ALERT You will never in your life see an AR build this inexpensive

I remember back when the AWB was passed. ARs were going for roughly $450. I was within about $75 of being able to afford one. The day after the ban was passed, ARs were $800. The next day they were $1200. The next day they were all gone.

That’s how fast it can happen.

That's 2018 prices there! I bought two Blem uppers and lowers from them back in '18 at that same price. I actually could see a tool mark in one of the uppers so I sold that AR at enough of a profit to cover what I had paid in transfer fees and kept the other.

As functional as the M4 forgery carbines are I get all nostalgic over an old school M16A1 pattern rifle.

I built this last week, 20" flat top. It is a companion to my A2 carry handle version of the same. I used all of my A1 uppers for carbine builds.

I made the upper (billet), handguard and built it on a TB2K 80% anodized lower that I made. Since I used the above parts from my shop and bought the rest wholesale from a buddy who is a big dealer, I have around $200 total in it

Is it fair to say that the AR is mechanically superior to the Kalashnikov series?

It's interesting that AK is so much more expensive these days. I suppose this is because of modern materials and manufacturing techniques.

It depends on what mechanically superior means to who. Regarding accuracy, there is no comparison, the AR can be amazing. If you abuse your rifle, let it get full of crud and don't clean it all the while shooting crap ammo, the AK is your choice.

I have a couple of AK's in my safe, and several dozen AR's. I like them all and my AR's are all 100% reliable as are my AK's. If SHTF I will go to my AR15's first, because I like to hit what I am aiming at.

Remember it well. Actually Colt green labels hit almost 3K right after the crap went into effect. What really makes me sick is when the thing sunsetted. I was 5 minutes late calling on the Rogak imported 50:64 that went for $2150.

Sign up for del-ton's specials on their site. Recent deal was a 20 lightweight barrel complete a2 upper with BCG and CH 1/9 twist for $239 free shipping no sales t ax.

No cheap Chinese models flooding the market and driving down prices. Norinco did us all favors in that regard back in the day.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
One can always change the “pieces” out later. First, have the gun.
This. You can plan to, want to, hope to, etc., but if you don't HAVE when TSHTF, you're in deep kimchi.

A couple of years ago now (time flies) there was another good deal @ PSA on a couple of nice .223 Wylde 1:7 18" Uppers with BCG which I grabbed. Just looking now, those are $369.99, which is a nice chunk off what I paid. Oh well, I've got those in the office and have the parts to build them, so I'm happy. Right now, my most frequent AR style rifle that I shoot is my CMMG upper .22 M4. Runs good. Only issue is with the occasional mag that goes wonky. I have a couple I need to look closely at...

While it was new and we didn't run it for accuracy, one of the guys brought a Radical Arms AR-15. I was amazed at the quality of fit and finish. I have no idea how it will hold up.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. I've got the coin and my Birthday is coming up next week or so, I just don't know if it'll FIT in my gun safe. :shr:

Yes no, yes no, yes no, yes no,..........

Owner just talked to me.

He says he's been watching where I have been going online (he can do this - part of our "agreement") and he says he might pull a trigger on the AR15 PSA deals above.

Through PSA he's found an FFA "outlet" in the next town who will be "destination" for shipping. He says the guy is a single man shop, he's a retired disabled vet, and he meets all the requirement of the authorities. AND - Owner says he gets $25 for doing the paperwork, and keeping the form after the background check.

He uses the FBI for background - but has assured Owner that the FBI processes this only as a "check" - and no permanent records are kept - and in fact can't be kept by law.

Well, that's what he says.

He also has told Owner to get the "Heavyweight" barrel or the SoCom barrel. The lighter barrels don't stay straight and your grouping increases from 2" to over 4" once the lighter barrels "warp."

If someone wants to give me (well, him because he reads here) any thoughts on this?

My only comment might be - save money for ammunition.

Yunno. I think I give Owner a lot to do in his day. It must be a task for him to "monitor" a full time Internet history.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I only have one experience with PSA, but it was completely satisfactory. Many years ago, I bought one of the TB2K AR lowers and then stashed it in a corner and more or less forgot about it. Fast forward a couple of more years and I decided that I really needed to build a rifle with that lower.

PSA had one of their great sales on uppers and I bought one, as well as a parts kit. I had never built an AR previously and while I wasn't intimidated by the prospect of doing so, I'm all too familiar with Mr. Murphy and his awful law! In the event, the build went off flawlessly and I was extremely pleased with the quality of the upper and the parts kit.

I follow a number of gun boards and don't recall ever hearing of anyone having problems with PSA's products or customer service.

If anyone is considering building an AR, I recommend using PSA.

On TB every waking moment
I have owned several PSA factory builds or personal parts builds. Only issue ever was a misplaced ejector spring instead of a selector detent spring in a factory built lower. I swapped them out myself in a few minutes.

I agree with Doc ...
