Merry Christmas to you, too! I've ended up with a really unwanted Christmas present - a stomach bug - that is just now letting up. I made a good dinner of appetizers for DH, but could only eat a little myself (that's OK).

We've had about 3 inches of snow (on top of rain and slush), so I don't know if my plans for tomorrow will work out or not. I had planned on hitting some of the stores along the front range for marked down stuff - I guess we'll see in the morning.

Inlaws are coming for Christmas on Wednesday, then Thursday I head to KS to pick up DD and see my folks - back home Friday. It's gonna be a short week.

I've been coming to TB for so many years to get my news fix that I stopped checking out all the sub pages like this one. I need to start checking here every few days since I need to re prep in some areas. Glad I checked in here today :)

Merry Christmas to all of you....still pretty sick here, just taking it one day at time. Thank goodness I Christmas shopped early and had most everything done, so everything went really well even though I celebrated from the couch! Couldn't bake but was able to get treats to make up my treat boxes for the neighbors. Kids were happy and thankful for their gifts. We kept up with traditions and set up a cocoa bar & watched our favorite Christmas movies and played the never-ending game of Monopoly. I really wanted to make it to church Sunday with my son but just couldn't, that was about the only plan I couldn't make happen.
I'm now ready to be done with 2016. It was a very very difficult year and I'm ready to move on.

Poor DH got my gunk last night. I think he's feeling better - I sure hope so since we have about 14 of his family members coming Wednesday!! Made it to Walmart to pick up my new glasses (need to use that vision insurance while I have it - I get it every other year, and had kinda forgotten about it until last month) and a few groceries. I ran by Home Depot to see if they had any rope lights for a project we're doing, but no luck.

Today, I've made a Black Forest cheesecake, the filling for an ambrosia-filled coconut cake, mashed potatoes, and boiled eggs for deviled eggs. The menu for Wednesday is prime rib, burgundy mushrooms (oh my goodness - sooooo good!), mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, cider, the previously mentioned desserts, and whatever the inlaws bring.

I've had a lot on my mind lately (what little mind I have it seems). The holidays always are bittersweet, and get me to thinking about the past and what I should have done differently. It's not a healthy mindset. So my new motto is to live with intention. If I always pick up soda, I"m not going to drink the water I know I need to be drinking instead. If I sit at the computer, I"m not accomplishing what I need to get done. You know, it's never the big decisions that seem to bring me grief. It's the little day-to-day, seemingly unimportant ones that kick my butt and make me question myself. So, I"m not waiting for the new year - I"m starting now. By getting off the computer and finishing up things I need to do.

If anyone needs me, I'll be at Moldy's, chowing down on Black Forest Cheesecake...

Minimal preps added recently, but I did use several items I'd purchased on sale earlier in the year in preparing holiday goodies, so that money did not need to come out of my pocketbook in this traditionally expensive month; and bless the stores for not having good sales - that money stayed in it's envelope in my pocketbook as well!

Another savings this year was opting out of the gift exchange between adults in Hubby's family - I had tried and tried over the years to talk them into cutting it down to a reasonable level - one item - a jar of jam or some homemade fudge, something like that; but it just kept getting more and more extravagant, so I finally played the ogre this year and said "No more!" (I blamed it on the $14K pay cut hit that we took this year, so no one argued!) There is only one small child in his family - a six month old; we sent him a silver eagle, and Hubby caught his Mama in a quiet moment and slipped her a card with some cash. My daughter and SIL received a homemade certificate for 7 days of my time so that they could take an adult vacation, and the grandkids got mostly useful items.

We are still waiting for the magazines I subscribed to for the kids to show up, but they did try out the thermal swimsuits they received as part of their Christmas gifts when we all went swimming this evening; they seemed to work very well - at least the littlest one's teeth weren't chattering! Good exercise for Grandma - repeatedly lifting 32# and 60# out of 42" deep water up onto the deck of the pool so they can go down the slide again - and again and again and again..... - has got to be considered a good upper body workout

Plans for tomorrow include popping into the chiropractor's office for a quick adjustment, then a 3 mile walk with the neighbor lady. It is the one year anniversary of her husband's passing, so I left the day mostly clear in case she needed an ear, or a companion to do something with. If we are on the run, I have a partial skein of red/green/white yarn and a brand new in the package spool knitting thingy that I picked up at the Senior Citizens thrift shop the other day for a grand total of 75 cents out of pocket that I'll bring along to see if I can figure it out - I'm wanting to make stocking hats to put on some of those little battery operated tea lights (found a dozen of 'em in the Christmas decorations) to make them into snowmen ornaments for next year (it'll probably take me that long to figure out the knitting thingy :lkick: ) The 'flame' on the tea lights is the carrot nose of the snowman; then you paint on the face and fasten a ribbon on the back for a hanger.

Other than giving the inside of my van a good cleaning while the weather is warm, Thursday plans are open until evening - daughter and SIL have a reception they need to go to, so I am taking the grandkids (and likely a couple of spare kids!) to see an animated movie at our small town movie theater (good thing I've got holiday pay coming from Christmas - one tub of popcorn is more expensive than the 4 tickets!)

Friday and Saturday are back to work - sure hope I remember how to do my job after somehow having been scheduled off 7 out of 8 days....(how THAT happened, I do NOT know!) (But I'm not complaining!)

Well, I guess I'd better close this post and head upstairs to catch a little sleep before tomorrow gets here. Take care, all - wishing you all the best...

I had an appointment this morning that got cancelled, so I had time to stop at Kohl's to see if I could find anything to use the 15% off coupon on. I ended up with 2 shirts and a heavy weight beanie hat. I found out how light my beanie hat was when I had to do outside guard duty for 12 hours a few weeks ago. It would be fine for quick trips outside, but not extended exposure. This new hat should take care of the problem.

I also hit Petsmart and bought another month of cat food--used a $5 off coupon that was going to expire and the cat food was on sale, so a double deal.

Christmas was good, though we had to do ours on Monday morning, since I had to work Christmas Day. I'll also be working on New Years, so time and a half will help the next paycheck. I've been doing the numbers for 2016 and I actually did pretty well toward the financial goals. Hoping 2017 will be even better.

I cleaned out my closet. I had suits in there from 20+ years ago that I was never going to wear again. Time to send them on to someone else. Got rid of a bunch of other stuff as well (all donated to charity) so now I actually can see what I have, can wear everything in the closet, and have extra space.

I also got the oil changed, tires rotated and new wipers put on my car today. First maintenance I've had done on it--I've had it six months and put a little over 4000 miles on it. It now has 19,700 miles.

Also got a new desk calendar for 2017 and started filling it up. Time passes quickly.

I have to work New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but I get time and a half, so that will help start the year off right. I also start working for tax season on Tuesday, so I will be very busy until April.

Tonight was our first cold night, so I had a fire in the fireplace and did my annual reading of "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Two very large cups of hot chocolate spiked with butterscotch schnapps were also consumed, so I am nice and warm and ready for bed :)

Awesome idea! I just got back from KS with DD. Hit Aldi while I was there and picked up a few things - crackers for the year, that I will vaccume seal in quart jars on my next off day - and iced tea mix. Got home to find that the dogs had decided to run off and DH hadn't been able to find them. I found them at the first neighbor I tried - I'll make her some goodies on my next day off as well.

Butterscotch schnapps & a good read Sounds wonderful! Its cold and getting even colder over the next week so I will have to get my (was actually my dd's when younger) copy out to read as its been a long time since I last read it.

**Moldy**...when storing the crackers for a year do you use oxygen absorbers?
