Trump Didn’t Want Disabled Vets Near Trump Tower, Petitioned to Have Them Removed

In a statement following his announcement that he would not be participating in tonight’s GOP debate on Fox News, Donald Trump‘s campaign said, “[He will] host an event in Iowa to raise money for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors, who have been treated so horribly by our all talk, no action politicians.” This morning, Ben Ferguson contrasted that with statements the real estate tycoon made in 1991 and 2004, when he tried to get homeless and disabled veterans kicked off of Fifth Avenue in front of the famed Trump Tower.

Trump is decrying “all talk, no action politicians” now just as he was in the 1990s, though the action he wanted the New York State Assembly to take then regarding disabled veterans was markedly different than the action he is blaming President Barack Obama‘s administration for not taking now. (It should be noted, too, that actions that have been taken by some organizations to aid veterans have turned out not to be all they claim to be.)

In a 1991 letter to the Assembly, he wrote, “While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?”

By “detriment of the city,” the future GOP frontrunner meant “detriment of Trump Tower,” which sits on Fifth Avenue. While it is known as a ritzy shopping district in New York, Fifth Avenue is also the home of dozens of opportunistic street vendors.

Many of them are disabled veterans who are given special licenses by the Department of Consumer Affairs. According to The Daily News, the protections and exceptions extended to peddling veterans date back to the 1890s and were created to give those who were disabled in the Civil War an opportunity to support themselves.

Though previous attempts to relocate veterans to streets where they would make less money didn’t work, Trump was undeterred. In 2004, he wrote to then-mayor and possible future presidential rival Michael Bloomberg, imploring him to help get rid of the wounded warriors on his street.

“Whether they are veterans or not, they should not be allowed to sell on this most important and prestigious shopping street,” he wrote. “The image of New York City will suffer… I hope you can stop this very deplorable situation before it is too late.”

The GOP debate and Trump’s counter-event begin in 10 hours, so get your strongest drinks ready because this topic is sure to come up once or twice or 15 times tonight.

You've got to go back 25 years to get dirt on the Donald? That's a pretty deep rake to pull up this kind of muck, John.

Thanks for starting this thread JFG, although I know you didn't mean it to help. JG....I'm sorry your candidate turned out to be stinky fruit http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showt...eady-Lost-Iowa Just know you're in good company as most of us here have been lied to and spat on by candidates we've voted for. It'll be okay.

Oh come on.. don't get all fluffed up when we see what you're doing.

Just watch your candidate tonight and tweet it to the rest of us who refuse to watch. We'll appreciate your sacrifice.

I'm not going to pick a fight or try to teach the blind how to see. Good luck with your candidate.

Told you so JG.

Maybe Trump will use the donations to give to the street vendors to get them to move. Can't have our vets spoiling the prestige of Trump Towers.

I appreciate all information to study and make my decisions.

Your welcome. I was quite open minded until about a month ago or so. Then the information started to drip out slowly. Now it is a torrent and the more you dig into his books, the more you go "holy *#%!" what a jerk. A man who sleeps with other men's wives while he was married and does not think he needs repentance is pretty damned scary.

And pretty damned Clintonian.

John, you shoulda seen my life before I came to Christ. Not denying his past, and obviously, neither does Trump as you said, "it's in his books." I'm not saying he has changed or is going to change. Only God, not you, knows this. I could state "my" beliefs, but I won't. All I'm saying is, it could have been a martian that landed or Mickey Mouse that had given that same announcement speech about running for POTUS and all the same speeches thereafter, saying basically what I feel, AND having the elites hate and gunning for them, and I WOULD SUPPORT THEM. For me...just for me..."the enemy (who by the way is not a politician and self-funding) of my enemy is my friend"

I know you've fallen for the defense of Cruz’s eligibility and conservatism and Beck’s claim that Cruz is a Christian, so I'm going to be kind to you, knowing it’s gonna really hurt when you wake up and see the truth.

It's a sad situation for vets but what businessperson in their right mind would want mini-flea markets lining the fronts of their buildings? Especially if you have millions and millions invested. I would imagine a lot of customers complained, too.

From your article. He looks like a nice guy. Maybe Trump can fund some to set up shop in front of your house.

Okay. So, if you owned a respectable business, would you want homeless panhandlers squatting in front of it. Trump Towers is an upscale location. How about your home, JG, if you had homeless vagrants in front of it, would you call the police? I am calling you out on this one. I'll let you know that I have personally called the police for this very situation.

Crimeny JG, use your damn head and un-bundle your undies!

You know, despite all this, something hit me.

We're actually having this conversation about MAINSTREAM REPUBLICANS. Not Libertarians, not Constitution Party, not even really Tea Party. But actual, mainstream, Republicans. That might have a chance of winning office.

Am I the only one to find this weird?

So you're saying that he is a special snowflake and he deserves special treatment unlike any other business?

Interesting.....

Perhaps you could apply to work for Duke and Duke also.

This is how and why the good guys keep losing. Cruz couldn't stand up and say, you know, I think it would be best if we come together here. I do not want to do anything that could be challenged and cause us to lose our last chance to right the ship. Boy, I could have at least respected him for it.

Now we have this crap here to night. All I can say is JG and Rand Paul need to get a room, I'm sick of watching these so called good conservative guys dividing or chances of saving our country.

Shameful!

Even in my little city, if people, vets, whoever, set up on the sidewalk to sell things, I am sure the store keepers here would ask them to find another place sell their items. So what is the big deal? Oh, is this just another way to try and take Trump down?

John,
Clearly Trump isn't your favorite candidate (but Ted Cruz appears to be).
I see all the back and forth here vis a vis good guy Trump and bad guy Trump. I am a Trump supporter; but I thank you for bringing out the "dirt". Why? Because it's good info to know. And its nice to see that even in the mess that America is in there is still intelligent, passionate, reasoned and interesting political discourse happening.
Your information may or may not change my opinion of Mr. Trump-but I thank you for bringing out the info.I may or may not agree with you-but I respect your opinions and enjoy the information you put on the table.

So you're saying that he is a special snowflake and he deserves special treatment unlike any other business?

My take on this is that as a BUSINESS MAN The Donald asked to have some homeless vets moved from in front of his upscale business establishment. Now as a private citizen, he has decided to do something about those homeless vets and get them the help they need and have earned. Sorry, I don't see what's wrong.

Remember that that 'note' or whatever that Trump wrote specifically said that it wasn't a matter of veterans or not. It was a matter of panhandlers occupying the sidewalks in a business district. He wasn't apparently concerned with merely his own place, but others as well. I imagine every major city has this kind of problem. I know Nashville did, and now has an ordinance against giving money to panhandlers anywhere near the downtown area for the same reasons Trump spoke about. It's bad for business. The same businesses who pay taxes that often go to assisting the homeless and underprivileged.

No other business man would want that either, IMO.

This^^^ 5th Avenue is akin to Rodeo Drive in Hollywood, or the Mile in Chicago. The shops there are reliant upon the $$$ of the well to do and tourists from all over the planet. Having panhandlers harassing potential customers is a bad thing, some of these panhandlers can get quite aggressive. Oh and an interesting thing an undercover study was done and many of these panhandlers are professionals, i.e., it's a 9-5 day job for them and many of them become quite wealthy from their panhandling and grifting endeavors.

Link to the Veterans charities/orgs that the money raised is actually going to. Trumps charity org is only collecting the donations. It's a pdf so I can't copy/paste it here.
This is for all the doubting Thomas's who had no faith in Donald Trump.

Oh and they raised OVER 6 million tonight for those Charities at the link below ..... ! !

Any person that defends Fox news is deluded. This station, which claims to be conservative is far from it............
Fox is basically an organ of the established political system. The many anchors at Fox have spun any news concerning Trump to their own benefit...truth be damned.

As for you John, you are acting more and more like a very confused individual...if you ARE not confused, sir, then you(as Foothiller states), are a shill.

Personally, I do believe that you should answer my post with an explanation of your own...so 'what say you??????

Wonderful credo, good choice.

The way I see it: anyone that tptb allow in front of their cameras on their MSM stations, getting coverage for the masses to see, is part of the orchestrated drama. This is all a three-ring circus, and staged big-time, even the Megyn Kelly debacle, to give false hope and entertain the "dancing with the stars" and "American idol" fans, which are the majority population. I see it as a great production with many players given their parts and their scripts. TPTB have real leverage in their tactics of "do it, or else..." and I would not want to know what those are...God help us all.

Hope and pray the truth will come out.

Fox period. Anyone see their latest 'entertainment' offering??

Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, this series follows Lucifer, the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. After abandoning his throne and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine and song) -- until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub. For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in Lucifier's soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. Lucifer is faced with another surprise when he meets an intriguing homicide detective named Chloe, who appears to possess an inherent goodness -- unlike the worst of humanity, to which he is accustomed. Suddenly, Lucifer starts to wonder if there is hope for his soul.

Network: FOX

Fox is offering as entertainment now a show which attempts to portray Satan in a positive light....really? This is the entertainment arm of our 'conservative' news network.

Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Abides not in truth and when speaking a lie speaks of his own. This whole network along with the rest of the MSM is corrupt from the top to the bottom.

ring ring ring .... we have a WINNER .... someone that speaks in a logical and practical manner .... it doesn't matter who the **** these people are that are disrupting YOUR business - it's YOUR God damn business and NOT theirs ....

there's a difference between a panhandling & disruptive military vet vagrant harassing Trump's clients and a deadbeat POS like Eric Gardner interfering with the business at a little bodega? .... all the same people involved - NOBODY gets special privileges and NOBODY gets screwed ....

O'Reilly, Beck and the list goes on.

Although I haven't written off Trump by any means, the others just don't satisfy my need to abolish politics as usual.

I do have two marks for my litmus test on a candidate. I don't budge on them either. Or at least I haven't so far in my voting life.
