WTF?!? ''We thought we were dying': Wedding guest describes how dozens fell sick from food secretly laced with weed 'by THE BRIDE and caterer'

I'm one of those not impressed with her wedding dress either. It could be my imagination (or dirty mind), but the dress appears to be sheer, in that a certain lower hair growth is visible. Is she getting married or going to a hooker's convention? And what can be said of the man wanting to marry her?

But this is today's society, the best we can hope for is the bride being born a genetic female and the groom being born a genetic male.

yah, it does appear to be a sheer/see through dress, and yes, others noticed the lack of undergarments as well.

the appropriateness of the wedding dress for the occasion, and the fact that it was family and children present, lots of comments said they were not very surprised.

The caterer probably had a great thing going on with word-of-mouth recommendations for events in Florida. This wasn't her first time adding THC oil into olive or other fats and made canna-foods for clients. The difference being the other catering events probably had people that wanted to ingest THC.

Around here, the latest canna-catering thing is injecting smoked meats while they are smoking.

Marijuana, never tried it.
Never met anyone who (admitted) they used it.
Never was offered it.
Of course I didnt do anything illegal
that would jeopadize my pilot's license or carry permit,
or my reputation.

I knew a couple kids who did back in high school. They were the easy-going sort. If you didn't smoke, they took a "more-for-me" sort of philosophy about it.

I saw no reason to dun them about it; it was their call whether or not to do it and it's a philosophy I maintain to this day. You want to smoke, go ahead. I will not waste time and resources trying to stop you.

They also gave me one of my best memories of high school. My mother was picking me up from school--handy since she worked there at the time--and one of said potheads found me heading out. He then asked if I was interested in coming to a party that weekend. The centerpiece of said party would be the sheer number of kegs they'd drummed together.

They had 15 of them, I was told at the time.

Naturally, I was a bit taken aback. I asked how in the world he'd managed to get 15 kegs. I knew that one would be challenge enough, what with them all being underage and all. I was about 14 at the time. His response? A nonchalant "People contribute."

The best part was that this all occurred within earshot of my mother's car, and she had the windows down that afternoon. So she heard literally every word. Naturally, I wasn't about to agree to go to a keg party with my mother only feet away (Hey ma! Can I go to this guy's party this weekend? They got 15 kegs!) , so I told him I'd be unable to make it. He simply shrugged and walked away.

Both my mother and I continue to laugh about that story to this day. I've known pot smokers for quite some time. They're not the brightest bulbs in the marquee but they're certainly friendly enough.

I'm a big defender of cannabis for personal use, but this can not be defended on any level.

I kept my high paying job for the last thirty years, by only sneaking a half joint before a long weekend. Workplace drug testing is a real thing in my line of engineering work. I'd go midevel on anyone slipping something in my food, and jeopardizing my job.

Sent the headline to a friend who's on Medical Marijuana for a couple of things. His wife replied there are actually cook books for cooking w/ cannabis.

Who knew?

Apparently warnings about not exceeding ingredient amounts are well displayed; all news to me......

Exactly my thoughts too.
This could have been deadly for some people. Me for example I get bouts of high blood pressure and pulse which I'm trying to get under control. The adrenalin rush and resulting high blood pressure could easily cause a stroke or heart attack.

What I don’t get is how people were affected almost immediately after eating. Generally pot edibles take at least an hour for effects to be noticed.
Probably because they over dosed everyone and some eat more and/or eat fast. Top that with some alcohol and it could hit much faster for some. The lighter eaters I'm sure faired better.
Gosh this whole story is just terrible. I hope she's going to spend a long time in prison for this one.

Dress was to show off her silicone perfection. Bust size exceeds her IQ.
Not sure about that dress for a wedding but it would have been highly appropriate for an after-hours "club" for the high rollers I was taken to in London UK.

Lots of pretty people of both genders (it was a long time so there were still only two back then) and no one blinked at anything. She's have fit right in. I wonder how much her alterations were?

The weed you remember from the old days was about 7% thc , the weed out there now is in the 20-25% thc . It literally makes you temporarily retarded .
People who decide to use pot are already that when they make that decision, before they even put the c**p in their bodies.

I’ve never used it and don’t intend on doing it. I have a SIL that lives on the stuff and she is a complete fricking mess.
I would have been pissed as hell if I would have been there and ate it. I have a cdl and subject to drug testing. Imagine if people lost their jobs because of this?

She followed up to say she cooks/prepares wearing exam gloves; apparently certain types of cannabis are oilier and that can be absorbed through the skin. I can't verify or deny but I think just about any plant can be processed for oils so .....

I don't see my self adding pot or derivatives thereof to a salad, I guess I'll file this under 'probably never going to need'.

I say BS to this hit piece on marijuana.........if ANYTHING was put in the food it was more than THC........ maybe a hard drug which is quick acting.........marijuana just isn't that strong to cause a "dying" feeling.......

Why believe anything in these media reports? The "bride" is shameless so who knows what really sickened these people..........could be a spiked beverage....makes more sense to me.........

There are people whom have no tolerance for the THC and have strong adverse reactions. Not life threatening unless they are driving or operating machinery.
Starter does for edibles is 5mg THC… experienced users go to 10mg... hardcore stoners 15mg. But edibles must be carefully and precisely dosed and consumed deliberately, especially because the “high” takes 1-2 hrs to hit after eating. New users (deliberate ones) will get impatient after eating a dose, not get quickly high, and think they got too little, so will eat another, maybe even another after that. When it finally does hit, look out…. terrible paranoia, puke guts up… and it stays with them for 6-8-10 hrs unrelenting. So if a wedding party eats several doses, maybe even several dozen unknowingly… very very toxic. BUT it must be decarboxilated to be potent in cooking

HOWEVER… adding pot to food is harmless (other than tasting like cat turd) unless it has decarboxilated: heated to 220F for 90 minutes to convert the THC molecule to where it will be absorbed by the body. If not decarb-ed, it will not get you stoned. Granted, some THC will decarb during the cooking process, but if cook temps run to 350, it evaporates the THC.

If you have never partaken and did not know you had and we don't know the strain/thc levels....???
I could see someone thinking something was seriously wrong...you obviously are looking at it through the lens of someone who uses, maybe take a step back and understand that, there are more non users than users and plenty of people who have never been high... ever.

When I was working maaaany years ago, my bosses knew what I felt about any drug use. I ALWAYS got picked to go get drug tested, they had to have one employee to go pee in a cup once a month. I finally said something to my boss, he didn't know the big boss was doing that to me. It stopped. I did/do not imbibe, I made husband go outside if he wanted to get high. He hated having to go outside in the snow. Pretty sad when your work tortures you cause they know that you don't imbibe.
I'm no innocent, I tried it when very young, but just wasn't interested.

Nope. Makes absolute sense. Especially if they put it in everything. The dosage would be very high. Couple that with the alcohol many were drinking, and that makes it worse. If one gets too much cannabis, it can cause vomiting and all manner of terrible.

so many people in the comments section are pointing out the dress, and after having seen the bride, they were not surprised.

not sure if people are going over to the site to see the pictures, so i will post a couple of her in the dress here.

You could tell just by her mugshot she was 99.9% silicone. These pics do nothing but confirm it.

I'm no prude, but sorry. IMHO that's a shameful way for a bride to be dressed considering there are younger as well as older people present. I do totally get that its "YOUR DAY" but its completely disrespectful of the feelings of others present

Tampering with food charge in Florida is a felony with a 30 year sentence. There were 70 or more people that ate the food. If convicted she could face 2100 years in prison. Maybe be out with good behavior after 1000. In any case I don't think she is going any place soon. Certainly not on her honeymoon.

Florida caterer sued for allegedly serving marijuana-laced food at wedding

A Florida bride and her caterer now face felony charges after allegedly lacing wedding food with pot

A woman who attended a wedding in Florida is suing the event’s caterer, accusing her of serving guests food laced with "poisonous" levels of marijuana.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday, Virginia Ann Taylor-Svoboda said she suffered "severe, permanent injuries" after Joycelyn Bryant of Joycelyn's Southern Kitchen Inc. reportedly allowed food to be infused with harmful levels of cannabis.

Taylor-Svoboda’s lawsuit argues she had no idea the wedding’s food contained marijuana, resulting in her suffering from "marijuana poisoning." She is accusing Bryant of negligence, and her lawsuit seeks more than $30,000 in damages.

"(Bryant) knew, or should have known, that allowing the food served by (Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen) to be laced with marijuana was reasonably likely to cause injuries and damages to wedding guests," Taylor-Svoboda’s lawsuit states.

On Feb. 19, a wedding reception turned to chaos after Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived to find guest complaining of feeling "high." One guest told deputies that he felt like he "had drugs inside him" after only consuming food and wine.

When authorities showed up, first responders were already treating several sick guests, and a few attendees were sent to a hospital.

Danya Glenny, 42, the bride, and Joycelyn Bryant, 31, the caterer, both face a number of charges including tampering, culpable negligence and delivery of marijuana.

A female guest reportedly told officials that the food was laced with marijuana. Another guest said that he was feeling "ill and high," according to the report, and that he wanted to press charges against the people responsible for possibly lacing his food.

Samples of food served at the event were sent to a lab for testing. Lab results revealed lasagna and bread tested positive for THC, an active ingredient in marijuana.

Bryant was charged with violating the Florida Anti-Tampering Act, delivery of marijuana and culpable negligence in April, according to the report from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. The bride also faces several charges including tampering with food and delivering marijuana.
