Head lamp. LED. There are very good ones out there.
I grew up with those old style lanterns with the big sealed beam lamp, after my first Surefire I never looked back, for roadside or tractor side problems there are many small rechargeable lanterns that are way better than a flashlight for working, many have magnet bases. The new Harbor Freight rechargeable is very impressive I bought 3.
Free's up your hands as well.Head lamp. LED. There are very good ones out there.
Didn't LED lower consumption sort of kill that 6V form factor?Have you ever opened a Duracell 6v battery?
Hint: it's got 4 D cells inside.
Do you want incandescent or LED?
Sounds interesting; DW gave mine to her sister so I'm in the market for a new one (two actually) what brand or model is yours? My headlamp has three individual lights; a “main” one (larger) in the center, and a smaller one on either side. Each of these lights has independent aiming. There are several light settings, from burn the wings off flies to a soft glow. I think I paid $50 about 8 years ago. Rechargeable.
Actually you're wrong. The lantern battery contains 4 F cells, not D cells.
And while I love the big Maglight aka unlicensed billy club, I just last night had to change a tire in the dark after trying to avoid a deer carcass that had been turned into Ludicrous Gibs, and one of my rear tires picked up a chunk of bone.
The Streamlight pen torch I keep in the glove box was constantly going out despite having a good battery in it, and its light was inadequate anyway. I really missed having a nice big light with square sides so I could set it down and have it illuminate what I was doing without worrying about it falling over or rolling away.
ETA: I don't really care about whether the lamp is LED or filament. It's the housing design I care about. That, and the big lantern batteries can power a light for a looooong time, even more so if it's LED.
