ALERT Trump Caves To Mexico On Declaring Cartels Terrorists 12-7-2019

It didn't take long for Trump to "defer" to the Mexican Government on whether to declare Mexican Drug Cartels "terrorists."

Donald Trump Backs Down on Plan to Designate Mexican Cartels Terrorists:sht:

President Donald Trump decided Friday not to officially designate Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, deferring instead to Mexico.

“We will temporarily hold off this designation and step up our joint efforts to deal decisively with these vicious and ever-growing organizations!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

The president said that although he was fully prepared to take the tough step against the cartels, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked him not to.

Trump said he liked and respected President Obrador, who has been working with him to help stop the flow of migrants crossing the Southern border of the United States.

President Trump was expected to meet with his advisers on Friday to discuss the designation, which he has been previewing for months.

“All necessary work has been completed to declare Mexican Cartels terrorist organizations,” he confirmed on Friday. “Statutorily we are ready to do so.”

The cartel slaughter of nine American citizens in Mexico last month — six children and three women — prompted Trump to speed up the process.

U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr met with Obrador on Thursday to discuss the president’s proposal, which the Mexican president criticized as “interventionism” and a “flagrant violation of our sovereignty.” Obrador also cited President Obama’s failed gunrunning operation “Fast and Furious” as an example of how the United States only made violence worse in Mexico.

In March, Trump told Breitbart News that he was thinking “very seriously” about the idea.

“It’s psychological, but it’s also economic,” Trump said about the cartels. “As terrorists — as terrorist organizations, the answer is yes. They are.

The designation would allow law enforcement to act swiftly against the cartels as well as target their weaponry and financial resources. The federal government would also be allowed to prosecute friends and family members of the cartels supporting them in the United States, as well as organized gangs such as MS-13.

On TB every waking moment
We will temporarily hold off this designation

And Nixon "temporarily" closed the gold window in 1971....

Yeah, DD I have always regretted being 17 back then and not understanding the implications of what Nixon did for my lifetime. In fact, if you take my high school grad date of June 1972 you can watch the whole of my lifetime being one of general economic collapse here in the USA! OH boy!

Trump says all kind of things. He does so for many reasons. Sometimes just to check out responses. And sometimes as a threat to get some kind of concession from someone. And sometimes just for fun.
In this case he threw that out there and waited for some kind of response. He got something from the President of Mexico. This cost Trump and the USA Nothing. I don't know what he got from Mexico but it was free to us. I would say "Good job Mr. Trump."
If Mexico does not come through with whatever they just promised he can make the same threat again. Or he could even carry through with the threat.
Personally I don't see much benefit to the USA for calling the cartels terrorists. We are never going to do any bombing in Mexico. We are not going to send 'hit squads' into Mexico.

President Obrador asks that we not designate the cartels as terrorist organizations. Sadly, the cartels are Mexico, and I fear what their political power in the US really is.

I don't entirely buy this as a cave in to Mexico's demands.I see this as a weapon to use against Mexico if they stop helping us stem the tide of illegals over the border. If they slow down or stop helping us, Trump ok's this order and we're sending SF A teams into Mexico on search and destroy missions against the cartels. Not to mention the freezing of cartel assets and I'm SURE the Mexican president doesn't want the US to do forensic accounting in that country either.

Actually I think it's a pretty good knife in the drawer, ready to use if the Mexicans screw up on stopping the illegals from crossing the border.

Okay, I understand why he did this. Mexico is currently ACTIVELY interdicting migrants trying to get to the US. I can see him talking to the Mexican president: “Okay, I’ll do what you want as long as you do what I want.”

That actually works for me.

What part of "temporarily" don't you understand??

Let Mexico try to do what they can, then let the USA fix what he can't.

Um, I once took a military oath, back on July 31st, 1973 that said I was to fight all enemies foreign and domestic. Now the way I see it, Trump's declaring the Mexican Drug Cartels as terrorists, wasn't about dropping J-Dam's on their villas in the boonies, although I got no problem with that, but it was really about giving aid and support to the law enforcement agencies engaged in combat, here in CONUS with M-13 gang, which is a freaking TERRORIST GROUP. So, Trump, after waving some resources around, does the usual Trump flip flop. Like with the Kurds and our midnight bail in Syria, and the M-13 people are going to die because Trump shot his mouth off again.

may all be well
AG Barr went down and talked to the pres a couple of days ago.

Trump didn't cave or back down. He's giving the pres a chance to do the right thing. I agree with Afla Man:

Trump has no reason cave to the MX Pres, nor a history of backing down like a eunuch, nor is it his personal philosophy to do so.

If Trump got real concessions from AMLO, then mission accomplished...I guess. Going to war with the Mexico will be something very difficult to do. Making war on the Cartel but not the Mexican will be as difficult to put into practice as the war on the Muslim terrorist and not the Muslim. Still, I would only be for a pause in the Cartel terrorist declaration with 100% proof and action by AMLO.
