Had to leave for work early to stop to pick up donuts for the crew on the way in to work yesterday, and was too tired to do much more than just read when I got home last night - must be getting old - four 12 hour (13+) shifts in 5 days and running amok on the fifth one just wore me out!

I did stop on the way home from work last night as CVS had a sale on Boost protein drink - buy one, get one half off; buy 4, get a $10 Extra Care Buck. My total was right at $30; then I used 4 - $3/1 coupons and a $5 off $15 purchase scanner coupon to bring my total out of pocket to $14 and change. I ran in to my Uncle in town last week and he asked if I had any protein drinks I could spare for a guy he knows through the VFW who has cancer and a feeding tube, so I'd taken him a couple of 6 packs; then met him to drop off these 4 six packs today on my way home from aqua aerobics.

There are a few more okay sales in the paper; mostly on soup - but I am waiting for more decent coupons to come out. And for elves to come in and whip my pantries in to order....

Didn't get a whole lot done once I got home from the pool today - it was chilly in the house so once the necessary housework was done, I snuggled up under a throw on the couch to read for a bit. Woke up to Hubby's snores from the recliner  so decided it was probably lunch time. After we finished off most of the leftovers, Hubby made up a batch of homemade chicken and noodles and let them simmer a bit while I got stuff packed in the orange storage tote to take to town tomorrow afternoon for grandson's school Hallowe'en party, and then Trick or Treat at daughter's that evening - wonder if a mini President Trump will show up on the doorstep? I'll fill his bucket if he does! lol: I do have insider info that there will be a short Black Knight Batman and a slightly taller Minecraft creeper running amok in town... and I imagine that they will be our first beggers as they run from the back door to the front :)

Tonight will just be spent quietly at home; I'll probably finish my book and Hubby might do some reloading for his IDPA match on Saturday (if there isn't rain in the forecast.) Tomorrow morning will be aqua aerobics with the neighbor ladies, then laundry and maybe a bit of cleaning before I head to town. I have Wednesday off as well, and hope to do some cleaning and sneaky outgrown toy removal in the grandkids bedrooms here at the farm.

Back to work on Thursday and Friday; then another football game on Saturday - this will likely be a tougher one and is an hour and a half drive to sit in the rain to watch football. Wonder where I can find a purple tarp.....

Not sure if the boys will come home with me Saturday night or not; if not, I may pick them up to take them to the pool on Sunday to splash around.

Time for supper.... Take care all; watch out for pranksters this week!

Got a good deal at the farmers market--last one of the season, and we've had a couple of good freezes. Someone had a trailer full of mostly frosted pumpkins, and mixed in, something that looked like a red Hubbard. Neither of the fellows selling knew what they were, even though they did claim to have grown them--reckoned they might be warty pumpkins gone wrong, or something like that. I found six that hadn't been frozen, and they let me have them for 2 bucks apiece. They're all in excess of 20 pounds, and the one I'm cooking smells pretty good.
I think they're a golden Hubbard--I suspect the sellers didn't grow them though.

I've been working a ton of overtime, though not by choice. I plan on leaving this job by the end of the year, so I guess it is a good thing to build up the savings account. I spent a nice chunk of change at PetsMart this morning catching up on the cat food supply. Four cats can eat us out of house and home. I also hit Sams for a few items. Have some vacation coming up--two quick cruises just to get away and get some peace and quiet. Things have been way too stressful here lately.

Mid-week grocery store ads came out; local chain has store brand veggies on sale 4/$1; I'm going to pick up a few cases to donate to the church based food bank. They are also offering chicken leg quarters for 29 cents/lb in 10# bags. Wish I could talk Hubby into eating them, but will pick up one bag and vac seal them in sets of 2 to roast when I'm fixing something to take in my lunch etc...

Was able to pick up 4 more 6pks of Boost protein drink for just a bit over $8 out of pocket by taking advantage of the buy one/get one 50% off, a $4 off $20 Boost purchase scanner coupon, 4 - $1.50/1 manufacturer's coupons, and the $10 Extra Care Buck I received for purchasing Boost earlier in the week; I also received another $10 ECB for purchasing 4 cartons since I was informed I could do the deal twice. I will drop them off with my Uncle on Monday when I go to aqua aerobics so he can take them to the VFW.

Managed to get away from the unit long enough to run to HR yesterday to get some help with our adjunct insurance company; the one that handles our dental/vision insurance and Benny card/flex spending account. Most of our health care is through the hospital, so I rarely have to do anything more than pay a co-pay; then whatever our deductible doesn't cover. I had overage last year on the Benny card, plus I deposit a small amount to it per paycheck, and we should have had a set amount go in due to meeting our 'Wellness' program qualifications, but somehow my Benny card ran out of $$. Oops - they didn't roll over the overage, and Hubby's 'Wellness' bonus somehow didn't get added. HR also helped me get back online into the program - after I got kicked out 3 times for the wrong user name/password and got tired of being on hold forever - so now I can keep a closer eye on those people :)

Got a nice surprise when the electric bill came yesterday - it had gone down by almost half. We'd bought a Kill-a-Watt meter and used it on appliances, etc... when the bill took a jump, but couldn't find what was causing the issue - we'd had to install a new water heater and had added a couple of other electrical things about the time the jump started, so they were the first suspects. Turns out that someone had flipped a breaker in the machine shed; the one that ran the old well pump. That breaker got taped down and will be disconnected by my cousin who is down bow hunting this weekend and who just happens to be an electrician :)

Usually I get completely crabby when I see Christmas decor this early in the season, but I was smiling when I saw the tree being put up in our work cafeteria on Thursday - our various local charities all get together to do the holiday help thing, with the different businesses and organizations being asked to provide certain items - last year these combined organizations pulled together to help 861 families/2051 kids in our 7 county (mostly rural) area. The employees at the hospital where I work are tasked with providing pajamas and underwear, the nearby state college students/staff provide blankets, other organizations provide socks, diapers, books, toys, and food, etc... When I snuck downstairs for ice cream later in the day, I pulled 6 tags (item/size) from the tree - one each for pj's and underwear in each of my grandkid's sizes, and will take them shopping this weekend to purchase the items on the tags - I think having them pick out items in their size makes the act of giving a little more personal/understandable for them.

One of our social workers is a volunteer for the combined organizations, and when I pulled the tags I'd taken off the tree out of my lab coat pocket in order to try to dig out an ink pen that actually had ink in it (nurses - I swear the stuff evaporates! You with me on this?!), she saw them and the staff in the nurse's station ended up getting an impromptu intro on the program. Then, during shift change, I was telling another co-worker about the 4/$1 canned veggie sale..... and later that evening I got a text telling me that our unit is now hosting a 'Green Bean Drive' for the program as well! Since I won't be back to work until the day before the sale ends, I told them they could take a couple of cases worth of money from the candy bag in my locker toward the drive if one of them would be willing to purchase the green beans for me (I keep a gift type bag of emergency chocolate in my locker; co-workers are kind enough to toss in $ toward the purchase of more if they take candy out). This morning, they sent me a text photo of the emesis bag donation container they had set up in the unit (sorry; we're medical people; we have a sick sense of humor :eyeroll: ) - it was already half full of dollar bills :) Another co-worker agreed to take the donations to the store to purchase said green beans, and to deliver them to the drop off location.

I've said it before and I will say it again - I am so truly blessed! My co-workers, employer, and other community members remind me that there are good people out there who are willing to help others. Knowing that sure does help keep me sane when I read the news :)

Guess I'd better run downstairs and toss my football game sweatshirt in the dryer - it's a chilly, misty/drizzly day out there; hope Hubby isn't too uncomfortable at his IDPA match! The rain is supposed to fade before the football game at 1pm, but I'm tossing a box of clear plastic trash bags in the van just in case - I've worn one more than once for a poncho, and it didn't embarrass me a bit

Take care all; wishing you a safe and happy weekend!

Picked up the pork from the new locker - and... going back to the old. One package of lard out of a 350+ lb pig??? He didn't save the head or the organ meats. I am pretty disappointed. It's all put away in the freezer for now - will pressure can the ham hocks and neck bones when I have a break from school.

Ran by Krogers (King Soopers, here) for some of their specials - spent $99.95 for 36 lbs of butter, 15 lbs of pasta, and some supplements. Land o lakes butter is usually over $5 a lb - got it for $2. Didn't find anything at Big Lots, but the local thrift was having 50% off - got 3 sets of sheets and a coffee grinder for my herbs for $25.

Great deal on the butter, Moldy! I am keeping an eye out for it to go on sale here, but the best I've seen so far is 2/$5. And I have to agree that one pkg of lard from a 350# hog is ridiculous! Do you make head cheese from the head (when you get it?) I remember my Grandma D boiling down a hogs head in a pot in the side yard - and popping the eyes out with a spoon - ewwww!! Or at least it was ewwww to an 8 year old
