The last few days much talk from YouTube forecasters about the coming arctic blast and we just had a short cold spell here in West Virginia and even seen some mixed weather (snow) I was running the wood stove for a few days and just today brought more firewood up to the house to replace what I used and then some.

Had a winter warning in my AO a couple days ago (must've been a new guy). It snowed a bunch, then the wind howled for days at -10 to -15 ambient...I don’t bother with wind chill. :p

More to follow for the next half-year, with no melting of accumulation (barring a warm chinook or two) plus relentlessly cold and dark. So, winter as usual and I’ll avoid belaboring that with y’all.

Still worth it! <3 Y’all be snug and warm, safe and blessed!

Yeah... we're seeing early warnings for "multiple feet" of snow...lake effect off Lake Ontario.

It will depend on the wind direction... a couple degrees difference (straight west wind, instead of north-west) and well get a couple inches, and 25 miles north, they'll have 4 feet.

Today is crystal clear, blue sky and chilly. After 40s and inches of rain over the past week, we'll take it!

Been sun and rain since the weekend here in northwest New England. Guessing the recent rain has dampened our mild drought and no-burning notices.

Supposed to be a wintry mix with a possible of an inch accumulation for Thanksgiving.

Fine with me because it may just be rain and no accumulation.

Sunny and 40F on Friday, which is when we are doing our get-together.

Now I have to decide whether I'm heading out into the pre-holiday melee to pick up a few THC infused soda-pops.

It went from the high 80s into the low 50s in FL last week. I thought I was going to freeze to death. Every house in the city that has a fireplace fired it up and it was smokey outside. It looks like we may actually get some winter this year, I am not liking that. Hurricanes, no problem, cold, nope.

We better not get any snow until I get my brand new tractor back from the dealer.

Hydraulic leak from the transmission.
They most likely have to split the tractor to fix it. Won't get to working on it till next week...maybe.

They picked it up last week.

A little pissed, I am.

OK, you can't just drop a "I have a brand new tractor nugget" without giving us the details... Out with it! Pics, HP, implements, et all

Lake effect snow closes I-90 in New York, this was in the weather forecast several days in advance so there was no reason for anyone to be stranded.

So... that video was taken about 40 miles northwest of our old farm. Currently, we're living about 60 miles south of Watertown, NY... which is getting DOUBLE the inches per hour shown in that video!

In each case, if the wind direction changes a couple degrees towards the south, we're in the bullseye. The best illustration of that was about 10 years ago, when our little town made national news getting 63" of snow in 24 hours!

We had occasional light snow flurries in Central Iowa, not even a dusting. But it's in the teens with a light breeze. I have shifted to wearing winter gear, but my body isn't ready for the cold, yet. It takes about a week for me to get used to it. The late fall, where it went into the 80s, really threw me off.

It was 21* here last night.

brrrrr!

It occasionally will dip that low for a night or two here (and has occasionally snowed several inches), and I lived in the Midwest for many years where it sometimes gets below 0 for days at a stretch for the daytime high. I've never liked any part of winter, whether it's the cold, the snow/ice storms, etc. I know it gets hot as blazes here in TX and it's off-putting to a lot of people, but I'd still choose a prolonged heat spell over prolonged cold any day. Been that way my whole life.

My town uses small pick up trucks with plows to move snow. The town board fired the top maintenance man a few days ago and the guy who worked with him also quit, so no crew. They put a friend of a board member in charge. Great time to have no knowledgeable workers ready. No one was plowing to keep up. They must think it's a 9 to 5 job. Snow built up in feet and they can't move it with small plows. Now the town had to hire a hi-lift to clear our streets for fire and rescue. Stupid dam people.

That's me. I'll take the heat down here any day over the bitter cold. It's not unusual for us to have 20* temps here in the winter. 20's at night and 40's in the daytime. We usually get a lot of rain in the winter, too. Rain and 40's with a wind chill just makes my bones hurt. I don't go out, unless it's necessary. I'm just not wired for cold weather.
