Thanks, All, for your prayers. We haven't got the results of the scan, yet. It might take a few days.

Cary is allergic to iodine, so he had to take a couple of Benadryl, before the scan, since they were using contrast. He didn't break out in hives, but the contrast made him feel really bad. So, we went on to Sam's, but he didn't feel like going anywhere else. It wasn't a big deal. We'll just do the other shopping the next time we're in big town. He has an appointment with his primary care doctor the 16th, next Wednesday.

I made a mistake while at Sam's. They had the jugs of praline pecans (which I absolutely love). They're new. I guess they're a seasonal item. So, I bought 3 jugs, LOL. Got home, and I was anxious to try them. Gosh! They were so hard, I had to suck on them for a while just so I could bite into them! The glaze was totally different than any pralines I've ever eaten. I've never had "hard as a rock" pralines before. They tasted ok, but are hard for me to eat, because all my molars are missing or broken. I might just give the other 2 jugs away.
Take them back to Sam's next time you go. They'll take them back and you can get something you can eat!

Be sure and take the one you opened back too and tell them its disgusting.

I'm wondering if it was a bad batch that was cooked too long. Nobody in their right mind would try to eat these. Cary even had a hard time biting into them, and he has great teeth. Pralines should be soft and buttery, like an actual lightly toasted pecan.

I just finished cooking out more ground beef and chopping greens to fill my canner with, tomorrow. I'm at 72 pints of ground beef, now. Pretty good for the first time ever using a pressure canner, and I'm loving it. It's been going steady, since May. Once I finish with all the ground beef, I'll start replacing the store bought canned beans and peas, as I use them up, with my own home canned versions. I'm buying up dry beans and peas for that purpose and holding them in the freezer for the time being. I've got more quart canning jars than I do pints, so I'm continuing to buy pint jars and extra lids each time I go to Walmart. For the time being, I'm using the quart jars to seal up dry foods such as pasta, rice, macaroni, Rice a Roni, Hamburger Helper, Betty Crocker Au Gratin and Scalloped boxed potatoes, etc. The hand warmers to seal the jars are working out great, BTW.

Prayers up for all needing them and I’m in need of some myself, please and thank you.

SB~We bought those pecans before and although they weren’t soft they weren’t especially hard either, could be you did get some that were over processed or hadn’t been stored properly. I’d take them all back for a refund including the open one.

Yeah, I'm taking them back. If they give me a hard time, I'll be taking back the one that is open, and tell them to try and eat one. These things almost need to be hit with a hammer to break them. I'm not even kidding, either. Cary tried to eat another one, today, and told me that they were going back to the store.

Adding you to my prayers.

I've so far diced up 10 of those butternut squash. Selected out 6 good looking ones to give to a friend. I had 2 jackolantern and about a half dozen softball pumpkins go bad already, but none of the nice pumpkins or squash have. I like soup. That is my plan. Lots of soup.
Probably will can up some chunks, though. Tonight I cooked bnut squash with country sausage and onions in butter. Hubby had 2 bowls. Win.

The corn sheller is late. It should have been here yesterday. Instead, it is saying Saturday, but we won't be in town. Hubby fixed the Jeep, so we are going out to our BOL, dependent on if son is better from his cold. I haven't been out to the BOL since forever and a day it feels. If son is still sick, though, I will be here to receive and play with my new toyol.

It's been a full morning, already at a bit after 9 am. I've got the canner going, doing laundry, and swept and mopped the floors. I'm just now taking a break to rest a bit. I brought out more hand warmers, getting ready to seal up more jars of Rice-a-Roni of different flavors. Cary has been out in his workshop sharpening all of his chainsaw blades.

He has to be scanned 2 more times. Once a year for 2 more years. The farther out it goes, without the cancer returning, the less likely it is for it to reoccur, according to his urologist. His surgery was 2 1/2 yrs. ago, so we're at the halfway point.

Waiting for it to cool off a bit and then will go out and water my winter garden.....

This morning, I checked, and have a BUNCH of "Freckles lettuce going, some spinach, some broccoli plants and a very few radishes. I used all old seed, except for the Freckles lettuce ....it is pretty weak and spindly, so, I don't think saving seeds for very long is effective. These were very old seeds though, some for 2015.....they were stored in the freezer in metal cans after being sealed in plastic bags, but still, iffy and pitiful plants!!

I plan to transplant the plants and put under plastic storage totes (clear ones) as I have heard you can actually grow greens all winter long. We will see!!!

They work just as well as O2 absorbers to seal jars of dry foods. I like using them, since I can open one at a time, instead of opening a whole pack of O2 absorbers, and trying to keep them from losing their punch if I don't use the whole package. Plus, I have a lot of hand warmers that need to be used, before they expire.

The way I use them is to empty the contents I want to seal into a storage bag (don't close up the bag), put that down in the jar, then add the cut out instructions, and seasoning packet, if you have one, to the jar, and add the activated hand warmer. Seal up the jar, and within a few minutes the jar will seal. The reason I put the contents in a plastic storage bag is, because I don't want the hand warmer next to the food.

It looks like we are headed for pretty cold weather starting tomorrow night. Days for the next week after that will be in the mid forties and nights in mid to low 20's!!! JOY!!JOY.....not!!

Got to get my water stored tomorrow because being in the RV, I won't t have water unless I get it in the warmer daytime when the water hoses are unfrozen. I generally store 50 gallons and then refill as I am able, with there being surely a day where it is possible to use the water at least once a month. If not, then I have to go purchase water, or go to the Community Water system I am on and fill up there at the freeze proof outlet. My water system is $20 a month and is untreated water from a well next to the lake I live beside. No clorine, no chemicals at all. Just pure, precious water that is rated 99% pure. AND it tastes GOOD!!

I have missed all of you this week! Sounds like you are all staying busy and productive. Moldy, glad to hear you are faring better this time with surgery. And SB thrilled to hear Cary had a good report. WE are tightening up...meaning cleaning out and reorganizing. After spending many hours everyday to try to clean out at hubby's old home place and get my BIL in a clean orderly home, I have realized that I don't want to leave all my stuff unorganized for anyone else to have to deal with! Worked the polls for election day. For some reason I find that to be exhausting. We also are keeping caught up anticipating excitement at any moment. When I was a child and would hear about End Times I would wonder why people just kept going about their usual business. I sort of understand it better now. Life just doesn't go on hold. My BIL just got a bad diagnosis that will require many trips to Big Town as Sherree says. Trips that I wish we wouldn't have to make. God will be merciful to us I am sure!

More of the same this way - keeping up with laundry and dishes and working my budget and meal plans using up some things we already have on hand.
Hubby and I both have started going through some things to get rid of and are working on getting our spaces better organized. It feels good to do this.
Slow and steady.

We went to Kroger yesterday. We only bought their sale items with the exception of some heavy cream and baby formula. They had some good sales. I wanted to get the pint of blueberries for .99 cents. But they were from Peru, so I skipped them.

The equipment rental place is supposed to deliver a track hoe to us for the weekend. Hubby has some things he wants to work on. Our son can help him and hopefully get a deer while he is here. There is a cold front moving in and appears to be staying. We have a chance of snow flurries Tuesday night.

I am not ready with everything done outside yet. I have a few potatoes to dig yet. And some peppers to pick. There won't be many of either of them. But even a small mess of new potatoes is worth digging them.

I have not been feeling as well as I should. It makes getting stuff done go slow. I have started taking my L-tyrosine again for my thyroid. It helps, but I don't sleep as well when I take it. I have been awake since 3:30. But I do have more energy even after loosing sleep.

It is supposed to SNOW here tonight!!

From 80 degree temps most of last week (actually high 70's, which did hit 80 most days) to SNOW tonight!!
This is BIZARRE!!

SIGNS???

I was VERY depressed yesterday.....about the election. But realizing GOD is still in control and spending time talking with HIM throughout the day yesterday helped a lot. Still don't like what is happening, cannot believe people are so slow to comprehend what is happening, but have to realize they are only looking at network news. I haven't had TV for over 30 years, except for the time the "evils" lived here ....7 years and even then, I never watched it, except for an occasional movie. The VAST MAJORITY of them do NOT have access to TB2k, which is sad indeed. Feeling more resolved today and not as desolate in the face of it all.

It's raining this morning, which is much needed. The bottom is getting ready to fall out of our temps, too. I think our winter will be arriving, soon. 40's and 50's for highs and 20's and 30's for the lows for the foreseeable future.

I'm doing more laundry this morning. I'll be hanging them inside to dry. With the wood heater going, it won't take it long to dry.

Cary wants me to make Southern chicken and cornbread dressing with giblet gravy as my contribution to our Thanksgiving meal. It's been so long, since I've made it, I thought I would make a practice batch tonight for our supper. I can't remember a time when my family didn't have chicken and dressing for Thanksgiving, until recently, when I had to take over cooking the whole meal for our small group. Other than Cary, myself, and oldest DS, no one will eat it, so I haven't made it. It's about time I make something for the meal that we've always enjoyed. Southern tradition. DDIL can bring her organic turkey.

I generally avoided foreign produce as well, but after moving here and getting a freeze dryer, I haven't been so selective. The local company that supplies produce to the restaurants and hotels here sometimes gets killer deals. A few times last year and once this year (so far, I hope there will be more but not planning on it) they got blueberries from Peru. Last year they were $10, this year $20, for twelve 18-oz containers. Man, they were so, so good. Not a single smushed or moldy berry, and usually one stem or less per carton. And they were huge. And they freeze dried so well.

Been busy canning ground beef... have some sausage to can... yesterday I put rice in one quart jars..and vacuum sealed...finished drying the bread for Thanksgiving dressing...I have three gallon jars full of bread..I will make tons of dressing and then seal most in meal size packages and freeze to use with chicken through out the coming year..I also use the heels and leftover pieces of loaf bread to make my bread crumbs...some plain... some with Italian seasoning...then vacuum seal in quart jars.....huge savings..saw small package of cubed stuffing bread for $4.50 at Food Lion..would take 8 or 9 packages of their bread to fill my jars you do the math...

we will turn cold Saturday night so will pick the last of the butter beans....and green beans..and cook for sides

.rather than buying hams to freeze...I have started getting the center slices and putting in a gallon vacuum bag and sealing again...they will freeze flat and I can get a lot of them in a small space in the freezer...each one will make a very large pot of bean soup...which will feed us several times..with corn bread or biscuits on the side..they will make very inexpensive meals in the long run.

We splurged and got 2 steaks for $20.00...but I only finished about 1/2 of mine and dh saved a good size piece of his..I will make a good size pot of beef veggie soup which will feed us at least 3 more meals each....so when I average it out..we will only spend about $6.00 per meal or $3.00 each per meal... figuring the additional things to make the soup...beats the cost of a fast food hamburger by a country mile.

Praying for all here....it looks more every day like the Republicans will win the House and maybe even the Senate...the vote counters are counting slowly to demoralize us... don't let them... remember that God is in charge.....

It's not southern chicken. It's a southern dish called chicken and dressing. It's made with cornbread and cooked chicken.
LOL, I was confused. I lived in New Orleans most of my adult life and my idea of cooking is different. In New Orleans that is called Soul Food, which I knew to be good ole fashioned cooking, but it is rarely found there. I had to go to black restaurants to find it. I'm not even sure that cornbread is that common in NO. French bread is everywhere that I remember. Like I've said before that I was shocked when I moved back to the woods that people still ate white bread.

I think it is considered "soul" food and is a traditional dish of the South for Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are several different recipes for making it, but I just use my mom and grandmother's recipe. I can't ever remember a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal without it. Of course, there was always a roasted turkey and ham, too, but everyone doesn't like turkey, including me. When my whole clan got together, there was one big turkey, one whole ham, and several large pans of chicken and dressing, plus a gallon of giblet gravy to spoon over it, LOL!

The side tables that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago came. One is perfect, but the little cart didn't work in the space where I wanted to put it. so I ordered something a little different than then one that worked for the other side of my chair. Its due to be delivered today.

I also ordered the things that go under the electric burners for my older electric stove. The ones that I have now are beyond disgusting, even though I do wash them. Oops, the are called drip pans. The new ones are black. I'd been looking for them at walmart in the store and they have not had the configuration I need, three small and one large.

I also ordered a dick and jane type simple directions for crocheting. Last winter I really wanted to crochet a shawl, triangle style but I just could not wrap my mind around how to do it, its been quite a while since I crocheted anything. Knitting was always my go to, so I tried that and it just didn't work out. So when the book comes I'll rip out the knitting and start over. Something to do while I'm watching old tv shows instead of playing solitare on my phone.

I also ordered a new potato peeler, I've go to do something with the potatoes we have before they go bad. I have not given up on canning the potatoes.

I forgot to mention, the little baby goat lost almost ALL of his fur, because my Doxie "loved on him" so much!!! He was almost naked....and PINK, for the past 10-12 days or so, but thank goodness, his fur is starting to grow back in.....and instead of being solid white now, he has a light tan stripe running down his back, and a small brown spot on his side. Surprises never stop!!

DH got his second deer this evening and it was raining. His tractor had a flat yesterday so he had to take his truck. Its muddy out that way so he could only drive so far without the possibility of getting stuck, which is a nightmare. He came back to the house to get me to help him drag the deer to the truck. It wasn't a huge deer, but it had no spots, so it was old enough to shoot. Many people around here will shoot the small ones with spots (which is illegal) because they are so tender. Again, I said a prayer of thanks for the deer's sacrifice for food for us. I really don't like killing them but I believe that God gave them to us for food, good healthy food. so I am greatful.

One the one hand I'd rather be uninformed and buy my meat at the grocery, but alas I am informed. God is good all the time.

We have a bit of snow on this morning. I was up a little after midnight this morning and it was snowing like crazy. At that time it was 33 degrees so probably some of it melted off. I am NOT ready for this kind of weather (mentally, at least).
We had another day yesterday warm and tropical. High humidity. Today they are calling for temps up to 70. I think a cold front is coming through soon though. Crazy weather.
