Up to .35 inches of rain so far, and hopefully more to come. It's a cool (for July ) 77*F here, with a nice breeze blowing and clouds covering the sun to go along with it; I had to let my hair down and pull on a light sweater to be comfy sitting out on the porch with my coffee this morning. It's supposed to be cloudy most of the day, so I will likely go out and plant some clearanced bright pink Monarda (bee balm) that I picked up at WM the other day - the purple Monarda I have is drawing tons of butterflies to compete with the honeybees.

I drove the buggy (Mule) around the farm yesterday after I was finished mowing; 3 of the beekeeper's hives look strong, but the other two appear weak; I hope that they are able to make enough honey to survive the winter. The persimmon trees have only a light crop this year, and the black walnuts have already dropped a lot of nuts, likely due to the hot temps we've been having. We have rural water service; and we do have storage capabilities - 1000 gallon tank, 2 - 250 gallon tanks, stock tanks; plus all the inside storage and 3 wells; but I still have concerns about a drought situation.

The cousins were down on Friday to mow and check the game cams; they took turns on the tractor and cutting down some dying trees. They got the wood cut into rounds, split, and stacked down by their hunting cabin before returning home - it made a face cord; with the small size of the cabin and efficiency of their stove, it looks like they are set for deer season.

The grocery store and other store sales have been pathetic lately - mostly junk food and convenience type frozen foods; the drug store sales are also nothing much. I do need to re-evaluate our med storage since the kids are getting older - rotate out the liquid/baby meds to friends before they expire, and watch for sales on age appropriate versions of acetominophen, ibuprofen, diphenhydramine, etc... I also need to figure out where my rubbing alcohol stash disappeared to - not sure if it got used or I just can't find it. I had a feeling that I was getting a touch of swimmer's ear last week so went to flush my ear with the usual 50/50 peroxide and rubbing alcohol mix but ended up having to substitute Bacardi rum for the rubbing alcohol :) It did clear up the ear ache, and the doc I work for said it wouldn't hurt anything, but I still think I'll pick up a few bottles of rubbing alcohol for the med cabinet...

Think I'll head out and fill birdfeeders, then work in the flower beds for a bit; might be able to do some hoeing around the edges of the gardens as well if it doesn't rain for a bit. And if it does rain, I can still clean the porch, or sort tubs of boy clothes (weeds, those boys grow like weeds, I tell ya!), work in the pantry, read some of Kathy's older stories, nap......

Take care all; wishing you all a blessed week!

Thank you, Renee, for keeping this thread going every week. I wish I had your energy! Longtime lurker, joined so I could see Hairy's photos.
I'm just trying to survive the heat.

Yiii- what a week. I had planned on getting a bunch of my to-do list done, but it was not to be. DH and I have become landlords - pray for us. This has been part of our plans for quite a while, but it's now time that we are actually getting tenants. This has necessitated us cleaning out a house, moving furniture, etc (which has needed to be done for a long time). Sunday, I set up several LLCs so that we can actually do business, instead of just winging it (well, as little as possible).

I also have started doing some herbal work for local folks, so there's that. Between that, trying to get some 'yard work' done on the 160 acres up north, and keeping up at home and work - well, it's been a week. One great point from the windstorm a couple weeks ago is that our neighbor is cleaning out a bunch of LARGE downed trees. He is giving them to us just for hauling them off. I would say we're set for firewood for quite a while.

I love these weekly threads, too! They inspire me.

A couple of months ago, a wind storm came through our place, knocking down a huge Red Oak tree in our yard. We finally got it all cut up and moved out of our yard, and DH is still splitting and stacking it into our wood shed. We should get another 4 cords of firewood out of it when it's all said and done. We already had several cords split and stacked from other downed trees around us. I think we're set on firewood for the next couple of winters, at least.

Busy week at work and home this week, but I took most of my day off on Thursday for rest and reflection.... until a message came through from youngest grandson stating that he & brother wanted to go out for Mexican food... I texted daughter - who in an appointment and wasn't aware he'd messaged me  - and picked up the two boys (granddaughter had cheer practice/tumbling) and off we went. Then I took advantage of Wal-Mart's school supply sales and we picked up most of the boys' school supplies, plus an extra set of the supplies for each grade in case there is a need - the Catholic Charities school supply/clothing bus was at the grocery store mini-mall as we drove by, but there wasn't much of a line - don't know if that reflects a lack of need in the area (doubtful), parents not being able to get there or not having access to Facebook to know it was there, or just not worrying about it. Home then, some fun outside as it was reasonably cool for July, then early to bed for all three of us. Friday was spent catching up on laundry, housecleaning, and playing outside - we drove around the wildlife patches/bee forage areas, then walked around the yard and gardens and talked about pollinators; writing down the different types we saw.

Today is back to work; Hubby will be stopping on his way home from work to pick up some Boost at CVS - it's $9.99/carton; buy three; get $5 ECB; he'll use a $4 Extra Care Buck from 2nd quarter spending, a $5 ECB from Pharmacy rewards, and a $1 mailer; so will pay $20 out of pocket and get back the $5 ECB. I would have held out for a better deal, but he really want's to try a new high protein version, and this was the best deal I could cobble together.

I will stop at Dollar General on my way home from work to pick up a few items as well:
4 Head and Shoulder shampoo (used for body wash) @ $6 each = $24
2 Gain Flings (daughter's request) @ $3.95 each = $7.80
3 12 pks A&W Rootbeer @ 3/$10
Total:$42.80
Use:
2 - $4/2 Head and Shoulder coupons = $8
2 - $2 Gain coupons = $4
$5 off $25 DG coupon = $5
Total: $17
Pay $25.80 plus tax; will get another $5/$25 coupon good for the following Saturday

Darn, there goes the alarm again - time to gulp down some coffee while I pack up the nose bag and drag on a set of scrubs...

Take care all; wishing you all a safe and happy weekend!

One of those days - stripped in the garage and clothes went into a garbage bag until I can do laundry. DH had fixed dinner and I"m thinking about a very early bedtime.
