Prep Genrl Weekly Prep Thread: March 3 ~ 9, 2019

I swear that elves - mean ones! - have been coming in and messing with my pantry shelves; I can't find the things I look for. We were OUT of chili beans. How could we possibly be out? (Besides the 'No one but me checks things off the inventory sheets' ongoing issue, that is?) Luckily, the chain grocery store in our work town had a sale, so I asked Hubby to stop by after work. I asked for 2 cases; he brought home 6 cans - and, of course, the sale ended yesterday. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for another sale.

The new grocery ads didn't have anything much useful in them, either; so spare cash this week is being put back for other prep items instead - garden plants, plus those of the loud and shiny variety :)

The weather has been so bad that it's hard to get anything done. Did get the firewood and kerosene replenished. Made a Walmart run and they really raised their prices in 2 weeks. At least they had most of what I wanted this time, though there were a lot of empty shelves.

I went out of town for 5 days alone, just to recharge my batteries. It helped a lot. I was mentally and emotionally exhausted. Came back feeling much better.

Sales have been terrible around here as usual. Coupons are almost non-existent. I did get 4 6-packs of toilet paper last week (they were BOGO). We have found a new tea bag we like (Tetley's British Tea) so I have been buying a box every time I go to the store. I have about 8 or 9 boxes in reserve now, plus one at work. I will continue to get more until I get to 16 or so boxes, as that would cover a daily cup of tea for both of us for over a year.

I have had problems getting some of my prescription meds. One had a big recall and one they just can't seem to get. Thankfully none of them are absolutely necessary and I do have a backup supply, but it is troubling that half of my meds are hard to get.

I've been in PT for frozen shoulder since October (weekly). Doc says I won't need surgery (YAY!!!) because I have almost full movement back and very little pain, so that is a relief. I will have to continue with the exercises at home on a daily basis, but that is not a problem as it hurts more if I don't do the stretches.

if you're not doing it already - you can shift gears from just saving $$$$ thru retail coupons - Facebook has become a mix of a little bit of everything on the community websites - lots of local websites dedicated to "buy, sell, trade or giveaway" - around here it's almost 100% advertising now for garage/estate/rummage/church sales - all kinds of private food enterprises - lots of stuff for free to haul away ....

might be a new avenue for you ....

Too busy to do much other than read on here. March is really bad, April and May should be better - and after I graduate in May, I won't know what to do with myself! Free time, no 80+ mile trips one=way to school at least twice a week..... whatever will I do? Keep prepping, y'all. I think we're gonna need it.

Hoping the next few months fly by for you, Moldy; and that you get to spend some time relaxing once you are done!

And I agree with you on the "I think we're gonna need it."
