Whew - I got busy toward the end of the week - hanging out with the neighbor, dinner with the work peeps, flipping shifts to work 11am-11pm the last two days of the week...

Got up mid morning on Saturday since I didn't get home from work until nearly 1am (late admission) and fiddled around a bit before heading to town to pick up the grands. I took a detour on the way and picked up some 1 oz silver rounds that a fellow had posted on a local trading site; we were both pretty happy with the deal. Then I took granddaughter to WM to get some hair stuff (it must have a LOT of alcohol in it because I can't come up with anything besides evaporation causing her to need more every other week

One grandson tagged along to help pick out a birthday present for a party both boys were invited to in the evening. The birthday girl loves to draw, so I donated a ream of my 1 cent (after rebate) Staples computer paper to the gift bag; the kids then picked out some nice markers, colored pencils, and a giant box of crayons (fondly remembering the days when a box of 64 crayons was something to wish for :) ) Then it was back to daughter's to snag the other boy, and off to the farm. We had a fairly heavy snack around 3 pm as I didn't want to take the boys to a tumbling gym with full tummies; then read for a while before heading in to town.

I wasn't needed to help at the party, so snuck out with my Dollar General $5 off $25 coupon to pick up couch throws for two of the grandkids - found one each navy and purple patterned throws; regular price $18 each but on sale for $5 off; with my $5 off $25 coupon, that took the price down to around $11 each which suited me fine. I really liked finding the purple one as I'd gotten a pair of knitted slipper socks in the same color in the grab bag gift exchange at work that have raccoons on them - granddaughter will really like the two together :)

On my way out the door with the blankets, I noted a 50%-75% off school supply display which included a fairly thick, clear, plexiglass clipboard - something clicked in my brain  The plexiglass had broken in one of my birdfeeders a week or so ago, and I was too cheap to spend $29 on a new birdfeeder at Rural King the other day, and couldn't find a small enough/reasonably priced enough piece of plexiglass at at the hardware store to make a replacement window for the feeder. For 38 cents plus tax, the clipboard came home with me; and it didn't take too much talking (mentioning the price of a new birdfeeder, etc...) to get Hubby to cut it to size and install it in place of the broken piece.

We got quite a bit of work done outside today as it was a very nice day - although the boys did somehow manage to find 6 blooming dandelions to pick for me, which led to me taking a Zyrtec about an hour later  It finally kicked in about an hour ago, thank goodness!

I'll be splitting a work shift tomorrow to help cover for a co-worker who is having a medical procedure; won't have to go in until 1pm, so I'll still be able to go to aqua aerobics and breakfast with the ladies - and maybe even get a few things done at home before I head in. Work Tuesday & Wednesday, then have Thursday off so will go to aqua aerobics with the girls; then have Friday off as well so will take best friend out to the Mexican restaurant for lunch to celebrate her birthday before going to watch our team play basketball game Friday evening; taking granddaughter home afterwards. I must have been terribly bored before I was blessed with grandkids

Off to take these two varmints home so daughter can feed 'em some supper before they con me into McDonalds or something!

Take care all; have a wonderful week!

Honey, it makes me tired too  But it's a good tired :) I've added a kindergarten Christmas program to the schedule on Friday afternoon; plus snagging the grandsons after school to take them with me to the basketball game - I'll be dragging by the time I get all three of them home, but daughter will be grateful for the unencumbered time to get ready for their winter vacation, which they take in lieu of presents. They leave early, early Saturday morning, so the 6 kid-free hours Friday evening will be appreciated... And after I finish my Saturday/Sunday shift, I'll have FOUR days in a row off work!!

One store's midweek ad came today - ho-hum. Still hoping for a good deal on butter from the other two that have midweek ads... Maybe I'll just buy a variety of the chocolate chips that are on sale this week and make French chocolates instead of cookies this year... Bag of Andes mint chips, can o' sweetened condensed milk, melted together in the top of a double boiler. Slosh of vanilla, beat well. Form into small balls and roll in green and white sprinkles. Rinse and repeat with other varieties of chips/colors of sprinkles. Ooooh - sprinkles! I need sprinkles!! That means a trip to the Amish store! The Amish store isn't too far from the pool; I'd be half way there if I went there after aqua aerobics..... I guess those two things, followed by a trip to the beauty shop for a haircut that afternoon will probably take care of most of Thursday... I'll sleep in Friday morning

Best laid plans of mice and men.... Text message from daughter as I was leaving work last night (only 40 minutes late ) - little grandson sent home from school yesterday late morning for throwing up/fever, can't come back until 24 hours emesis and fever free - I guess the bug is sweeping through all three school buildings. And daughter was booked back to back with clients starting at 0730 this morning...

Grandma to the rescue :) Dumped everything from my schedule except the haircut; my work Buddy is coming over to keep an eye on the short person while I run to that - and that might have had something to do with guilt because I had to pin my hair back with paperclips to keep it out of my eyes so that I could see to start an IV for him yesterday...

So far, the two of us have had some couch time, brought the Christmas tree upstairs and set it up, decided we wanted some snowflake style tree lights before we decorate it, shoved three storage tubs of holiday decorating stuff back into the basement closet (I thought I took it all to my daughter last year when she decorated her house for the Holiday house walk??!), filled bird feeders, put out peanuts for the chipmunk, broke the ice on the stock tank, fed the cat, swept the utility room and the main floor of the house, and did three loads of laundry - he loves to clean the dryer lint filter for me :) Right now he is using his Mama's Fisher Price roller skates to skate through the kitchen and living room - circling around the island cabinet before making the straight shot to the living room couch! (How much longer is it 'til my hair appointment again.... )

Hoping you are all having a good week....

Well, I spent some much needed vacation time de-stressing and relaxing on a cruise. Got to spend some quality time with my better half, which has been in short supply in the last year with my crazy job hours. Only three more weeks at that crazy job before I quit and work tax season again. Sometimes peace of mind is better than all of the overtime in the world.

I keep our preps topped off. Added some more green beans (and tossed some 7 year old cans that were making suspicious noises), some creamed corn (from a brand better half likes--got rid of the "unliked" brands), topped off the soup supply and the like. Ordered a couple of pair of pants (2 sizes smaller, yay!) to have something nice to wear in the tax office. Going through the closet and getting rid of the bigger sizes.

Still need to do a major clean and reorg in my office, but that will have to wait until next year. Right now, I am just going to try to enjoy the season. I love Christmas!

pw... you KNOW your life is too crazy when you're looking FORWARD to tax season!! ROTFLMAO!! I know what our CPA looks like around April 12th, and it's not pretty!

I get tired reading all you guys' reports, too... I do remember when I was running in thirteen different directions, milking cows, and then staying up most weekend nights from Spring to fall, to "monitor" (read: discreetly chaperone) the woods cabin our boys built and then used to party in every single weekend as long as the weather held. I had a lovely little half-Arabian pony who I was able to ride the 1/2 mile back to the cabin- completely noiseless and light free, since she had excellent night vision. So, they never knew when I'd just suddenly... appear... out of the dark, usually bearing hot chocolate and cookies. But it kept them (mostly!) on the straight and narrow! And somehow, we survived.

My second grandson tells me every time he visits, "grandma, I wish I lived next door to you!" Well, we wish he did, too! He's going to be really jealous when his little cousin is living on the farm within the next few years... but that will also mean he'll have two places he can stay over and visit. And I'll admit, after not having littles in the house for a long time, by the time he heads home after a week's visit, I'm BEAT! I know a big part of it is that our kids were very self sufficient, and there were also 4 of them. Once I got past the first 3 years or so (the first two were born 10 months apart!), they pretty well entertained themselves for hours every day. When it's just Caden and I at home... well, grandma gets to be full time playmate, cat wrangler, horse saddler-and-leader... as well as the usual chief cook and bottle washer, gardener, milkmaid, cheesemaker, etc, etc...

It's one of the few times in my life I actually do feel like I'm getting older!

anytime you have old food preps - don't want to trust them anymore - no telltale signs of age or damaged - have room to keep them? - could be a time you can use them for bait or to buy yourself out of trouble - better than just tossing them ....

It's been a long busy week. I headed to see mom and dad (8 hours away) last saturday. Took care of chores like the safety deposit box and making funeral arrangements (pre-paid). Dad was put on hospice finally on Thursday. Helped Mom do some cleaning out and packing and got to have a great visit with my kids. Had a 2 hour conversation with my son (longest we've really talked in probably 8 years), got to see DD#2's new house. Spent some time with my sister as well. I took a dog to my mom that a friend had had to get rid of - it was perfect for her, and they are bonding really well.

DRove home (cross ways to 45 mph winds for 6 hours) Wednesday. Worked a 16 hr shift on Thursday, then 12 today. Scheduled for 12 on Saturday and Sunday. In between, I've done some laundry, talked to more family about dad, cut DH's hair. I'm tired!

Also got my final grade for herbalism class: Passed with honors with 101%. Doing all that extra credit paid off!
