I have no idea how we allowed this to happen. But happen it did.

Law has vanished like a dream. Politics, the process we use to avert armed combat among competing groups, has become pointless. Government, in the Constitutional sense, no longer exists.

Perhaps I'm telling you what you already know. All the same, I had to get it out.

There is no longer a justification for reposing one's trust in anyone who holds public office or seeks to occupy one. Power has set itself free of all constraints. If my surmises are accurate, we shall soon envy the serfs of medieval times. At least they expected to be poor and oppressed.

What, then, must we do? Just wait and hope for a convenient planetoid to happen by?

The banning of all things confederate had me pretty low, but the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday made it much, much worse. This is not helped by the fact that I have a militant homosexual niece who's going crazy with joy that "love now knows no boundaries."

Great. Have fun with that goat. Or the horse. Or the utility box. Or whatever.

Reading the dissenting opinion of the Supreme Court even made me sadder. At least someone who wears that robe understands what just happened.

In the majority's telling, this story is black-and-white: Hate your neighbor or come along with us. The truth is more complicated. It is hard to admit that one's political opponents are not monsters, especially in a struggle like this one, and the challenge in the end proves more than today's Court can handle. Too bad.

A reminder that disagreement over something so fundamental as marriage can still be politically legitimate would have been a fit task for what in earlier times was called the judicial temperament. We might have covered ourselves with honor today, by promising all sides of this debate that it was theirs to settle and that we would respect their resolution. We might have let the People decide.

But that the majority will not do. Some will rejoice in today's decision, and some will despair at it; that is the nature of a controversy that matters so much to so many. But the Court has cheated both sides, robbing the winners of an honest victory, and the losers of the peace that comes from a fair defeat.

We owed both of them better.

Understand well what this dissent is about: It is not about whether, in my judgment, the institution of marriage should be changed to include same-sex couples. It is instead about whether, in our democratic republic, that decision should rest with the people acting through their elected representatives, or with five lawyers who happen to hold commissions authorizing them to resolve legal disputes according to law
"Until the courts put a stop to it, public debate over same-sex marriage displayed American democracy at its best. But the Court ends this debate, in an opinion lacking even a thin veneer of law."

"Along the way, it rejects the idea—captured in our Declaration of Independence—that human dignity is innate and suggests instead that it comes from the Government. This distortion of our Constitution not only ignores the text, it inverts the relationship between the individual and the state in our Republic. I cannot agree with it."

"By imposing its own views on the entire country, the majority facilitates the marginalization of the many Americans who have traditional ideas. Recalling the harsh treatment of gays and lesbians in the past, some may think that turnabout is fair play. But if that sentiment prevails, the Nation will experience bitter and lasting wounds.

Even enthusiastic supporters of same-sex marriage should worry about the scope of the power that today's majority claims. Today's decision shows that decades of attempts to restrain this Court's abuse of its authority have failed. "

It happened because those of us who oppose all that happened sat with our head in our hands and did nothing. Our forefathers gave their lives for their principals but we did nothing just like I knew we would. We are a lazy bunch of I don't cares.

The federal government has declared the Constitution of these united States null & void. I feel I am no longer obliged to obey their mandates and will do whatever I can to undermine their authority.

the Bible tells us at the end of this age a satanicglobalguv will assume control

that could never have happened w/ the america i grew up in still around

our demise was inevitable as is the demise of the whole current world system

the love of many has grown cold

for me it proves the veracity of eschatological scripture

it is sad and exciting at the same time

this too shall pass

I don't agree with this, at all.

EVERY single candidate I've voted for in the last 12 years has lost. No exceptions.

We're powerless. That's part of what's so maddening.

Short of becoming anarchists, what is there for us to do?

This is not the worst ruling of the court by far. Citizens United, Eminent Domain, Abortion are just some examples.

It happened because voting does no good. Those who are perceived to be in power are an illusion foisted upon you.

Think of Dennis Hastert; do you think his proclivities were ever used on him to force a vote? Do you think most politicians have something in their closet that can be used to make them play ball?

And yes, most people do not care, and do not see the ramifications of these rulings.

You are powerless. You are in a small minority.

An observation from history (not ours):

God permitted evil kings in Israel whenever Israel turned their backs on Him. He gave them what they wanted and they paid the consequences. How are we any different?

The Next thing to happen to Israel in this cycle of judgement was God permitted other nations to come in and enslave them. That is not a happy scenario at all.

We either learn from history or are doomed to repeat it.

But our small minority will be survivors when the Deluge comes. A much greater percentage of us will survive than those who oppose us. And then we will fashion the future. We just have to wait for the winnowing to occur. As one of my sig lines says, "The longer you can hold out, the better your chances".

Giskard---Not sure of the source, but, "There are those who say to God, 'Thy will be done", and then there are those to whom God says, 'Fine, have it your way'."

The latter group never ends well.

What I know

I don't know much but what I do know is that the President is already figured out and we as people think we are voting them in but really are not. It's all smoke and mirrors. My thoughts are someday although I think Jesus will come, they will say people could not handle their own technology especially the computerized age. The more we become this way the less we become dependent on God as a nation. We are doomed because God is taken away from our world just like the Bible says.

The following comes to mind after reading the comments in this thread. Our choices are fewer and fewer as time goes on.

The next thing on the agenda is the Biblical tribulation and Armageddon. The best is yet to come, but we must endure through the worst to get there...

Sort of like a woman having to go through the hell of childbirth for the joy of getting her baby here?

Horrific....but worth it........... (been there, done that 3 times).............

Which is why I think Jesus compared it to "Labor pains"........

The mooring lines of the Ship of State have been loosed. We are foundering in the stormy ocean with little hope.

I said little hope, not no hope.

So many have to grow a back bone and say NO to this regime and their followers.

It can be done.

But it will be hell on earth doing it.

I personally can't believe there are that many stupid people in America so what does that leave us with?

A system that is being manipulated by the same elite that are controlling the media.

I Agree, it is all an illusion

America is the victim of a massive, well-orchestrated conspiracy that has been running for centuries and infiltrated America as soon as the USA was founded.

While Americans went about their business of earning a living and taking care of business, this satanic conspiracy was working day and night to subvert literally every aspect of American life.

Satan's most intense opposition is still to come. But God is still in control. We have weapons with which to fight Satan. The weapons are spiritual and are actually much simpler than most people realize. Our faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Bible are the most important of those weapons. By obeying God and staying faithful to Him, we glorify God and hinder Satan and his minions. Guns may turn out to be useful but our most potent weapons are spiritual.

People have a right to defend themselves with guns and many here will do just that. I don't think I'll be taking that route, but who knows. I do know that at best my time on earth is short. I'm not a citizen of this world, but of the Kingdom of God. My main focus is on God, not on anything on earth. What I want to hold on to until I die is my faith, not some flag or gun, no disrespect meant.

With all the dog-lovers we have on the forum, one of the pooches is bound to pull back the curtain someday.

Emphasis, mine.

So, what is disrespectful? You've well articulated what thoughtful, intelligent Christians believe!

My Bible teacher frequently notes that most people on earth end up refusing to believe in Jesus. So, technically there are more people in Satan's camp than in God's.

However, it is only a tiny, well-connected minority that make up Satan's Executive Staff.

Thanks for your encouraging thoughts.

What I was referring to was the declaration by some people that they won't give in to an enemy but will die clutching their gun.
