Note that in prisons, even women STAFFERS do way more than do men employees. (!)

Women Commit a Shockingly High Percentage of Sex Crimes

Women prisoners were three times as likely to be sexually victimized by women inmates than were men inmates by other male inmates.

The Atlantic has an interesting report that seems to defy the conventional wisdom on sex crime and gender.

New academic research suggests that women commit a stunningly high percentage of sex crimes. Via the Atlantic:

Two years ago, Lara Stemple, Director of UCLA’s Health and Human Rights Law Project, came upon a statistic that surprised her: In incidents of sexual violence reported to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 38 percent of victims were men––a figure much higher than in prior surveys. Intrigued, she began to investigate: Was sexual violence against men more common than previously thought?

Some two years later, Stemple and her colleagues published a report titled “Sexual Victimization Perpetrated by Women: Federal Data Reveal Surprising Prevalence.” (Editor's Note: The study is available only by purchase.) It is based on data pooled and analyzed from the years 2010 to 2013, and it reveals a “surprisingly significant prevalence of female-perpetrated sexual victimization, mostly against men and occasionally against women.”

Among the findings (via the Atlantic):

Female perpetrators acting without male co-perpetrators were reported in 28 percent of rape or sexual assault incidents involving male victims and 4.1 percent of incidents with female victims.

Female perpetrator were reported in 34.7 percent of incidents with male victims and 4.2 percent of incidents with female victims.

Among adults who reported sexual contact with prison staff…80 percent reported only female perpetrators.

Women state prisoners were more than three times as likely to experience sexual victimization perpetrated by women inmates (13.7 percent) than were men to be victimized by other male inmates.

The figures presented are likely low. Researchers said there is a greater likelihood for female-perpetrated crimes to be under-reported because of the stigma attached to being victimized by a female perpetrator.

Several months ago, I published an article asking why so many female teachers suddenly seemed to be sleeping with their students. In particular, I asked why there seemed to be no good social science on why it was happening.

I was contacted by a couple of academics who read the article, both of whom also seemed puzzled by the absence of social science on this front. Well, it turns out we were not mistaken. Conor Friedersdorf, author of the Atlantic article, states:

To date, no existing clinical studies examine large numbers of female sexual perpetrators. As a result, we understand less than we might of a category of sexual perpetrator that, while not the most common, will still victimize many thousands each year.

Why not? Part of that answer can perhaps be found in the nature of the narrative itself. The idea of sexually aggressive women doesn’t fit our stereotypes, researchers of the study pointed out:

Stereotypes about women “include the notion that women are nurturing, submissive helpmates to men,” they write. “The idea that women can be sexually manipulative, dominant, and even violent runs counter to these stereotypes….”

The result is that “perpetration is downplayed among professionals in mental health, social work, public health, and law, with harmful results for male and female victims.”

This makes sense. I would only add to this thesis that perhaps the lack of attention to female sex crimes also stems from the fact that it does not neatly fit the popular narrative of women as an oppressed class. Nor does it reflect positively on the Sexual Revolution, the movement that liberated women from societal constraints on sexuality.

In any event, hopefully Stemple’s research garners some attention in academic circles. A sexual predator, after all, is a sexual predator, regardless of [sex]."

Said every good man at some point before his life-shredding fake-Christian-ex-wife-filed frivorce.

Seriously, with the frivorce, negligible premarital virginity, and cuckoldry rates where they are, who over the age of 14 really should be surprised by such findings now?

As a teacher in a Chinese university, I was shocked by the amount of Lesbain affairs going on among my students. Rare but for the men to be chasing other men.

Not as surprising, when you remember...

That men are almost entirely bimodal WRT being homosexual or not, while women tend considerably more to fall along a continuum. There is a "Lesbian Until Graduation" (LUGs) for women in college, but no equivalent for men. (They either get heterosex or do without.)

Neither here nor there.

I know this article is discussing prison settings but I can tell you out in the wild that these numbers are WAY higher than what's being reported here. The problem is men don't report and if and when they do report being sexually assaulted by a female they're often marginalized or outright mocked.

Boy oh boy are you wrong about that one! You need to get out more and meet some people, instead of reading just journals and your expert websites! Bisexuality is pretty much even amongst both sexes.

Perhaps not, Dennis...

I read somewhere truly forcible rape of a male typically involves at least three women (most in the crime photos I've seen are NOT at all attractive), and often involves injurious penetration of the male by objects and/or castration (which may or may not be limited just to the gonads, but can extend to the entire male genitalia), which is often not survived.

Still sound like an appealing prospect?

i believe All sex between guards and prisoners is legally rape. The prisoners are wards and cannot give consent.

That depends I know several men who were drugged by their female friends only to come to to her and her friends taking turns riding him... nine months later the demand for child support arrived via the courts. The one guy was gay.

No one is going to drug me.

As stated the female college coed before she woke up drugged and raped....

Date rape drugs have no taste and can be clandestinely dropped into a drink....

Another method being used is to use a stun gun to overpower persons for nefarious purposes....

Let me try again.

Stereotypes about women “include the notion that women are nurturing, submissive helpmates to men,” they write.

So many people assume... that women are nurturing, submissive helpmates to men.

In Army speak, to assume is to make an ASS out of U and ME. ASSUME.

I don't believe the issue is the stereotypes of women blind society to our willingness to commit this crime.

Most of it is probably the stereotypes we have of men.. Those ideas of males being ever ready and ever willing are still pervasive, and they still lead to a discounting and trivializing of the idea, let alone actual instances, of boundaries being breeched. But, of course, even dudes should have the right to say no.
