Good Morning, All!! It's a beautiful cool morning here; so nice after weeks of temps in the 90's so I have been hosing down the front porch while enjoying the weather and the wildlife - for some reason, there has been a rabbit population explosion in this area! Had to chase a small bunny off the porch to get to the door the other evening  Don't know if it is because I planted the yard with white clover and have a plethora of places for them to hide or what, but the older grandson should be able to go rabbit hunting without going too far afield (he's already anxiously awaiting squirrel season.)

Plans for today include heading to town to pick up some canning jars a friend of daughter's is selling; I will pass them on to my cousins who canned 80 quarts of green beans last weekend and have more coming on. I have a few groceries to pick up while I'm in town as well. Once home, I need to hoe and then water the gardens; and I also have to catch a nap as I was wide away from midnight to 5 am for some silly reason.

We have some sadness in the family this week as daughter's paternal grandmother passed away yesterday at the age of 76. I will go to the visitation to pay my respects, then bring the boys home with me; and will stay with the youngest one during the funeral. Daughter has taken so many hits to her work schedule the past few weeks with multiple trips to the hospital, so I will also be taking both boys to their Thursday eye appointments so that she can move clients as needed r/t the funeral arrangements. Reckon my odd work schedule this week is a blessing...

Off to go seach out boxes to put jars in...

Take care all; have a safe and productive week!

Picked up 460 assorted jars at daughter's friend's rummage sale - I had the back of the truck full of boxes and totes of jars - woo hoo!! Daughter sat and visited - and helped her friend with the rummage sale by posting items from the sale on a local sale site and also on E-Bay - while I sorted all of the jars into boxes and totes by size and regular or wide mouth, then loaded them into the bed of the pickup in rows by type so they would be easier to deal with once home.

I have 6+ dozen wide mouth quarts sorted out to go to the cousins; and am waiting for a text back as to whether they want any other sizes (I keep all the name brand regular mouth pints and 24 oz freezer jars - stingy, I am  ) I obtained 24 assorted size blue jars in the mix - including one of the fairly rare 13's - so contacted my co-worker - slash - jar connection who was very pleased with the news, and who is going to bring me some more canning jars in trade. Then the beekeeper stopped by to drop off a quart of honey; I sent him off with two dozen no-name pint jars in return - I reckon everyone will end up happy from this deal! I guess if ya gotta have a collecting habit, canning jars aren't such a bad one

I also got about 50 of the glass Ball brand lids; think I will keep them and look around for some rubber rings to have for just in case. I have some re-usable lids/rings but was not all that impressed with them, but I guess it beats nothing at all if I run out of the others...

My daughter's co-worker just gave her an embroidered kitchen towel that has two ball jars on it and says "Grab your balls, it's canning season." Daughter says it's too cute to use.

My name is Moldy, and I also have a canning jar addiction. I brought brownies from Colorado to the meeting!! Bwahahaha!!

I had Monday off and spent it running errands. DH made a deal on a post pounder that hooks to the skidsteer. I see a lot of fencing in my future. He also talked to the neighbor about firewood the neighbor wants to get rid of. I"m guessing our firewood is covered for this year. He also got some new hardware and twine we really needed for free.

Mayhaps. I am an herbalist, you know!!

Spent this week spraying thistle and chopping thistle, going to the laundromat, working on the garden, and getting entrance exams taken care of. A friend is coming out tomorrow to help me set up an LLC, then Sunday will be spent butchering chickens. Hoping to get the local kid to help.

Well, Moldy....I was thinking I wasn't quite to the point of addiction yet, but if yer gonna serve brownies I could maybe think on it a bit more

Hope your butchering goes quickly tomorrow!

Just got in from mowing a bit ago, hopped in the shower to wash off the dust, then came back upstairs to find clouds, thunder and wind where there'd been blazing sun and not even a whisper of a breeze when I parked the mower. Watched a few dust devils take off south across the field - the heat has sure generated a lot of dust! Sure could use a rain, so I'm not complaining a bit! I hurried and got the hummingbird feeders filled; now I'm settled in to read a bit, have some lunch, and hopefully enjoy a good rain shower. No grandkids so far this weekend - think daughter is giving me a break as I've had them on every one of my days off recently, and will be keeping them for 16 days straight while she is out of the country later this month. I think Hubby and I will see if we can remember how to go out on a date - one that doesn't include a fast food, pizza, or chicken strip dinner; and then go listen to a local bluegrass band. I'm planning a nap here in a bit (running on about 3-4 hours of sleep a night lately and need a bit of a catch up) but will have to get energetic after that and fix a snack to carry in where the band is playing - I'm thinking maybe lemon bars. I've been longing for some good old, down home gospel music, so it will be well worth the effort.
