FOOD While Reading Produce Labels Have You Noticed??

:sht: I am concerned that our local produce now shows a sticker on it that says: USA/EU the number on the top is 4088 and it is on the lemons that I purchased this past week. I looked up why it should have EU on it instead of the actual place it was produced and then purchsed by me. The EU can be any one of 27 countries. They all have different requirements for growing food. You may want to look up the EU and tell me is I should worry, because I am.
Thanks very much. Those of you who are more scientifically inclined than I am...I worry about checmicals that other countries can use and still import them into our country for how many years???

I think it was someone here who posted years ago about growing source labels on those stickers, it was pretty informative but of course, I've forgotten what was said. Here's hoping they will post again so I can refresh my memory and give myself something else to forget. Again.

Well it does concern me because there are 27 countries involved besides the U.S.A. and they have different chemical laws. I checked out my other lemons (I plan on a special cheesecake for hubby) and they were all just USA. Thank GOD for that. I will be much more careful from now on. (Richard I couldn't find anything under the NAU related to food).

EU on the labels isn't European Union, it's french for United States(Etats Unis) and suggests that some of that particular label brand of fruit will be exported to french speaking Canada.

Oh THANK YOU!!! you have made me feel so much better!! I couldn't understand why we would import lemons in the first place but a lot of what we get here comes from Peru and Columbia. Weird, I know.

If you are worried about chemicals, don't buy ANY produce, no matter where it comes from, that starts with a 3 or 4 as even the USA uses pesticides on those produce.

If it starts with a 3 or 4, it has pesticides. Starts with an 8, it's GMO. If it starts with a 9, it is organic.

Here’s how I remember:

3 or 4 is a BORE

8 – I HATE

9 is FINE

I did some googling and found out that I was wrong on that original post. I've changed the post with a link and quote to the new data. Still not a problem it appears.

yes, its almost impossible for farms and orchards to make produce without using insecticides. There are so many bugs that attack fruits and vegetables. And people will not buy imperfect produce.

Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism, but it is all over the net too. While 3 or 4's "may" not use chemical pesticides, there is no way to know that they dont. They are conventionally grown and "most likely" do. 9's are organic and they do use pesticides, but natural ones, not man made chemicals.

there are orchards here that by and large don't spray BUT they do have those insect traps hanging in the trees and while the buggies can't get out of the traps they are still required to label the fruit as if it had been sprayed with an insecticide. Weird I know.
