ECON UPS driver told me amazon shipments have been very high for 2-3 weeks

Got a delivery Friday by UPS, and the driver said they've been very busy the past 2-3 weeks with deliveries, notably amazon (from whom I received some saw blades). He said that he though UPS had grossly underestimated the amount of business they would see this Christmas season, based on his observation/experience with deliveries beginning earlier adn heavier than in the past.

I"m just passing this on.

I/we do all our shopping online, and amazon has good prices, and if you subscribe to their prime program, you get free 2 day shipping on a lot of items, through UPS...can't beat it!

Personally, knowing the state of our economy and dollar as I think I do, and this thread reflects many of my concerns:

http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthread.php?439129-FUNG-RED-ALERT%28financial%29-The-Implosion-of-the-Financial-System-is-Gathering-Momentum

I ordered something this morning that I need, and feel (not "think", not "know") that if I am certain that I will need something that I should get it now, converting my dollars into tangible good now. But only for things I know I will need soon.

If I had the funds, I'd convert dollars into longer term needs and income producing properties, but fortunately I don't have that problem to deal with :-)

Not everyone buys Christmas stuff from Amazon. I order from them almost weekly throughout the year. Mostly just day to day stuff, books, and what ever else we need. It has become my go to place. I hate to shop and when I do, the stores never have what I want/need anyway. And I love free shipping!

I avg 2-3 a day! With their subscribe and save program I can prep with 20% off and FREE ship! Plus none of my neighbors are any the wiser, but I'm sure they know we have clean butts since I score 3 cases of TP a month and they come in the original box. LOL:lol:

I've ordered quit a few things in the last few weeks just to stock up before the snow gets out of hand. Then it's too hard on the UPS man to get stuff up the long, drifty driveway. I try not to order in winter, or in a pinch, have it delivered to me at work.

I think UPS is seeing is an uptick in online shopping, at the expense of shopping at brick and mortar stores however.

Don't see any other indications that we are in any sort of sustained economic recovery unfortunately.

Online shopping is an ongoing trend that still has a lot of room for growth.

The business model for brick and mortar stores is rapidly declining in my opinion.

Socialized Medicine just may the nail in the coffin for the average retail store along with a whole host of other government mandates that force retailers to minimize their staff. Toss in state and local taxes and good helping of corporate greed and the future of retail employees is dim.

Many items are now available only online and are not even carried by the same retailer in their stores. I've seen this at Target, Menards and others.

Pretty soon the landscape will be comprised of just gas stations, grocery stores, McDonalds and Starbucks.

Progress?

Yeah, me, too! And the free two-day shipping is great, but if you're REALLY in a rush - you can upgrade to overnight for just $3.99

I'm another Amazon regular. The majority of my purchases arrive in an Amazon box. However, I have a similar situation as yours - instead of the neighbors knowing about clean butts (although anyone who peeks in the garage when it's wide open can see my wall of TP), they can deduce that my bathroom is spiffy clean based on a couple of my subscribe & save deliveries - Scrubbing Bubbles disinfecting spray foam and both SB Fresh Brush flushables & max refillls arrive in original mfr labeled cartons, too. :spns:

No sales tax, free shipping, fabulous pricing on one day/one or two hour deals, regular prices comparable to or better than brick & mortar in most instances, coupons, S&S discounts, no crowds, no going out in inclement weather, no gas expenditure, no wear & tear on the car, shopping any time 24/7 barefoot & braless in my scruffy clothes/nightgown ...

Can't hardly beat that, but I do.

Since I am cash poor & unable to work a regular job any more I have an Amazon affiliated credit card for paying other budgeted expenses (card paid in full each month so no interest) which earns me points to spend at Amazon plus I use rewards programs to garner an avg of $100-$150 a month in Amazon e-gift cards so I don't pay anything but a bit of my already online time each day for most of my purchases! I could earn more but I physically cannot sit at the computer for the extended periods that would entail. FYI though, I'm earning points for AGCs running cooking videos in another browser (speakers off to avoid distraction) even as I type this response. :groucho:
