Someone close if this is a dupe, but...

I just heard of this on TV in den, and estimates are that this will blow thru Riverside in the next hour-ish.

And the rain is finally back out here too. the big ol' drops kind of rain.

Just heard this on the radio. Can't believe I went out... just got back in and it is insane. Everything is flooded... rain pouring down.

I'm in the path of this tornado from what I can tell. They are telling people to get to shelter now. I'm freaked.

Ok, an update:
Tornado warning lifted for LA county, but not Orange or Riverside county.

A report of a "small touchdown" is Seal beach, one car overturned and one person reported injured.

I am shutting down for about na hour here. This particular cell is scheduled to pass directly overhead in the next 30 minutes, and I am now hearing thunder.

News just said there is "another cell" currently coming onshore from the direction of Laguna Hills, which is also headed for Riverside.

No, this ain't yer Kansas variety of tornado, but like I said, I am shutting down for a bit. No sense losing a computer over it, either.

Back in a bit, if it gets "interesting",

Holy Moly!!! Stay safe you guys! I lived in that area for 34 years and don't ever remember there being a tornado warning

Well, things have improved substantially now and we didn't see any tornados near us.

I know that several have touched down from Seal Beach inward. It looks like the system is on it's way toward Fred and moving pretty quickly.

This storm system was supposed to be the lightest one of the week. We're really supposed to get hammered tomorrow and Thursday.

Grew up in southern CA and I can only recall maybe a handful of times when I heard thunder and never recall a twister; a few, rare water spouts, but nothing quite like this.

Problem in Ca, like here in FL, when a twisters hits the ground, basements are pretty much non-existant.

Disconnect the electronics ........ bring the critters inside...... hunker down in the safest, interior room /closet and BE SAFE!!!

OK, first things first, when you are getting prepped for storm.

lantern, at least one.
water, at least 5 cases, --remember when the power goes off, so does the water.
propane for the bbq grill, so you can cook when power is off.
blankets
plenty of plastic, and duck tape.
food, and more water, can't ever have to much water.
good basement, or storm cellar to get into.

chain saw and fuel for it.
that is almost every thing.
should have frist aid kit.
ALL MEDS FILLED AND UP TO DATE.

Ok, I thought I'd update.

1st of all, thanks for the concern.

Much noise, little damage seems to be the result.

So far, no one has confirmed a touchdown on land. I did see a pic of a waterspout, as this was all beginning that looked to be about 200 ft. across where it met the ocean.

The beach cities, and places up to about 10 mi. inland got a lot of "micro-bursts". Folk back east probably know much better than I what those are. They managed to pick up a full-sized SUV, flip it around and drop it on the ground, near Seal Beach. Also saw houses where the roof was pealed back, right to the plywood, and a few flat-roofed industrial building had their roof collapse.

In San Pedro, the water was amazing. Center of the storm passed over... 15 minutes later there were intersections 4 1/2 ft. underwater. 2 hours later, dry as a bone. One section down there was reporting maybe 15 families are homeless from the flooding.

Long Beach seems to have been hit worse with the flooding. There are gonna be a whole passle of folk filing insurance claims for "under water cars" (Member that flood insurance is cheap, out here, just as EQ insurance is back in Kansas ;)).

Now, I am in Riverside, which is about 50 mi. inland from all this. My last post yesterday came when it was time to shut down. Storm was here, and the thunder was beginning. Even tho the storm dissipated a lot, before arriving we got a good downpour.

This turned to horizontal rain, about 1:30 PST. Then came "rolling thunder" which would last up to 2 min. straight. I'd never hear it like that in Ca. before. Also I've not seen rain this hard, this long here since 1969, so if it keeps up, the earlier predictions we've had are on target.

Momentary power outage here at ~2:00 PM, so shutting everything down was a good idea.

We also have four "Lab-mix" dogs in our household. Yesterday I found out what they are ALL "mixed with"... LAP DOG! At least they were nice enough to share the weight. Wife and I each got to wear two dogs. All of them with that "This is YOUR fault, damnit! Do something!" look on their face.

Daughter's place is another 30 miles inland, so it wasn't much of a storm when it got there. They went and got the kids out of school anyway because, although their 10 acre place is on a nice rise, the road dips shrply at either end so they are often stranded by flooding.

Anyway, no harm, no foul at our place. A lot of folk will be hating their cars this morning. I never did hear a report of a single death. Maybe someone else closer to Long Beach/San Pedro area has more to tell.

Another odd thing. this was a very fast moving storm, for SoCal. This thing went from the ocean, to Barstow in about 3 hours.

Thanks for the update, Fred!

Did I hear right that this type weather is supposed to be going on all week... and this was the "mild" part? Eeeek!

Hi Summer;

Actually today is supposed to be an even worse storm blowing through.

None of the tornado theatrics, I don't think. Then overnight it merges with a fourth storm which is due in, so we are due for rain through the weekend.

They are talking rain up to 1.5 inches per hour today, and the local mountains should get another 2-4 ft. of snow on top of what they have.
