Interesting.

Those look like kilo bars. There has been a big demand for the kilo bars in China for the past several years, to the point that a lot of former 'good delivery' (400 ounce, more or less) bars have been melted down and recast into kilo bars for that market.

The streets at this Chinese shopping mall have literally been paved with gold.

Bosses at an indoor mall in Yichang, Hubei province, have installed an astonishing $32 million worth of the precious metal underneath its floors.

More than 600 shiny yellow 24-carat bars, which each weigh 2.2 pounds, have been laid down and covered with a re-enforced glass pane.

Thousands of shoppers have reportedly lined up to use the extravagant walkway, as walking on gold is said to bring good luck.

Mall patrons are eager to walking on the bar, which is considered good luck.

The lavish footpath was created to mark the mall's 18th anniversary, Shanghaiist reports. It is also celebrating the country's "Golden Week" which starts on Oct. 1 and is the day when the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.

The gold will be removed when the festivities end Oct. 7, adds the BBC.
