Do you have any recommendation for good wilderness first aid type books?

Assuming several hours to several days to definitive medical care?

Thanks,

Charles

I have to Boy Scout handbook, but that's probably not what you are looking for, what about the one called something like this: When there are no doctors.

Find your self a copy of the "Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook", dated June 2001. You can down load it online for free. Your going to need two - three reams of paper to print it out.:usfl:

Covers everything you need.

1. Get the Boy Scout First Aid Merit badge book
2. Take a CPR course, Adult Child Infant with Choking and AED
3. The 2001 Version of the SOF is a free down load, if you got the money order the 2008. I do not have a page by page comparison.
4. Understanding dehyrdration, diabetic emergencies, stroke, chest pain and respiratory emergenies is really important.... so any good EMT Basic textbook would be a good read for you.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is if you are dealing with internal injuries you need to evaculate your patient to a hospital so if you are in an austere or hostile environment that is really important since there is little we can do in the field, and transport delays may kill the patient. I would stay friends with your local search and rescue team.

boy scout hand book from the 50's
Very thick, very straight and from a time when the boy scouts, especially the eagles were encouraged in field craft
