Good morning!
Harvested a new to me green called Tatsoi, it is going gangbusters. Used it in a stirfry and it was very good. It can be used at all stages of growth.
We are going to lay out the space for my greenhouse today.
I am looking at buying the big Jackery. We have the money and I would like to have it before winter.

Y'all were so busy at the end of last week!

Wanderlore, I am glad that your son is headed back toward home!

I started canning the pork and beans first this morning - put them in 7 quart jars and got them loaded in to the All American canner and got it started; then fixed up 9 pints of ham and bean soup and loaded them into the ancient Presto that I got for a wedding present more years ago that I am willing to admit to right now  The ham and bean soup had been prepped, jars loaded in the canner, up to pressure and already been canning for 20 minutes in the Presto before the All American had exhausted the air out and I could put the weight on it. I love that it is a good heavy canner and doesn't require gaskets, but it sure does take a lot more time to get to the canning part of the process than my old Presto and Mirro canners.

Which reminds me that I probably should order new gaskets and overpressure plugs for all the canners I have on hand, just in case I need to use them all. I got in to the habit of buying them at auctions if they were in good shape, then had a friend who was also an auction shopper give me a few, then I gave some away to my cousins who wanted to learn to can, then Hubby moved some up to the shed attic, so I'm not sure how many I actually have. I know that I have at least 5 that are operational at this time.

I go back in to work tonight; then have to stay over to be Covid tested - our hospital is still saying weekly testing or vax; not a mandate to vax as yet. I got a call on Friday reminding me that I was scheduled for Monday. I'm going to try to sneak out of the unit at 0545 so I can be early in the line; then go back to finish up.

Dang, I think I've been trying to type out this post for about 3 hours now; and this is as far as I've gotten with all of the interruptions here at home! I think I'm going to give up - need to shower and make sure work bag is ready to go before I head to bed for a nap.

You folks all take care out there - stay safe (and sane - Lord knows it ain't easy sometimes...!)

I'm getting ready for the week:
- cooked a meatloaf and several pork chops (these will be reheated)
- washed clothing and the rest of the sheets and pillow cases
- planned lunches for this week and bagged up crackers (and such) in snack bags, canned fruit in small plastic containers
- got gas and quickly cleaned the interior of my car
- got in a 20 minute walk on the "hilly" trail (need to walk another 30 minutes today)

I need to deep clean the kitchen and main bathroom, which may or may not happen today. It's a lot cooler but still on the muggy side.

We have absolutely nothing planned for the upcoming week, except to take Mom to see her doctor on Thursday. I'm waiting on the rest of my orders to come in. I should get 2 more shipments from Sam's, and my Keystone order hasn't arrived, yet.

Our weather through Wednesday will be rain. The rest of the week, temps drop into the mid 70's for our highs, and upper 40's to low 50's for lows. Time to bring out the sweaters, LOL!

Still no signs or symptoms of Covid.

We were supposed to get rain for several days but it must have gone to SB's house. Overall the temps will be a bit cooler, in the 80's. The mosquitos are awful.

We have such blessings that DH is feeling better, thank you Jesus.

Tomorrow is commodity day. I still have stuff to put away from last month. I also have my list for Walmart, I may do that today, maybe. Instead of getting flats of things, I have a list of foods to just get two of, some of which is replacing and some to add.

I'm working on drying a half bushel of apples and making apple peel jelly. I've taken some beef out of the freezer to can. (I need more freezer space. ) We are interested in a rural house, but would have to use Hughes Net or Verizon hot spot. I'm not sure how trustworthy that is. I work from home and need decent internet. Really liked the area. I have some things to get in mylar bags too for longer term storage. That's about it I guess.

Looking forward to cooler temps.

Hope it's a good week ( without tsunamis ).

I'll be glad to get rid of Hughes Net, myself. Every time it rains hard, or a jet liner flies overhead, we lose the satellite signal. We're going to be getting fiber optics our way in a few months.

My mom always made apple peel jelly. She dried the meat of the apples, too.

Amazon: you might look at Viasat. That's what we have in the house.
It's 60$ and it takes a super storm with down spouts to drop off line.
In my cabin I use my straight talk phone and have no issues at all no matter the weather. It's on the Verizon system.
Just idea for you.

Son joined us for the hike even though he was filthy and worn out from night before. Kids had a good time.
No more group hikes till next spring. Fair then hunting season.

Pantry is packed to the gills except some toilet paper and paper towels.
Other son and I going shopping in the morning for his place.
God is good as Judy says. We are richly blessed!
God bless you all, family

Verizon has a new router we just setup at the office is is faster than the ISP we had and unlimited. we had 3 or 4 phones that could upgrade so we got the router instead. Verizon is the only cell service that works in our area.

Verizon hot spot worked well when DH worked from home. We never had any issues with it.

Right now, we're not paying too much/month for Hughes Net, but we also have to have Direct TV, which is a huge bill/month. With both, rain fade is a big issue, so our internet and tv services are hit and miss, depending on the weather and other interferences. Once we get the fiber optics, both bills will be combined under their plan, and the monthly bill will be cheaper than what we're paying now for both. Plus, We'll be able to watch as many videos as we want. We can't, right now, because of low bandwidth. Only if they are very short, but by the time Cary and I both watch several short videos, our limited bandwidth is gone. That's why we can't watch videos posted on the forum.

What about Starlink?

Thanks for all the replies! Starlink should be in the area "mid to late 2021". So it will be an option. I don't mind paying more for excellent service. I found out a coworker lives in the general area. She is using Verizon which she says is good enough to allow her to work from home. I'm going to talk to Verizon about speeds for that area. It would also be 45 min commute for hubs. Lots to think and pray about.

so I picked up my commodities, they were slim pickings for sure, did get a fan and some bottled water though. Grateful for what ever comes my way.

Went to Dollar Tree and replinished a few things, none of our sinus medication to be had, lots of empty spaces. Then on to Walmart, they had no head cabbage and non of the stuff that DH likes to drink. Their sandwich meat isle was pretty bare, but the part was like the last time I went, which was 15 days ago. I forgot to check on the bottled water situation, I was very tired. Even the bread section was spaced out. I did get the 2-each of the canned foods I had on my list. I got two loaves of 88 cents a piece bread. I wonder how they can make it that cheap. And I remembered to get a box of frozen waffles for DH. There were no frozen pie shells.

I think my days of multiple store shopping days are numbered. Maybe it will be easier when the weather cools down.

I was at Walmart and dollar tree today. Stuff and paint and a load for son's place.
I noticed dollar tree was really looking bare too.
Walmart was ok but holes here and there.
Did get couple cases of canning jars and the one box of lids that were there. He's paying for all this. Has to work a lot so this is fine. I enjoy working by myself for the most part.

Oh. My back. I'm staying over at son's to see how much I can get done. Hubs came over and did a bunch of little fix stuff that helped a lot. Daughter running things at home. There's a huge double lazy boy to sleep in.

My son wanted a dark bedroom so I'm painting it midnight blue. It's very nice and will be dark and peaceful.
Did I say I hate taping around trim, windows, doors, ceiling. It's slow going.
I got the tiny room almost done. He plans to use that as a walk in closet.
Other bedroom as a study. There a 2nd bathroom too. He and I plan to redo the other rooms but just doing these two for now so he can move in.

Not much prepping going on here. I did sell the last 35 bales of hay in the barn. It is raining this morning so we might get to cut a little more hay in a couple of weeks.

The early morning hours on the 13th we got a call that hubby's dad passed away. Hubby had been to see him on the 11th, but his dad did not know him. He has had dementia for years, but his wife had kept him at home till a few weeks ago. He had just become harder to deal with and would not let his wife rest. She needed some peace. Hubby's mom passed early this morning. She was in hospice for cancer. The kids all worked together and kept her at home till the end. At one point last week she said it was time to go to hospice house, but they were full. She hated being a burden to her kids. But not a one of us felt she was a burden. We were glad to be able to take care of her. Her mind was clear until near the end. There will be a double service for them.

Now we have the task of clearing out the house. The kids own it together and they all agree to sell it. There is just a lot of stuff. The furniture and some stuff is already assigned homes with family. My mother in law over saw that before she got bad. She has it all written in a note book. But there is a lot of little things. It will take time. One of the grandkids is thinking about buying the house. It needs some updates, but is a solid house with 2 acres.

I want to go to a couple of stores in the next day or 2. I want to get several cans of good tick spray to have on hand. I have a couple. But I want next years on the shelf too. We are running low on a couple of items in the pantry. For the last couple of weeks we had trouble remembering what day of the week it was so keeping up with shopping was hit and miss. Mostly miss.

I have been feeding my bees. They did not have enough stored yet. I have to check on them more regularly now that things will settle down some. The last time I looked they were filling frames and making good progress.

I still have 5 of the 7 chicks that my hen hatched. One never did well and died the first few days. Another just disappeared. But they had gotten out of a hole in the wire so I assume a critter got it. I worked on the pen and don't think the babies can get out anymore.

When you get a minute, look at LAB's recent post in the Bomb Shelter: it may or may not have some implications regarding your grocery lists, depending on how well stocked up you are.

Ya know, I think I've seen this bomb shelter mentioned while I was lurking... what is it? TIA

On the prep note, I think we'll get at least 14 quarts of homemade chicken broth canned up today. Nothing goes to waste.

I forgot an item.

I stopped at our small town feed store looking for the tick repellent I want. There was a note on the door that said due to fast rising prices, the price that rings up at the register is the correct price. :shkr: :poop:

Remember growing up and hearing about things like that in OTHER country's? What happened to us.

Stopped by Sams on my way back in from vacation and picked up a few things. The specific things I was looking for were not in stock, though the store itself was "stocked". I got a 10 lb roll of ground chuck which I canned in pints and just packed away after washing the outside of the jars. That will probably be about it for the week.

My Keystone meat shipments arrived today. We've got a good stock now, so I'm done ordering from them for a while. I also got another Sam's shipment. Still one to go on that order. It's 2 large plastic jugs of dehydrated onions I'm still waiting on.

Given the weird weather year we've had here in central CO, I've been cutting and splitting extra firewood, little at a time. My woodstove is pretty inefficient so it'd only be a SHTF option, but I never rule out the possibilities.

We heat with wood only, and Cary will have 9 cords by the time he is finished with the load he is working on now. He's also cutting some of it into smaller logs to use in my wood stove. 9 cords will do us about 3 years under normal use.

Getting a quote this week from our tree guy for our over 40 year old maple tree. The squirrels have created a condo on one side big enough for 2 families. Sheesh.
Going to get a rick or 2 of wood to have on hand this year.
Needing to make an attitude adjustment concerning cooking. I used to enjoy cooking but I'm kinda done. But, everything is so expensive I need to suck it up and get it done. Sigh. First world problems.
