TECH Who still produces proper big flashlights?

Goodness before greatness.
I grew up with those old style lanterns with the big sealed beam lamp, after my first Surefire I never looked back, for roadside or tractor side problems there are many small rechargeable lanterns that are way better than a flashlight for working, many have magnet bases. The new Harbor Freight rechargeable is very impressive I bought 3.

I have both of the Surefire headlamps. The larger one being a sealed rechargeable I’ve had since around 2012. It is in the garage in the fix basket awaiting exploratory probing.

Both headlamps have potentiometer style rotary switches for progressive illumination.

The smaller CR-123 illuminated Surefire is a better weight to clip-board illuminated task slayer. I’ve owned three until wifey discovered hands free illumination. Thankfully, stepson has no-thing in CR-123. That little battery w#•r3 would snatch em up. I hide and / or distribute the AA’s as it is.

I wish Surefire would make a headlamp with a single 18650. I prefer to support our team whenever possible.

Years ago I purchased an explosion proof old school incandescent bulb 9 VDC battery pack lamp-head at Mc Master Carr. Had to go online to find battery’s for it.

I still have a REI red plastic headlamp built 60’s style in a subcontracted solder garage shop from the mid-70’s with old lever contact switches and a single D incandescent bulb with spare behind the lenses. Old circuit stuff JIC… :hof::hof:

I thought my 700 lumen was a stanley, actually an Everstart 900 lumen. $26ish at walmart now. Rechargeable is so nice! Robot or human?

This one is a badboy too 2200 lumens, rechargeable, and can use for a backup battery & charge your cellphone in a pinch. cool! $55. Robot or human?

I third the headlamps! Especially the rechargeable ones! I got a 400 lumen that stays extra bright over an hour and pretty damn bright over 6, and "ok" way longer.

My headlamp has three individual lights; a “main” one (larger) in the center, and a smaller one on either side. Each of these lights has independent aiming. There are several light settings, from burn the wings off flies to a soft glow. I think I paid $50 about 8 years ago. Rechargeable.

My Bushnell has taken a beating and remains dependable. I do not know if they manufacture the v you want.

Streamlight makes 2 larger flashlights. Both led. Both rechargeable. One lasts 8 plus hours and the other about 5. Both run on a lead acid battery.
they make another led version.

they All are in the big style that you seek

Sounds interesting; DW gave mine to her sister so I'm in the market for a new one (two actually) what brand or model is yours?

Just a cheap ChiCom PoS. The brand doesn’t matter. It’s probably sold under a half dozen nameplates if it’s available at all.

I ended up getting a Streamlight Waypoint, which is a pistol-grip light with a foldout stand so it can be set down and used hands-free. I get the attraction of headlamps, but after that flat, I'm thinking about making sure that there's lots of light in case I need to change another flat at the side of the road; I want a big light everyone will see, rather than something small that only illuminates what I'm looking at.

The light I got can either use c-cells or plug into the 12v socket in the dash.

Actually you're wrong. The lantern battery contains 4 F cells, not D cells.

And while I love the big Maglight aka unlicensed billy club, I just last night had to change a tire in the dark after trying to avoid a deer carcass that had been turned into Ludicrous Gibs, and one of my rear tires picked up a chunk of bone.

The Streamlight pen torch I keep in the glove box was constantly going out despite having a good battery in it, and its light was inadequate anyway. I really missed having a nice big light with square sides so I could set it down and have it illuminate what I was doing without worrying about it falling over or rolling away.

ETA: I don't really care about whether the lamp is LED or filament. It's the housing design I care about. That, and the big lantern batteries can power a light for a looooong time, even more so if it's LED.

If you have 20v porter cable battery packs, this one is handy to have around.

ADD:
Ive had it for several years. Its good to use when working underneath a vehicle, because you can set it down and tilt the head to where you want the light.
