Who knows. The one and only time I visited ground zero was in 2005, June IIRC. The netting was still covering the Deutsche Bank building--If I have that right. There were still missing posters hanging up in various places. and a huge messy hole in the ground.
We were walking by the staircase when a white van screeched up to the curb. Some guys --dark skinned-- in silken robes, with symbols of some sort, jumped out. One carried a folding stool. Another quickly stepped up on the stool and began to condemn America and called for its demise, in the harshest terms. He then stepped down--they folded up and were back in the van and gone--in a flash. I stood there astonished.
I heard later that a Muslim group was planning to build a Mosque at ground zero.

I believe a mosque has been built nearby, but maybe it's not big or grandiose. And maybe they're saying it was a building "always" used as a mosque, which may be disinfo. It was sort of hushed up / censored in the press.
