Good Morning, All!!

It's a beautiful Sunday morning here, crisp and cool - and with enough moisture that the dust from the bean harvest has settled so that allergies shouldn't be much of a problem! First day back to work after vacation, so I will have to try to get my brain back into work mode - hope I'm successful as I'm already hoping to be able to slip outside on my lunch break to get in a walk

I'm not moving very fast yet, so this will be a short note - I need to stop at the store on my way to work to pick up the Sunday papers and donuts for the crew; will also snag two more 12 ct pkg of tp, and 3 more bags of Hallowe'en candy while I'm there. I will stop on the way home to scan my CVS card, but don't have my head wrapped around the sales as yet so don't know that I'll do any shopping there :)

Guess I'd better get ready for work - sure am glad I can wear scrubs; gonna be hard enough to convince my body to wear shoes and socks instead of sandals - would hate to think of how it would be if I had to wear dress clothes as well

Take care all; hope you enjoy your Sunday!

Just scanned the drug store ads, nothing of interest. I'd have to drive 30 miles to get a Sunday paper, so no newspaper ads. I figured out how many rolls of toilet paper we need, since one roll lasts at least 5 days, that works out to 73 rolls for a year. I'm good for about 4 years, but I do restock a couple of times a year. We use scott 1000 sheets.

a good majority of the stores - especially grocery stores - no longer go Sunday to Saturday for their sales ... I have an entire web link tab devoted to the retail store ads - start checking for the new week on Tuesdays & Wednesdays ....

Our regional chain grocery store, Aldi, Save-a-Lot, and a small local grocery store all run Wednesday through Tuesday sales - kinda nice that I can compare their sales to two weeks worth of the national chains sales before deciding where to buy :)

Nothing much in the Save-a-Lot ad; regional chain has a 10/$10 sale on a few items that I can use - Knorr pasta or rice sides, Progresso and Healthy Choice soups, 24 oz bottles of store brand ketchup (use when I can pork 'n beans), Eckrich hot dogs (to make beanie-weenies with those home canned pork 'n beans lol!). They also have arm roast for $2.99/lb so I will take a look at those and if they look decent, will pick up a half dozen to can. Aldi is advertising a chocolate donut flavor coffee - I'm going to snag one bag tomorrow, check it out, and if it's good, will stock up as it's a special flavor and the price is the same as the Gevalia on sale + coupon.

My right heel had been achy for a couple of days, was REALLY sore Tuesday at work, and I didn't even make it a quarter mile during this morning's walk before I turned around and went back home - it felt like a really bad stone bruise, with a side dish of tendonitis from walking funny while trying to avoid putting a lot of weight on my heel :p Called daughter and luckily she had a free half hour at 3 pm, so I went over and had her work on it. She used her thumbs to find the problem - 40+ years of working on my feet for 12+ hours at a stretch lol! Some hand work, some machine work, a hard, ridged rubber foot roller from her bag of tricks to take home with me and orders to go to the Evil Empire for gel inserts for my nearly new work shoes (same brand I've worn for the past 6 years; wondering about their quality going downhill :( ) I walked out of her house favoring my foot a bit (and got yelled at for it!) but by the time I drove to EE, I was able to walk across the parking lot without pain! Found the gel inserts, and the young lady at the register pulled off a $2 coupon I hadn't even noticed!! I had two rebate Visa cards with a little over $3 left on each, so used those along with a couple of bucks from my pocket to cover the cost.

Decided to pop into the thrift store while I was in town; found a nice red/white/blue print shirt to wear to the polls on Election day, a heavy cream colored zip front sweater, a striped top, a cute skirt for grandaughter - none of which appeared to have been worn; and an untouched book of >200 word search puzzles (25 cents!) which I will give to our rec therapist at work - she will copy them for our patients. Total out of pocket: $7.

Home then, and since the temp had dropped about 12* during my time in town, I looked through the 'use soon' tub in the pantry to see if anything struck my fancy. Found a chicken flavored noodle side dish packet and decided I'd add half a pint jar of home canned chicken to it, then serve it with some veggies on the side. I started fixing it and decided that chicken noodle soup sounded better, so added a quart of chicken broth, the half jar of home canned chicken, half a bag of frozen mixed veggies; then thickened it with a bit of sour cream toward the end of the cooking time. Buttered and toasted a couple of slices of bread, then cut them into cubes to float on top of the soup. Also cut a couple of apples in 8ths and tossed them in a skillet with a bit of water, butter, cinnamon and sugar and let them simmer while we ate our soup, had them with a dab of vanilla bean ice cream on top - now all I have to worry about is not falling asleep during the debate...

Class is going great, and I"m learning so much. The two hour drive each way is about to kill me though!

Was in a big town today and went to Krogers. I got 8 cans of progresso soups for 99 cents each, had to buy 8 to get that price, Got 4 bottles of my favorite dish detergent, Palmolive Oxy for 1.69, had to by 4 to get that price. I like their organic ketsup, no corn syrup in it, not on sale, but bought 4 bottles for 1.79. Hve to keep DH supplied, he does not go through it all that fast though, this will last over a year, since I never eat ketsup.

Yesterday I went to Goodwill in the town nearest me that has one and got several blouses for 2.49/half price for the color tag. All of their bottoms were on sale for 1.99 each, picked up at least 4 that fit well.

A productive day here. I was running errands and went to an area where they have moved a bunch of stores that used to line this main shopping street. It's now off behind the street in a new, much bigger shopping area. Anyway, they have an Aldi's, first in our town, and today was grand opening day! I stopped in to take a look around and pick up a few things (including those sinful chocolate bars people have mentioned) and I made 50 cents returning carts lol.

Then to Sam's where I decided to turn a stack of gift cards into a restock of the medicine cabinet. My better half is a nurse and really wants me to clean out the first aid cabinet (a full size office supply cabinet). The order is that for meds, nothing over a year out of date can stay. So, this is what I got:

600 ct generic Benadryl-5.48
180 ct. Halls sugar free cough drops-6.87
400 ct. generic immodium-5.98
2 pk 91% isopropyl alcohol-3.94
2 pk hydrogen peroxide-1.76
400 ct generic naproxen (Aleve)-12.98
2 pk childrens tylenol-8.98
500 ct generic 500 mg acetomenaphin (tylenol)-12.98
730 ct low strength aspirin-4.78

I already have a recent big bottle of Excedrin and another of Aleve. Cheap insurance is my thinking. I've also stocked up on decongestant from Dollar Tree, though I can't currently find any. I have a couple of hundred, so I should be good for a bit. I stocked up on cold meds last year, so we should be good there. Now I just have to go through and pull the old stuff to be dumped.

I also bought some outfits for my grandchildren for Christmas.

Wow, Prudentwatcher, those are great prices. No Aldi in Louisiana that I know of, the closest is somewhere in Texas, too far for me to grocery shop.

Last night I went through my latest haul from goodwill. I didn't try anything on in the store. Four pair of caprees fit nicely and several tops. Only three or four that are too small (I'm always hoping to lose weight). Now I have a lot of nice things for the fall, and a few long sleeve tops.

could be seeing an Aldi in LA as it spreads out from Houston - TX and CA (LA area) is the current new concentrations - both areas have approx 30 stores and they don't slow down until it hits 100+ stores ....

kind of strange - they seem to avoiding LA and MS for some reason

Popped into CVS after work to pick up 'scripts; Hubby texted that we needed Ibuprofen - which I could hardly believe, but he said we were out in the med lock-up. CVS had assorted bottles of their brand on sale buy one get one free, so I did a little math and discovered that the 1000 count bottles were the best deal at $22.99 for one bottle - $2/$8 pain med scanner coupon; and get one bottle free, making it just over a penny per tablet. The prices ranged up from that penny per tablet up to almost 7 cents per tablet - for the same med, just in different size containers

Ugh, Renee - Math is hard!!

Just got in from my last class. I've spent the week driving 2 hours each way to a class on herbal chemistry. It was fascinating. Taught by a woman who is brilliant, and very passionate about herbs. I learned a lot. DH asked me the biggest thing I learned - I told him the depth of my ignorance! Working tomorrow, and oldest 2 DDs are coming to visit. They will be here till Monday. I"m tired and excited at the same time.

That's why we have calculators on our phones, Moldy  Actually, dividing the $20.97 by 2000 wasn't difficulty - 2/2 = 1 and and the 097/100 = less than 1, so a little less than 1.1 cent.

Your class sounds like it was wonderful!! Does your herbal chemistry instructor have a textbook available for purchase?

No grandkids as yet for the weekend - although that can (and likely will) change on a moments notice! - and it's a beautiful day outside, so I am going to head out in a bit and work on getting the yard cleaned up for the winter. Hubby has to work tonight so much of it will be working with hand tools to avoid waking him, but I think I will mow the yard one last time before the snow flies. There are a couple of familiar pickup trucks parked by the machine shed so I'm pretty sure I have bow hunters out in the woods - need to print out the farm map and see if I can catch them before they leave to have them mark their stands for me. Handy to have before I go walking in the woods :)
