It's the season for it, Prudentwatcher - I spent the first two of my three days off mostly holding down the couch, having been blessed by youngest grandson with whatever preschool plague is going around at the moment. Gotta love those little ones, they are so sharing
Yesterday was a rough day; we had to have our dog euthanized. Poor old girl was at least 15 years old so she had a long time with us. It seems strange to be without a dog; I think this might be the only time in my life that I have been. Hubby is adamant that we will not be getting another one - and he is likely right to say so as our work schedules would make training a new pup (pups, if I had my way!) difficult. That said, the last time I actually went out and deliberately acquired a pet was in 1983, so.... All it takes is for one neighbor to tell another neighbor and that neighbor's neighbor to have a litter of pups and POOF! I have a puppy (or two) appear on my porch LOL - or at least that's the way it seems to happen hereabouts!
It had cooled off yesterday, and since Hubby and I were both a bit downhearted, it seemed like a good day to have a warm, filling soup for lunch, so I made this Cheesy Chicken Veggie soup:
1 quart home canned chicken broth
1 pint home canned chicken
1 bag frozen mixed veggies (I need to get back to Ruler Foods (Kroger brand) for more of these veggies - there are okra and lima beans in their mix!)(and potatoes!)
1 heaping tablespoon dried onions
1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
1 tablespoon dried celery leaves
1 bay leaf
Once the veggies were tender, I added in a can of cream of chicken soup, then chunked up about 1/5 of a pound bar of Velveeta cheese and put it in to melt. I'd have preferred to use shredded cheddar, but I needed to rotate the Velveeta, so in it went!
The neighbor lady called around 5 pm; she'd had an emotionally rough day as well and had tried to work it off doing outside chores but still had a lot of nervous energy to burn, so she picked me up and we went to town for supper. I'm pretty sure I was asleep shortly after 8:30 pm - which would explain my waking up at 0230 this morning
Hey - I'm getting the laundry caught up, so it's not all bad; right? (Which I'm sure I won't be thinking as I drag my fanny in the door after work this evening...)
And speaking of laundry, I need to go toss that load of blankets in the dryer - I unhooked the turnbuckles on the clotheslines and pulled the lines all to the far end so they wouldn't strangle my Buddy when he brought me a load of wood chip mulch on Monday to put down under my clothesline; then left them off until I have time to get another load of mulch to finish it up - hopefully, that will happen this weekend!
Take care all; don't let all the crazies out there get you down!
