I buy the frozen vegetables that we eat. Frankly I've always used them in soups. I just dehydrated brocolli, caulaflower and whole green beans. (sorry my spelling is so awful). And I just put brussel sprouts and mixed vegetables in the dehydrator. The brussel sprouts will probably go in soups too along with the mixed vegetables. With the brussel sprouts I re hydrate and chop up because Dh would not eat them otherwise if they were whole. And come to think of it I may powder the brussel sprouts to add to other things too.

When I dehydrated the green onion tops I also put a cover over each tray because they will blow off the trays, at least in my dehydrator (I have have and excalibur). I have sheets that I put on the trays for messy things like tomatoes, so I just lay one over each tray of something that will blow off the trays.

Thank you, Judy. Cary won't eat broccoli, cauliflower, or Brussel sprouts. He wouldn't touch any type of soup that had those in it. I think I'll just stick with green onions and apples for the time being, until I learn more about dehydrating. My dehydrator is a Weston. I got it when I got my pressure canner, but have no idea if it's a good brand or not. It's the only brand they had.

If you want to get some nutrition from those vegetables in him, dehydrate them and make them into powder to add to things, he won't know the difference. DH has an eagle eye about things green and he never knows.

I used to refill our bottled water (refilled gallon juice containers from our artesian well) every fall. It still tasted fine, but I always felt better about knowing it was fresh.

So, you don't advise me to do this? I won't do it if it's not safe. I'll use the jugs for something else.

I refill the gallon water bottles with our city water. It's always good, I rotate about once a year usually water the garden. Ths year I'm keeping it for a longer time. I would love some 5 gallon water bottles.

Still fighting the bugs and mice. One of the totes wasn't fully closed, and mice got into the tote and chewed through a pouch of gluten free flour, getting poop IN the pouch. So, I went through stuff, rearranged, reboxed.

I found out that I only have 1 5gal bucket of sugar, not 2. Seeing the shortages of sugar tells me that I have to fix that. It shows on the wm app they have plain sugar, but it has been a few trips since the last time I've seen it. I will check again tonight.

We are still canning purple hulls and black eyed peas but it is a good problem to have! Juicing muscadines for jelly and just for juice which I will can. I feel sort of quiet in my spirit after being uneasy for several weeks. I have black walnuts that will be falling soon. Anyone with ideas to make shelling easier?!

I feel that quiet too, now that you mentioned it. Read that and realized I've had it all day.

On another note, not really prepping, I sent my sister in AK some green tomatoes and an eggplant. They made it through the mail just fine, and I'm just happy about it.

Would someone answer a question for me? I have several 3 liter jugs of Ozarka water I bought at the grocery store. They were out of cases of bottles. When they are empty, can I refill with chlorinated tap water and store them? If so, how long will they keep? Thanks.

good chance that "Ozarka" water was drained out of a city water tower somewhere just like you'll be doing - put a year's date on them to re-new the water treat or just wait until you need to drink it ....

water doesn't "go bad" >>> you either contaminate it by using the wrong containers or it loses the initial chem treat and allows nature to take it back .....
