We made it back, and I'm really tired, after dating and putting everything away. My back is acting up, again, too.

We had several places to stop in town. Walmart was our last stop. I didn't do too bad on groceries and cleaning supplies for the month considering how much I bought, but I think I'm going to have to go back mid-month for more items. $493.23+ what I spent at the Wine Shop. I bought a lot of extra for storage like laundry detergent, dishwash, wrinkle release spray, more TP, and other paper products, and more storage food. I only bought 2 family size packs of boneless rib-eye pork chops, 3 lbs of boneless chicken breast, 2, 1lb pks of ground beef, and 2, 2.5 lb pks of ground beef. That's all I got at the meat market. I was afraid to buy more in case it all wouldn't fit in the meat freezer.

I'm also going to be getting back to my own breadmaking. I bought new bread flour and yeast, since I wanted fresh. I've already got both in one freezer but, I didn't want to undertake the chore of digging them out. I will in the future. I would like to get my starter going, but I won't be able to bake this coming week. Rain almost every day, and we both have doctor's appointments 2 of those days. When it comes to me making bread, I don't like to be/feel rushed. I'm not too good at it like it is, but Cary eats it. Some loaves turn out better than others. I don't bake in rainy weather, either.

I just picked up a box of frozen beef and cheese taquitos for our supper, tonight. I'm too tired to cook, and my back hurts.

I love these things, but I can't buy a box of them, I'd eat them all in a day or so.

I think there are 42 in the box I bought. We can't eat them all, so I just take out ever how many we need. I like mine with salsa dip. They make for a quick meal, but it's not something either one of us want to eat very often. I'm just too tired and hurting too bad to cook, tonight.

Hello everyone!

DH and I finally made the Costco run I’ve been planning for a few weeks now but things kept coming up. Nashville is the closest one for us but it’s still a lot of road time. These trips always wear me out for a few days and today is no different, so I’m holding the couch down and watching some tv.

Added 25lbs of jasmine rice, 60lbs of unbleached flour, a couple of bottles of honey, olive oil, 15lbs of onions, 20lbs of potatoes, a bag of almond flour that I want to try, a big jar of chopped garlic, juice boxes for grands, frozen sweet cherries and mixed veg, jam, brats and Italian sausages, angus burger patties, several cheeses, butter, milk, heavy cream and other things I can’t remember right now. Pricey trip but we’re set on some things for awhile.

DH is on his way to grandsons soccer game and will be picking up a flat of strawberries on the way so I’ll be putting those up tomorrow.

Today is a "wash out". It started pouring rain last night, and it hasn't let up, since. Flooding rains. So, nothing much will be happening here, today. We have rain chances every day for the next 8 days. Temps stay in the upper 80's to low 90's. The humidity got so bad later yesterday afternoon that Cary had to bring our big floor fan in from the mini barn and set it up. It ran all night. House was a bit cool this morning when I got up, so I turned it off.

I'll be heating up the rest of the smoked ham I cooked day before yesterday, and to go with it, we'll have peas, roasted garlic potatoes, and Kaiser rolls for our supper, tonight. No dessert. It will be the last of our heavier meals for the season.

I stocked up on everything for salad meals, yesterday. This time of year, we switch from eating heavy meals to more salads and sandwiches. It gets too hot to cook down here during the summer, especially when we're trying not to use the a/c no more than necessary. We eat much lighter. I also stocked up on Gatorade for Cary, since he works outside all summer.

Rainy here again today for for the next several days. I have to turn on the ac when it get to 84 in the house because I can't stop coughing. I turned it on a few days ago just to lower the temp in the house a bit and then I turned it off. Right now I sleep with two small fans on me, although I have to keep them away from my head or I'll wake up stuffed up. I've got one perfectly angled at my neck.

I ordered four glass containers that will be perfect for ground meat in the freezer. The switch from plastic to glass is going fairly well. I guess I've spent about $100 for glass containers, some from walmart and mostly from amazon. I have to go for the best prices and more often than not amazon has the best, but sometimes they are better at walmart. I'm also switching from wheat flour to coconut flour, although I don't use flour for very much.

I'm saving some money on things from amazon by using subscribe and save. I know some people are avoiding amazon and God only knows what the hell bezos is doing behind the scenes but I still have to look for the best price. In addition all the companies that we use their products there is no telling what they are doing. I pray for the next generations for what they will have to endure, but unfortunately many folks will follow along like sheep because they don't know any better. That includes my daughters in law, who also influence my sons, although me sons know better in their hearts.

I understand, Judy. If it weren't for Amazon and Walmart, I don't know what most people would do. We have to pick our poisons based on our abilities, I guess. We boycotted Walmart, too, for a very long time. Now, Walmart is the cheapest place for us to buy groceries and most supplies, so we no longer boycott them. I hate having to buy from them, but we had to choose for ourselves.

We use both Amazon and Walmart..
We are not going to add to our expenses just to boycott a major retailer...
There are items that we would need to drive in excess of 100 miles to obtain locally... not happening...time and gasoline are too dear...to be waisted that way.....

When we need something that Walmart or another store doesn't offer, we order and buy directly from a company that does have it. No middleman. We don't order a lot, anyway. Our own choice, our own convictions, and our own abilities.

Celebrate with me! The dead ash has been removed, area cleaned up, and holes from the bucket truck stabilizers filled in. No injuries, not even cut fingers.

It's a huge relief having it gone. High winds and t-storms are in the forecast for tomorrow, but I'll rest easier since the tree is gone.

I don't know what is going up in its place, but I will plant something suitable and hardy that won't overgrow the lot or make a mess.

I know how you feel. I was so relieved when this old oak tree was downed and the ground was cleaned up last year. It scared me every time a hard wind blew through. We still have a bare spot in the yard, but Cary just transplanted some sprigs of zoyia (sp?) grass all around in it. We decided not to replace the tree with anything. We have enough trees already.

We're getting some great firewood out of it. Cary works on the pile every chance he gets.

Yay for the tree removal! I noticed a limb on an oak tree that has me worried.

I got the flat of strawberries prepped and in the freezer and now have the chicken carcass cooking from the rotisserie chicken I bought Wednesday and deboned earlier. I think I’ll toss some egg noodles into the broth later and add some of the chicken to it. Sometimes I just fly by the seat of my pants and see what I come up with, not looking for soup though. Also will be having strawberries and cream for dessert, yum.

We have another flat of strawberries here for DD2, DH was going to pass them onto her at the soccer game yesterday but I had to text him to let him know we had cows out so he didn’t make it to the game. I hope she comes and gets them soon because I don’t feel up to doing another flat today.

This has been a long, draining week. I am hoping that the pain will finally be gone by tomorrow. I'm on the last thing to try before I call the doctor on Monday.

Son's visit to neuro today went fabulous. I did two cheats that succeeded and one fail. The first was to bring one of the camp lights with us so that we could turn off the fluorescents in the exam room. That just made son super silly happy. And then we had his Etch a Sketch. The fail was some ASMR videos for him. I forgot that I had just connected them from YouTube, not uploaded them to his phone. I'll work on that. Either way, he was happy and decided that he just wanted to hang out in the exam room.

I really need to find a cabin deep in the woods to rent for a vacation this year. Just somewhere completely away from people. I honestly spend more time remembering summers at my grandparents' cabin and how peaceful it was. We would spend the days just talking, playing cards, and being.

I ordered more plants. I'd scold myself but, honestly, I'm enjoying myself too much. These aren't veggies. These are edible perennials or medicinal herbs that I've wanted for a long, long time. And there are half barrel planters coming this weekend that I can plant them in. (No, not the massively expensive ones.) And three really large bags of potting soil waiting. All I really need to do is turn some two liter bottles into water catchment. Or order some plastic trays to sit in the bottom of the barrels. I need to measure them to do that.

I ordered new locks for the house. They are the ones that are pick and bump key resistant. They've been on the list for a while and went on sale this week. So I grabbed enough for all three exterior doors. Now I just need to find better locks for the garage roll up doors. Beyond bars in the lock holes and extra c-clamps in the tracks.

Anyways, going to go lay down for a bit and give the back a break. Then dinner, which is rotisserie chicken tonight.

Walked the roof and cleaned out gutters yesterday while we had a no rain afternoon. Got most of it done but my back and legs are gonna need another day to rest before I finish.

Gaining a granddaughter and 3 more greats next month. Grand who helps us a lot is getting married. He is great with kids. Good thing.

Fed him a big meal today before he and DH tackled the ATV. Lawn mower is next. If they can get it running, grand will use it in his new yard. He and fiancee are buying a place not far from us.

Almost constant rain has really hampered our outdoor chores and plans. Killed another groundhog this am. Vultures were enjoying the buffet until the biggest eagle I have ever seen decided it was his turn.
Tried to get pics of him but he spooked easy. He sure ruled the yard for a bit.

Resident squirrels are super sassy these days. While on the roof I trimmed every tree limb I could safely reach. Last thing I need right now is squirrels in the attic.

Busy month coming up. DD just finished real estate school. Grand graduating from college, great graduating from high school, grand deploying and another grand getting married. Will be burning up the road for a bit.

Once the rain stops (maybe a week) we have multiple scrap and auction loads ready to haul. Have some extra vehicles to get rid of. May call the junk car buyer.

Trying to fit canning in and around it all. Still have a freezer to go.

Picked myself plenty of flowers today. Honeysuckle, irises and peonies. Seems like a storm gets the peonies every year. Somehow I managed to get them this time. Love fresh flowers.

Have a safe weekend. Storms seem to be everywhere these days.

@patriotgal I’m a little jealous with all you do! I just can’t hold up to even half of what I once could. I hope all your family events go off without a hitch. I’d love to have some honeysuckle, it’s one of my favorite scents ever.

SonIL came by and picked up their flat of strawberries, it won’t take the kids long to eat through 8 quarts. I’m glad to have them out of my kitchen LOL! I took about a quart of strawberry slices, sprinkled with some monk fruit to sweeten the berries and let it sit awhile and poured some cream over and put in the fridge to chill. It was sooo good!

My noodles didn’t work out exactly like I hoped (I added cornstarch slurry to thicken up the broth but I think I had too much broth anyway and it just didn’t want to thicken) I tossed in some frozen mixed veg, along with egg noodles, chicken pieces and seasonings and it turned out really tasty and very filling. It was certainly cheap enough using things I had on hand and some things needing to be used up, plus we have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Sweet dreams and goodnight to all.

Got a decent night's sleep for the first time in a week.

Didn't accomplish a lot today, but did replace my American flag that was torn up by the recent storms. It's on a makeshift flagpole and a bit of a pain to lower down to change the flag, then put back up in place. Flagpole is made from a piece of top rail for chain link fence and mounted to the side of a Chinese arch that is beside my front porch. Pole is attached with conduit clamps.

The turkeys are moved to their 10x10 foot modified dog pen. We used goat panels to reinforce it because a big dog can chew through chain link. It has a roof . Today I am going to wrap the north side and the west side to give more protection from blowing rain. Our son came up and helped yesterday or we would have not gotten done.

We stopped at a yard sale on our way from town the other day. We meet so very nice people that are distant neighbors. They buy storage lockers and resale it. Though I don't need any, I bought some more sewing supplies. She had some nice fabrics she was selling for $2 a yard. She sold me thread at 10/$1. Patterns were $1. Now I really have to sew something so I don't get the stink eye from hubby. :lkick:

I hope I can get some more of my bedding plants out today. My corn is up and looks good. I need to till some, but I am not sure it's dry enough. I planted my cucumbers in pots to get them started. This rain gives us few dry days. I did spread tick granules on the yard last evening. The rain and dew will activate it.

I went in on a group order of Guinea with a young lady and her friend. Guineas are $8 at the Tractor Supply. But we ordered enough that we are getting them for $4.50 each. I am only getting 8. We will see how it goes. They may be too noisy. Hopefully they will roam out away from the house most of the time.

I have two setting hens I need to move somewhere. I am thinking of moving them to the big water tank that I brooded the turkeys in. That might work. I will have to clean it today then move my hens after dark. They never do well in the house with all the other chickens.

Have a Blessed weekend everyone.

We are looking at a week of storms. :gaah: was hoping to get a few plants put out but looks like we are spending June on the road.

We have to get some dry days to fix fence. Neighbors cows think my yard is their home these days. We are surrounded by nothing but pasture yet here they come.

Going thru more old papers today. Papers from back when gas was less than .50 a gallon and our property taxes were less than a $100. Found all the canceled checks from when we paid the doc $5 a month for delivering our first child. Life has changed in so many ways.

We are feeling an urgency to get things done asap. When DH feels it too something is going on. Today I will be painting while he mows. Tomorrow we will recover, lol. We are getting everything so better organized. Tools, canning stuff, canned goods, etc.

I am cleaning out my big personal library and have found electronics from the dinosaur Era, aka DOS. It's all going on eBay. Grands can't believe the stuff I am finding. I remind them we have been in this place for 40 plus years. As soon as it is empty someone else can start over in it. One kid asked me to text him when I find Hoffa. Ha ha.

Flicked the first cicada off the porch but haven't really heard them yet.

They are so bad here that when I went out to hang laundry on the line this morning, I flushed a covey of them right up in my face! Reminded of the days when Cary and I would go quail hunting, walking up on a covey of them, and they would flush right up in our faces off the ground.

Does anyone else, besides us, have cicadas this year? Gosh, they are everywhere, and the noise is awful. The woods surrounding us must be full of them, and I'm finding their shells all over the porch and deck.
Haven't heard any, I did see something fly at my office window that I didn't recognize, but it was just one. It looked like we were just outside the area predicted to have them.

Its overcast and rainy looking. The weather guessers don't predict any actual rain until tomorrow.

I didn't get enough steps in yesterday, will have to make a better effort today. The rainy weather makes me even lazier than usual.

You mean there was a prediction about them somewhere? I don't know if we fall under that, or not, but we sure have them.
There are several groups that are emerging this year.
Looks like we just added another grand and a grand dog to family. Think I am going to have to start writing them all down.
It looks to me like God is providing younger, stronger bodies to help with your ongoing to-do list! Don't be afraid to take advantage of it!

DH was a bit surprised that the grass grew so fast, so we had to do a quick clean up before our campers got here this morning. I need to do ....lots. Need to work on the camper, clean out the fridge, make some bread (maybe), get the freezedryer loaded, clean my canning kitchen, list stuff on Ebay.

Glad we didn't get to plant much last night - I think we had a freeze overnight.

Yes, there was a map with the predicted areas. No clue where it is. I looked it up

and that thing that flew up to my office window looked like the one pictured.

This is the list of states I found on Google.

The dual cicada brood emergence will primarily be seen in parts of Illinois and Iowa, as well as parts of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

I've only seen one so far.

Took on a new private client this morning. For a friend. Fortunately for my sanity, she only needs about 4 months of cleanup, and she is not spend crazy. She is building this business with her own money and is very cautious because of it. My favorite kind of client.

Getting lunch ready. And then, since we have sunshine instead of rain, I'm going to work on getting the landscape cloth and cardboard down for the first new raised bed. And finding the plastic barrels to turn into the water catchment.

The sun came out and its heating up. Bearable so far. I have to the oven on in the kitchen so it will get even hotter. I went out to the camper porch yesterday and found the door to the upright freezer adjar. Naturally things were thawed out. Although still cold. One of the packages of mystery meat that I gave most of it to Morgan was still cold so I brough it in and put it in the house fridg. It has turned out to be chicken breast, so I put parchment paper in two stainless steel baking pans and put it all in the oven to bake. We are not much in the way of chicken eaters so most of the cooked chicken will go in the freezer in glass containers. We can do several things with it.

One thing is it will help me try, again, to get back on my diet. I'm afraid to weigh. Dh will eat a couple in chicken pieces but he will want chicken salad for more of it. Maybe put some in chicken gravy with mashed potatoes (not on my diet) for him. I have no problem eating mine plain and I can skip the potatoes.

And we will have something already cooked for lunch after church tomorrow. I'm just about pissed that the church is having a luncheon that not everyone is invited to. This is a luncheon for the graduates of which two of the three are the pastors family. The luncheon is for the graduates and their family only. I think having something special for graduates is a good thing to do but to not invite everyone is chicken poop. The church down the road is having one and its for all the congregation. I'd never go to another meal at our church except that Dh wants to go and I'm into making him happy even if its something I don't want to do. He wants to go to church, so I'm going with him, although I've had it with this church for awhile, so I ask God to forgive me about my attitude and force myself to to with him.

I haven’t seen or heard any here and I’m not sure if we’re going to have them (at least to the extent) that other parts of TN are predicted to have.

I finally got around to changing my profile pic (I think that’s what it’s called). LOL, I didn’t even know I knew how, I was just fooling around with it and by pure dumb luck, I changed it. It’s a pic I took from my front porch Fall of 2022 when the light was hitting the oak trees just right, the poor maple was completely naked by then!

@nomifyle So sorry to hear about the freezer mishap.

I‘m having a talk with myself about getting in the kitchen and prepping for Sunday family dinner. So far self isn’t doing what she should!

I've brought the laundry in from the clothesline, and Cary is mowing. The sun is still shining for now.

Taco Salad for tonight, and grilled hamburgers with all the fixin's tomorrow afternoon if it isn't raining. I'll fry them if it's raining. Now that our temps are nice, we will be grilling a lot.

Home fellowship tomorrow morning.

So sorry, Judy, about your freezer. Did you lose everything in it?
