Just getting the thread started before I head in to work this week :) Had a busy end of the week, and the computer kept eating my posts (some evil fiend turned on the touch pad again while I was away overnight!) (only took me a few hours to figure THAT out lol!)

Hubby mentioned he thinks we need a .22/.410 - any recommendations? I prefer a wood stock and since it's my turn to buy, I get to choose :)

Dang, I'm full of smileys today for someone who's headed in to work; I'd better get headed that direction before I use 'em all up

Take care all; have a blessed Sunday!

Why? - a .410 is a useless weapon for prepping - a single shot .410 is really useless - paying extra for a combo gun is even worse - any prepper has better use for $300+ .... if wanting cheap - buy a cheap 12g and a .22cal bolt action or auto ....

We put up several qt.s of applesauce and rhubarb. I don't know much about the guns mentioned above :) good luck.

Picked up some free pieces of tempered glass this am. Eventually it will part of a greenhouse. The man giving it away was very nice, they are cleaning out a late relative's house. I mentioned if there was anything else he wanted to get rid of - and he pointed me to a woodpile with 3-4 cords of cut and mostly split firewood! I had taken a jar of honey as a thank-you - he was very happy with it. Now I just need to recruit some help. The man said most people don't want it because they have to walk to the back yard to get it. I just shook my head - I can do that! It's easier than cutting, splitting, and hauling (which I would have to do at home!).

This is my last week before school starts, and I'm sure my posting will becoming much more sparse.

He said he wants it for squirrels :shr: .22's, we have a plenty of; and aren't wanting in the 12 ga catagory.

REnee- I"m working on your idea of a labor pool! DH is talking to some of the neighbor's kids (14 and 17) for doing some fence. I"m talking to a co-worker about his son (11) for helping with the firewood - Co-worker said he'd help provide labor for lunch and some steaks - I can do that! DH is happy because he probably wont' have time to cut wood this year, and that should get us thru winter with the other we've got. So - let's see, that labor pool might last another 6 years..... and I have a great friend who's son is 4.... gotta plan ahead you know!

Got a few cukes from the garden -it needs weeding bad. Maybe I can borrow the 11 year old on Friday, too.....

that wood is a sweet score!.....my dh can't cut wood at all now..........we have a bit left over but a really cold snap winter would eat it up.............oh well

Has been really hot here last week or so heat advisory most every day so my cukes are pretty much done which doesn't really hurt my feelings as I have put up enough pickles and pickle relish to last for years. Tomatoes are starting to come on good. Put in 4 jars spag sauce and did a batch of ketchup yesterday.

Moldy, wishing you the best in your studies! Good score on the firewood!

Busy week so far - though Hubby and I did take a little time for ourselves on Monday since he was off work. I went to aqua aerobics with the girls, then headed up to the orchard afterwards for another bushel of peaches while he went down to his range and practiced with a new handgun he got for IDPA. I spent the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon working up two canner loads of peaches plus 2 batches of peach jam - I used those $5 off $25 coupons I got from Dollar General a week ago Saturday to stock up on another 28 boxes of lids this past Saturday - they are disappearing into the pantry pretty fast! Hubby wanted to go pick up some reloading supplies in the afternoon, so I cleaned up and rode along with him. We hit Wal-Mart for some things for his work lunches this next month - $60; not as bad as it could have been, I guess. A quick stop at the local ice cream joint afterwards, and we were headed home. I spent part of the evening down in the storeroom looking for some of my old nursing school books - I've spent too many years on the psych ward and REALLY need to brush up on cardiac before I take the ACLS test next month.

Tuesday, I had aqua aerobics again; then had to go to work to competency testing - 45 minute drive each way for 35 minutes at testing; oh well - I passed! I'd thrown a cooler in the van, so hit Aldi on the way home and stocked up on some things for the mid term pantry as well as the current use stuff. Hit WM again for peach colored thread (couldn't believe I didn't have any!) and reasonably priced pectin - found Sure-Jell low sugar pectin 2 packs for $4.88, cheapest I've found so I picked up 3. They have a use by date in 2020 so will stop back by there and stock up on a dozen or so later this week. Got home, got everything unloaded, then made three more batches of peach jam before retiring to the couch to read for a bit.

Today, I was up and out in the garden shortly after daybreak, getting it weeded before it gets back up into the 90's today; and then watering everything. Got that finished and came up to the house and watered all my flowerbeds as well. I was pulling water from the outside rain water tank (stock tank) and brought up a bucket of good sized tadpoles, so I poured them back in to the tank and went to the other end to dip out water - only had to scoop a few out of the bucket with my hand and put them back in the tank :) Then I picked tomatoes and cukes; then checked the green and yellow beans - they are finally starting to set on, so I got enough for supper at least. The sweet corn will be ready to work up this weekend; I'm hoping that the rest of the peaches ripen enough that I can get them canned on Saturday, so we'll have Sunday to take care of the corn. I need to take the grandkids shopping for school supplies on Monday, so I'm hoping we're able to get it all done on Sunday.

This afternoon, I'm going to drag in a couple more coolers so I can clean and defrost the small upright freezer in the basement - we'll need a place to put the corn! I'm thinking I have some smoked sausage in that freezer I should probably be using it; it'll go good with the green beans tonight; then I can pull a cabbage, and dig some carrots and potatoes out of the garden to go with the rest of the package this weekend.

Reckon I'd better go find some lunch, then get back to work...

Take care, folks - stay safe!! The heat seems to be getting to folks around here; lots of angry and crazy out there!!

Renee - ACLS has been really simplified over the last decade. They've even pulled vasopressin out of the algorithim. You'll do great. I had to go to our annual check-off with stuff, including a fake code. The firewood was not - it was used lumber with lots of nails, and several LARGE yellowjacket nests. Yeah - not worth it even if it's free!

Co-worker came to help with firewood, but since that didn't work out, he came out to help me fence. Actually his son helped a lot, and is coming out again on Friday. So excited that I've found some help!

Good heavens,I am beat! Made pig feed today (co-worker helped immensely!), and put in a few t=posts and panels before just getting exhausted. I fully anticipate I am going to fall asleep on the computer and drool all over myself. One of the docs I work with says I always look more exhausted coming into my weekend to work than when I leave - he's right. I work a lot more at home than I do at work! Anyhow.... got up and got the corn and soy we needed, then the tractor refused to start. Tried to jump it, but I think (or the semi driver who tried to jump the tractor) it's the starter. Came home, got chains and a bigger tractor and pulled the puny tractor and the grinder/mixer home. Finished the feed, and got it in the bulk feeders about an hour before the rain started. Perfect timing!

This is my last day off for quite a while. I work the weekend, then school starts Monday. If you think of me, please whisper a prayer. I'm not reallly worried about the content, more the technical stuff. Last time I went to school, we turned in everything hand-written and handed (as opposed to emailed) to the teacher. If it was a big paper, we typed it. Gonna go quick, my eyelids are getting droopy.

Ooof - a whole day of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, and very little to show for it! Having the littlest grandson dropped off at 0830 may have had something to do with that :) I think about the only productive thing I managed was picking up 14 more 12 ct boxes of canning jar lids when we stopped by Dollar General to pick up a birthday card on our way to great nephews 1st birthday party - I had a coupon for $5 off $25 purchase, so the total for card and canning jar lids came out to $21 plus tax; and I received another $5 off $25 coupon on my receipt. We gave the young'un a 2017 Silver Eagle for his first birthday; his Papa gave us a thumbs-up, so I'm thinking it was a welcome gift. Supper was served at the party, so no cooking needed this evening; and grandson ran around enough at the party that I think he'll be ready to crawl in bed soon - Grandma won't be far behind him

Take care, folks; wishing you all a blessed weekend!
