I don't believe any of us should be living in fear. That's not my reason for prepping. I do think we should be aware of what's going on and prepare the best we can to deal with any possibilities. Nothing wrong with discussing and changing contingency plans if we need to.

What's the prepping thread for if not to discuss preparedness?

I agree! I think it's just using wisdom to pay attention and to prep.

if you want some possible warning about any of the pending Hot Spots popping >>> watch the politicians, the celebs, the elitists, the powerbrokers like the $$$$ people >>> they'll get it direct or their security staff might get a tip off thru their previous service .....

if you hear any obvious media talk about canceling appearances & scheduled events - unscheduled vacations especially overseas to unmentioned destinations - sudden "illnesses" - people just plain disappearing from their usual haunts ...

if you have any possible connections to the Richy Rich get-away summer home/winter ski lodges areas of the country >>>> ask them to keep an eye open for unusual volume traffic ...

Sweet Sherree, I'm feeling a little jaded right now, of course we need to prep and I have. In the past I've been guilty of running around with my hair on fire (which by the way I just got it cut off) in a panic running here and there buying stuff. If I forgot something, so be it.

I totally understand, Judy. I know you've prepped and prepped well! More than me, I'm sure. No, we shouldn't get ourselves worked into a panic. We are more prone to make mistakes when we do that, but we live and learn. I've worked myself into a frenzy many times, too, but learned the hard way that I got too carried away and made mistakes.

Yeah... One Second After is too dark and nihilistic for many... (On The Beach was worse). But Alas Babylon isn't a bad read... it doesn't leave you feeling hopeless, and it's very thought provoking.

On the Beach is the Worst. No hope. Even the Road is happier.

Here is my thought on last minute list. I see the possibility of lots of people hitting the road and shops not being open due to lack of personnel to run the stores. Then there is the whole thing of not being able to get money due to banks being closed. I know really negative, right? Our plan is to bunker down here. It will be uncomfortable but seems to be our best solution. Lots of family here that just have NO clue and I think we would have to help. Would help if I knew where the bad stuff would land!!

On my list none of it is vital. If the stores are too busy just drive by. Keep cash on hand.

Got most of whats on my list. Got to get gas tomorrow. The good news is this means nothing will happen and animals will eat well.

I just love reading how you all think! We will bug in. Books and DVD's are all here! We have prepped to stay here from the very beginning. Having said that we aren't set in our ways and while older can still get it in overdrive if need be! But like Cary we might just glow!
So hijacking thread for a moment... New labs drawn and they were great. Coming off insulin which is the greatest news!
As an exercise in hope I planted daffodils today. On the way to big town I saw flowering quince in bloom along with narcisus and last but not least a tulip poplar. It was like seeing a promise!

Well, this is going off topic, but I wanted to share how Cary's Urologist appt went, yesterday. Doctor was very concerned about Cary's two episodes of Sepsis. So, he wanted to find out what was causing the frequent UTI's. He scanned Cary's bladder and found the problem. His bladder isn't emptying out all the way, and the retention of urine is setting up the bacterial infections. Now, Cary is waiting on an appt to have his bladder scoped to see what the problem is. We're praying that it's nothing serious. His doctor gave him a script for med to help empty his bladder. Doctor also told him to keep taking the D-Mannose, cranberry pills, and eating yogurt. He said those were great for him to use.

I've been vacuum sealing dehydrated hash browns into canning jars this morning. I love those hash browns in those big cartons from Sam's. I don't like leaving them in the cartons, though. Too afraid of bugs or mice getting them.

My seed order and Tattler lids arrived yesterday. I ordered some new seeds to try. They are all heirloom so I can save seed from here on out if we like them.

I seem to have caught a bug. I don't know if it is Rona or not. I have a low grade fever, body aches, and a headache that lessens with aspirin. I was on my 4th day keeping our grandson. He and his parents were sick last week. But work insisted they come back Tuesday. They tested negative for Covid. But our other adult child has had it. His girlfriend tested positive Monday,he never tested. He got sick before the girlfriend but thought it was a bad cold. We were around him about a week before this hit me.

My little dog is getting out of jail today. She has been in heat. Tomorrow is 21 days. But she is over her cycle. I know she will nearly run over me she will be so happy. It has been really cold. She wore coat the last several nights. Her doghouse has hay and an old rug as a flap door to keep the wind out.

Today I hope to get all the toys picked up. Grandson wanted to play in him mother's old room. He went to get a car that rolled under the bed and got very excited. He told me that there was a big truck under there. It was actually a wooden school bus his great grandfather made for is mom when she was little. He thought it was the coolest thing. He played with it some but eventually went back to his hot wheels

DH and I were just talking about what will we really need at the grocery store. Its really just soda (which he drinks a lot of) maybe a block of cheese from time to time, bananas. I have frozen be it crumbles when we try to slice it. He mentioned spices but I have a really good supply of them, although I don't use much really. DH doesn't like spicey food, but salt and a little pepper does wonders for most things. i hope the few people I've shared that I have a full pantry don't get too desparate.

Its been 11 days since I went to the grocery. I bought two cases of water, one pound of cheese, a large bag of Hormel bacon bits, soda and a loaf of bread. I have a few things on my list for the next time I go, whenever that is, might be Monday, we have to pick up commodities that day and since we are on a gas budget we need to do as many things in one trip as possible.

We are good and have many blessings but we have to tighten our belts money wise. Even though my income has taken a bit of a hit we are by no means broke, just have to be wiser with what we do have.

God is good all the time

Finally ordered a Berkey today after finding out prices are going up (10-30%) in February.

We had our well tested in November and it was free of bacteria and nitrates (huge problem in this high dairy CAFO county). However, it is high in Iron and sulfur, and tastes horrible if not run through the water system.

Since the state of the world is iffy at best, it was finally time to get this done so we don't have to rely on power in order to drink.
