“According to an official within the Department of Energy, this past Friday, the President-elect’s team instructed the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration and his deputy to clean out their desks when Trump takes office on January 20th,” Gizmodo reports.

“The NNSA is the $12 billion-a-year agency that ‘maintains and enhances the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.’ It’s unclear when the two officials will be replaced.”

“Traditionally, all political appointees of an outgoing presidential administration turn in resignation letters effective on noon of inauguration day, January 20. But appointees in key positions—like the people who make sure our nukes work—are often asked to stay on in their roles until a replacement can be found and confirmed by the Senate, helping ensure a smooth transition and allowing our government to continue functioning. In fact, for the entirety of Obama’s first term and into part of his second, the NNSA Administrator remained a Bush appointee.”

Yep, and leave it to the Democrats with Trump derangement syndrome to try and twist this normal government tradition of political appointees offering their resignations, into more fake news about Trump.
This happens every single time the presidency changes hands but the Dems as usual try to take advantage of the ignorance or their supporters and play it off as "mean Donald Trump"

They offered to resign and Trump accepted. He ordered nothing.

Hopefully, much the same as it turned out to be with the NG General's story about being replaced, this will be a situation where they are being replaced as of 12:01pm on Jan. 20th. This would still ensure a seamless transfer of power.

I'll only be concerned that our bloated government is getting a trimming if it puts our National Security as much at risk as Clinton did with her home server.

Trust me, this is one of the agencies you WANT to keep working (at least for now) but never fear this happens every time a Presidential office change takes place the "deputies" (usually career civil servants) will take over until Trump names a replacement.

If it goes on to long, there can be issues because deputies are somewhat limited in the decisions they can make (or be responsible for if something goes haywire) but this is a non-story; by tradition ALL appointed agency heads and anyone else who serves "at the pleasure of the President" in an appointed position submits a resignation - it is up to the incoming President to accept it or not - in most cases I think Trump is choosing to accept resignation and replace, which is his perfect right to do so.

I read a story this morning on BB that stated they offered to let him stay until the inauguration was complete but he was more interested in getting his 15 minutes of fame in the news pushing a story that is only partially true.

Since our nuke stockpile is so old, I've been feeling lately that if we ever need to use them, God forbid, half of them won't work anyway.

I don't buy the story. NNSA is an agency tied to the hip with the NCA (National Command Authority). Making the administrator and his deputy leave immediately is like asking the Joint Chiefs of Staff get out of the Pentagon the minute Trump takes power.
NNSA is an essential govt. function, Trump won't gut the agency of leadership (no matter how bad or good) the first day he takes office.

He has asked a number of other "Semi-Essential" personnel to hit the road on the 20th..granted as pointed out earlier..career folks will man the fort til new flunkees are found..but, I have to hope he is clearing out what he can, while he can. Like I said, have to hope.

The political appointees have jobs that are primarily administrative in nature.
Do you think that these heads of different agencies etc. never go on vacations for weeks at a time or take some sick days or get laid up in the hospital.
Every single one of these various departments and agencies that you are hearing this fake news about can operate normally for months at a time with the political appointees and even with many of the career service managers gone.
They have standing orders and procedures that cover everything. They have a chain of command 24/7 that is empowered to make any decisions that may be necesary. There are 2nd, 3rd and even 4th people in the chain of command that are fully and legally qualified to direct anything in absence of the agency head.

These stories are being released by the MSM in an attempt to make the ordinary uneducated masses get their panties in a twist and all worried, and in every case tie it all back to Trump.
Don't fall for it.
Every time we see another one of these fake news stories about some "critical" person being dismissed, you should relax and have another drink as one more commie lib Obama supporter is flushed out of the government. Yes the swamp is draining and the libs and MSM are squealing like crazy.

Based on what I know, the non nuclear parts are updated from time to time. I doubt that the fissile materials need replacing.

Given my time in dealing with Federal agencies, I would find it hard to believe that ANY agency could not function with the top two gone. As others have said, more fake news.
