Attended the local pancake feed to support the volunteer fire department. Nice to see so many without masks.
As was the yard sale workers, the colored folks that came all had masks, it made them look alien.

My WM has all kinds of chicken supplies, including starter. It's a lot cheaper than the feed store. I think a lot of people don't know that, the chicken section is always stocked.

Watch the chicken feed at WM. The layer feed doesn't have enough protein for chickens' needs. Chickens require 16% protein and the WM feed has either 15% or 14%.

Yes, laying hens need 16% overall protein in their diet. If I were free ranging them, I wouldn't worry about the feed being a little lower- they pick up a lot of protein eating seeds and insects. But in winter, you'll get poor production if the feed isn't adequate.

Like I said, we didn't know it was available to us. That's our fault for not checking into it more. I guess we missed out on a great opportunity. Didn't you say the program ends this month?
They will definitely have it next Wednesday, Southern Breeze.

They might have it another month, according to a press release put out by the USDA yesterday.

But you definitely can hit it next Wednesday. And you can check the MS Crisis Foundation facebook page to find out if they wii continue into May. The MS Crisis Foundation is handling Farmers to Families food distribution for all parts of Mississippi, except for the Southhaven/Olive Branch area.

Thanks! I'll definitely be checking into it. We don't have any plans to be in Tupelo that day, but we can arrange things to where we can be, and kill several birds with one trip (Do other shopping while in town). I'm assuming, right now, that it will be at the Tupelo Furniture Market out by the airport? I don't know of any other furniture store/place that it would be held at.

I believe that is what the place is called. It is a good place to get free preps. I have a full freezer thanks to the program (lots of pre-cooked chicken that I put finishing touches on the backyard grill), plus plenty of fresh potatoes, onion, cabbage and apples, lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, 1 pound cheese blocks, and several gallons of 2% milk in the fridge. You don’t get all of this every week, but you get about 25 to 30 pounds of assorted foods in each box. And our location allows each car to get 3 boxes, so over time, that has added up to a lot of free preps for my family.

I just wish I would have investigated what might be happening in Tupelo sooner for you - but you still have anywhere from one week to maybe as many as four or five weeks left to load up on free preps.

Yeah, I wish I had known about this sooner, but not your fault. It is mine for not checking more into it. I've just always thought that we didn't qualify for any free stuff in the give away programs, so never really checked into it, other than the program in our county. We didn't qualify for it, and never checked the others.

I really don't know how much we can actually use for ourselves. My pantry room is full, and I'm having a hard time finding a place to store more. It's all going into our bedroom right now with only a limited space there. Both of my freezers are full. My storage barn is full. About the only thing I could use is some of the fresh produce, and possibly give the rest to someone else in need.
