Kohl's furloughing staff as it extends store closures
From CNN's Kate Trafecante

As a result, Kohl's will temporarily furlough store and store distribution center associates, as well as some corporate employees.

My daughter works at one of the distribution centers, there has been no talk of a furlough as of today. She works tomorrow so we shall see what happens.

Inside information, SIX of the infections in Marion County drove Cherriots bus. No driver keeps a set route forever, they rotate, and most have been floating daily as drivers get sick. Imagine the potential for aerosol on the city bus.
Between this and the thousands who went to the beaches last weekend we could have 10,000 cases by next monday.

I saw a report from China where One infected person on a long distance bus infected everybody on it. The six foot rule is pointless in a sealed environment with doors opening and CIRCULATING THE AIR. FURTHER it was seen the droplets went 14 feet from front to back of the bus. If all six were infected, worked multiple different shifts, different days etc you could end up with dozens, hundreds of cases maybe thousands when you add the other people who came in contact.

ioujc is not kidding about the area they live in. I LOVE MO, with a passion, but the description given is what it's like here...most in the small, very small towns, have no idea what's going on in the real world. And they don't care. Same in my area...there was a notice put out by Birx, I believe, that those in rural towns need to up their game before it's too late.

It isn't just SJW or snowflakes that think they can't get it and don't care...it's the rural areas where drugs are rampant and poor does even begin to describe how some live. Many extremely overweight, lots of health problems and that includes their kids. It's a real shame but when you try to suggest being more careful about touching things and hands, mouth, eyes, disinfecting...they look at you like: What? Why? I'm not too worried about it.

Annndddd....that's why we closed everything up over two weeks ago and if it takes another 2-4-6 or 8 weeks, or longer, we're all good. We are fighting a losing battle with some of these folk. All we can do is put them in God's hands.

Agree. We have a 'rants and raves' page on FB for our local area. I don't know how many times I've seen 'this is a free country, no one is going to tell me what I can or cannot do'. Totally do not "get it" and not about to. If I go out and drive by Walmart (which I haven't been in for over 2 weeks) the parking lot is full like it is Christmas. SMH.

I live in a very small county - 17,000 in the entire county. They are boasting that they have zero confirmed cases. Well, I know why! My neighbor got back from a trip to Cozumel Mexico 10 days ago. She got sick in Mexico with a very bad cough but no fever. She then flew from Mex, to Denver, stayed with family in Las Vegas, then Fresno Calif. After getting home she got worse and was gasping for air. She had a phone consultation with the doctor and he said it didn't sound like covid so just stay home. When she asked if she could be tested they told her that they only test if you are being admitted to the hospital!!!!! No test, no virus! sounds like China. She is recovered now but I bet she had it.

Dr. Vladimir Zelenko has now treated 699 coronavirus patients with 100% success using Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate, Zinc and Z-Pak [UPDATES]

Last Wednesday, we published the success story from Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, a board-certified family practitioner in New York, after he successfully treated 350 coronavirus patients with 100 percent success using a cocktail of drugs: hydroxychloroquine, in combination with azithromycin (Z-Pak), an antibiotic to treat secondary infections, and zinc sulfate. Dr. Zelenko said he saw the symptom of shortness of breath resolved within four to six hours after treatment.
Now, Dr. Zelenko provides updates on the treatment after he successfully treated 699 COVID-19 patients in New York. In an exclusive interview with former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, Dr. Vladmir Zelenko shares the results of his latest study, which showed that out of his 699 patients treated, zero patients died, zero patients intubated, and four hospitalizations.
Dr. Zelenko said the whole treatment costs only $20 over a period of 5 days with 100% success. He defines success as “Not to die.” Dr. Zelenko first posted his Facebook video message last week calling on President Trump to “advise the country that they should be taking this medication.”
There are many other success stories about hydroxychloroquine across the country. Last week, Dr. William Grace, an oncologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said they’ve not had a single death in their hospital because of hydroxychloroquine. “Thanks to hydroxychloroquine, we have not had a death in our hospital,’ Dr. Grace said.
Also, in a study conducted by the National Institute of Health (NIH) also confirmed some of Dr. Dr. Zelenko’s findings. The study by NIH showed that Zinc supplementation decreases the morbidity of lower respiratory tract infection in pediatric patients in the developing world. A second study also conducted by NIH titled: “In Vitro Antiviral Activity and Projection of Optimized Dosing Design of Hydroxychloroquine for the Treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2),” also showed hydroxychloroquine to be more potent in killing the virus off in vitro (in the test tube and not in the body).
Below is a video of his latest interview explaining the success of the treatment.

Of course this is somewhat contradicted by the differences in death reporting, if the patient has Corona and on a vent but is determined to have heart failure Germany not reporting as Corona death. China was reported by Chinese as putting pneumonia or other factor on death certificates to keep the number reported down.

Different countries have different ways of identifying the cause of death so even if every country followed to a tee the same death would statistically be reported different. Not sure there are not apples and oranges.

If numbers make you understand general risk and reinforce the world pandemic great. If you think there is some winner here, or the numbers can effectively compare countries then every country would need the same definitions and rules, they don’t.

Also wasn’t Germany only showing like 40ish Corona ICU a day ago? What’s the number today?

Here's a thought... how about we quit screwing around with engineering viruses, vaccines, dna and cloning.

God doesn't like it when we step on his toes.

God allowed us to unlock the secret of how He knit pure energy and matter together to create all things.
We could have reversed the process to provide an infinite source of energy for mankind.
Instead we used that knowledge to create bombs.

God allowed us to unlock the code of life, by which He knit nonliving proteins together to make living tissue.
We could have used the knowledge to reverse disease and genetic malfunctions.
Instead we use it to pervert and destroy His living creation.

No wonder the angel asks God in Revelation to "destroy those who destroy the earth."

De Blasio threatens to permanently close places of worship that resist shutdown order
by John Gage
| March 29, 2020 06:44 PM

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warned religious leaders that their places of worship could be shut down permanently if they did not follow the city's order to pause services during the coronavirus pandemic.
"A small number of religious communities, specific churches and specific synagogues, are unfortunately not paying attention to this guidance even though it’s so widespread," the New York Democrat said Friday at his daily press briefing.
"I want to say to all those who are preparing for the potential of religious services this weekend: If you go to your synagogue, if you go to your church and attempt to hold services after having been told so often not to, our enforcement agents will have no choice but to shut down those services," he added.
De Blasio said that continued resistance of authorities to close religious services could mean a permanent shutdown.
"If that does not happen, they will take additional action up to the point of fines and potentially closing the building permanently," he said.
The mayor issued a stay-at-home guidance this month, which includes fines and penalties for anyone in noncompliance. All nonessential businesses have been shut down in the city.
New York City has been the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States. So far, over 33,000 people have confirmed cases in the city, with nearly 700 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins.

'Better to die standing': a European strongman scoffs at coronavirus

March 31, 2020 — 6.16am

New York: The borders are open. People are still visiting their favourite cafes, and parks are full of families.
Seen as one of Europe's most restrictive countries, Belarus is taking a more laissez-faire approach to the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

"It's better to die standing than to live on your knees," said President Alexander Lukashenko, 65, laughing in an interview with the state-owned ONT TV channel after playing an ice hockey match on Saturday.

Coronavirus: Death toll in Europe rises

The death toll in Europe continues to rise amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Lukashenko, who's led the landlocked post-Soviet nation of 9.4 million people for more than quarter of a century, said playing sports, especially his favourite game of ice hockey, is the best medicine to fight the virus.

So far, he has resisted introducing widespread quarantines even as neighbouring countries such as Poland and Russia shut their borders and start lockdown measures to fend off the pandemic.

Officials have mostly been encouraging people, especially seniors, to stay home when possible and avoid unnecessary exposure to risks.

Belarus' Health Ministry said cases jumped to 152 on Monday, a 62 per cent increase from Friday.

No deaths have been officially reported. The country has about 2000 ventilators and 1500 respiratory apparatuses. At hospitals, coronavirus patients are separated to avoid large-scale infection of other patients and medical personnel.
Lukashenko called foreign politicians' economic measures a "psychosis" used to advance their own interests, from taking protesters off the streets to managing elections. He has warned companies, both state and private, against firing people.

"If any company, small or big, throws people out into the street, it will hardly be able to exist in Belarus," he said last week.

It is a theme he has pounded relentlessly in recent weeks, convinced that the unprecedented measures against the pandemic are designed to benefit some and harm others. On March 19, he slammed the border closures by his five neighbouring countries - as useless and "absolute and utter stupidity". He recommended people not only drink vodka, but also wash their hands in it to fight the virus. (In fact, vodka is not strong enough to kill the virus.)

Several other populist leaders have minimised the novel coronavirus, including US President Donald Trump, who initially called it a hoax. Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro called it a media fantasy and "a little flu", claiming that Brazilians could jump into sewers and not get sick.

Political analyst Artyom Schraibman, Minsk-based political analyst of the Carnegie Moscow Centre, said Lukashenko was more worried about an impending resulting economic crisis, than the virus itself.

"Civil society and opposition groups are very critical of the handling of this crisis," he said. "People look around them and see that all the other countries have resorted to a very different approach."

The World Health Organisation has endorsed the Belarus authorities' approach of testing, contact tracing and isolating COVID-19 cases and their contacts.

Batyr Berdyklychev, the WHO representative in Belarus, did not directly criticise Lukashenko's policies, but emphasised the global closures are a key part of the effort.

There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach," Berdyklychev said.

"Countries with small clusters should trace contacts, test suspected cases, isolate patients and guide people on the ways to protect themselves, thus limiting further spread," he said.

Fond du Lac metal structure company designs containment cubicle amid coronavirus pandemic

Rick Barrett, Fond du Lac ReporterPublished 4:32 p.m. CT March 25, 2020

FOND DU LAC - A Fond du Lac company that normally makes metal structures used in places like the Super Bowl Village and in aircraft factories has created a portable bio-containment cubicle for isolating possible COVID-19 patients during triage.
The unit uses a micron filtration system, and negative air pressure, to keep the virus contained.
“Epidemic containment is not something we ever thought we’d be forced into, but then again many … daily activities have changed so drastically,” said Patrick Santini, president and founder of ModTruss Inc.
The company worked with medical professionals to develop the quick set-up, quick changeover solution aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus in health-care settings.
Patients can be isolated in the temporary, sealed space to protect medical personnel during triage.
Hospitals are in short supply of negative-pressure rooms, which is where they would typically place someone who highly infectious, Santini said.
In less than four days, the company went from having a concept for a unit to a working prototype. It’s now in the testing phase.
“Hospitals want to know how fast we could deliver these and how many. We believe we could hit around 100 a day,” Santini said.
The portable units can be quickly assembled with no special skills required.
“It was an engineering challenge, and that is primarily what we are, an engineering company,” Santini said.
In addition to hospitals, the units could be useful in nursing homes, prisons and by emergency medical crews in triage.

Self-employed workers now eligible for unemployment benefits

KCRAUpdated: 7:26 AM PDT Mar 30, 2020
Emily Maher

For the first time, people who are self-employed will be eligible to receive unemployment benefits as part of the federal stimulus package.

“We want to touch and feel people,” said Missy O’Daniel, owner of Allure Salon & Spa in downtown Sacramento. “We want to make them feel beautiful, not only on the inside, but on the outside.”

O’Daniel is no stranger to the beauty industry. She’s owned her salon for more than two decades.

The coronavirus outbreak, however, has forced her to close the salon, for now.

“We can’t go weeks without having any income,” she said. “We’re used to getting paid daily, so this is going to greatly affect our industry.”

Most people working in the beauty industry are self-employed. Prior to the signing of the $2 trillion stimulus package, people who were self-employed couldn’t get unemployment benefits.

“Prior to COVID-19, being self-employed meant if you don’t work, you don’t make any money,” O’Daniel said.

Now, they can get some help. The bill creates a new program called Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. It provides unemployment benefits, for the first time, to people who are self-employed and can’t work because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It is still very, very vague,” O’Daniel said. “It’s very confusing, especially for all of us that have never had to apply.”

Economists believe the average worker who makes about $1,200 a week should be able to replace their lost wages.

Although O’Daniel said it’s a step in the right direction, she said it’s still unclear if it’ll be enough.

“You’re barely able to pay your bills when it’s good,” she said. “Imagine not making any income and there’s not any resources that are for you. It’s very, very tough for all of us.”

It’s unclear exactly how long it’ll take the IRS to start sending employment checks. Last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he expects most people will get their payments within the next three weeks.
