…… What is a safe e-mail?

I researched free email providers for weeks before deciding on GMX.
Same here. I still have a couple of old free Netzero addresses I use for anything that may be likely to create spam. I have never had any issues with GMX. Used with Mozilla Thunderbird, you can do PGP encryption. If I am not mistaken, there is also an encryption option when you are doing email directly on their website also. I've used GMX for around ten years now.

Only problem with Protonmail is that their servers are all in Switzerland. If the undersea cables are sabotaged (as we are seeing suggested) and we lose internet with Europe then any sites dependent (ie 2nd factor authentication, password retrieval) on it will be out of luck. Of course, we may be having a number of other problems if that happens.

I had a very crazy, complicated, frustrating day that had nothing to do with my e-mail, a lot to do with getting my phone fixed, but also a whole lot of other stuff. And will be busy the next few days. So I'm going to look into all y'all have suggested as I can, but actually do it next week or so. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks again!

You can have the most secure email in the world, but as soon as you email anyone your security drops to the lowest common denominator.
