WEATHER Tornado bearing down on OKC

All OKC media, radio and TV, are focused on tornadic storms west of OKC, presently bearing down on El Reno, soon to track across the heavily populated northwest edge of the OKC metro area. They've had video from storm watchers of a multi-vortex tornado, they are saying it is a half mile wide, I-40 east and west bound are closed west of OKC. TV weathercasters are saying get underground or get out of its way, don't try the hide in a close or bathtub deal. I'm watching KFOR, not sur eif they have an online feed or not, http://www.kfor.com/ .

Maybe ANOTHER tornado forming south of the present one, and they were tracking some north of the big storm earlier.

We have the bug out bags in the vehicles, animals rounded up, for a quick dash if necessary to an underground parking garage just up the street from here, thus far it looks like it will miss our neighborhood, we are 24 blocks from downtown OKC.

I'm praying for ya rmwj and I'm so glad you have the furkids gathered and have a location already scouted out just in case it comes your way. V

Thanks for the prayers, the furkids include 2 dogs and 4 cats, the dogs aren't a problem, but rounding up cats can be a problem. Fortunately, I have the house drilled so that when I start the process, everyone helps, since the drill is we don't wait on the cats if we have to run from something in a hurry. So since everyone has their favorite cat, they make a point to make sure they are corralled inside. We have a large dog carrier that they go into for the duration of an "alert", which they don't particularly like, but I think they would like getting left behind even less and it's designed for a big dog so its no great hardship on them other than an affront to their perceived feline right to go anywhere at any time they please. I should also mention that we don't actually have bug out bags, we have bug out buckets -- 5 gallon pickle buckets, actually, got for a dollar each from one of our fave hamburger places, filled with various survival necessities. We also sometimes call them the "camp in a bucket", although a tent is not actually included in one of the buckets, lol.

Traffic jams

Weathercaster is now reporting traffic jams in NW OKC. I am so glad we are all home. I was supposed to go to Weatherford this afternoon, which would have taken me right through this storm, to inspect a new producer for the Oklahoma Food Coop, but I went this AM instead and am glad that I am all my household are home.

Piedmont, Richland, and NW OKC/Edmond are in the bullseye, crossing US 81 right now.

rmwj dieseltrooper be safe...I'm just praying my hubby makes it home before it hits at OKC. He called a few minutes ago and was told to shut the project down on I-40 and head to the office. I have a basement and ready to put the furkids in there carrier. I'm just shaking watching the Channel 4 and listening to David Payne. Everyone else in the pathway my prayers for out for you.

The eeriest sound in the world -- the storm sirens of Oklahoma City are now sounding.

I lived in OKC for a couple years and yes, those sirens are a scary sound, because you know there is something truly evil coming! Stay safe, my prayers are up for all in the path.

Did you see David Payne turn around to bugout and then a power pole flew over his vehicle? It was like a scene out of twister...

Tornado sirens were going off in Oklahoma City and nearby towns as residents hunkered down.

The Weather Channel reported that the twister along I-40 was huge and possibly an EF5 — the strongest tornado category.

The National Weather Service reported one tornado touched down about two miles north of Canton, Okla.

Canton city employee Linda Hisell said police reported a twister moved through the area around Canton Lake, about 70 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Hisell said police reported that some people were inside damaged homes.

The fire department in Chickasha reported a twister touched down near that town as well. NBC affiliate KFOR TV said radar showed a large debris ball in that area.
