I have ongoing back problems, as well.
So far, I've been able to avoid daily meds, but I'm continuing to research what I can take
if things get worse.

So far, I've found that getting active again has been the biggest help. This summer, I was riding my
bike and kayaking. If you had seen me two years ago, you would know what major improvement this is! I could barely get up and down stairs.

But it didn't happen overnight, and our society just doesn't value exercise for the elderly like it could.
Great on you. You must do for you what you can.

That could be. But I’ll take any pain relief at this point.

Dennis, would you mind sharing just what pain you’re experiencing and for which you’re trying the kratom? I know you’ve had a lot of pain after yard work, and you’ve mentioned sciatica.

I‘ve got lots of back issues (mostly structural at this point) with associated muscle spasms, as well as all-over pain from fibromyalgia. My latest surgery got rid of the sciatica, thank God.

Hope the kratom helps you. Chronic pain can destroy your life.

I stopped at my local cbd/vape/kratom store today. It was recommended that I start with trying the green maeng da capsules. Pretty sure he said two caps = 1 gram, but the writing on the label is too small to read. I’ll probably take a couple tomorrow and see what happens.

I may have to look into this. I've been on medical leave for two months because of fibromyalga. I'm at a 3rd pain specialist (physiatris?) because the last Dr said I needed stronger meds than he could prescribe. I spent about three weeks where I went without anything. I got up to 200 MG of Tramadol twice a day and after that ran out I was taking 20 MG of hydrocodone twice a day. When I dropped that the only withdrawal I had was pain. I had two er visits in a two week period, but thankfully they didn't give me any guff.

The new guy seems to be sharp and actually has a plan so we will see how it goes. I should get the new meds (nucynta) tomorrow. If it comes in.

I took Kratom last year for a few weeks. It felt great, but it had a side effect in that it would sometimes make my depressive/anxiety symptoms worse. I felt that I had to stop taking it because of this.

It affects everyone differently, so just use with caution (as with anything). Best of luck on your journey!

Dennis, would you share your Kratom daily regiment? How many Green during the day? How many Red in the evening?

I have this friend...

Have had no experience with it. A very few states where it is illegal and to my knowledge Indiana is one of them.

YOU value it for yourself. That's what counts. Keep it up! Awesome! I'm chuckling to myself as I've addressed this post twice now. Lol

I saw on Amazon they sell Kraton urine detection kits. Kratom is legal? I never heard of it before.

EDIT: I just read it is a schedule 1 narcotic in Indiana.

Low back and hip pain. Left leg and foot are messed up real good. Sciatica.
My grandmother used to use marijuana for arthritis and cancer pain. It worked. Illegal in Illinois back then. She had a tincture made from marijuana and alcohol. It worked for her. When my sister got cancer, a good friend of hers, with cancer, was able to get marijuana from Colorado and she got some for my sister. It helped a ton with the pain. Not kratom, but these things work for chronic pain. My sister passed, but it helped her get through the days.

Its legal in Georgia, but not 15 minutes away from me in Alabama.

I tried it a couple times this last week, in the evenings. Notice some relaxation, but no real pain relief to speak of. Maybe it needs to build up in your system. :shr:

Not giving up yet, and I only have the green to try right now anyway.

No, you don't want it to "build up in your system". It is addictive and the withdrawals are NOT fun.

I caution all who are using/experimenting it to proceed with care. Take a few days off between everyday that you use it.

I was on Vicodin for years and was able to stop that, cold turkey, with no problem.

Kratom? Not so much. It is the ONLY substance I've taken that I went through withdrawals to get off of.

Had part of one of my kidneys removed a couple of years ago. I’d been taking Kratom 3-4 x daily for RA pain instead of the opiates I am prescribed…anyway, one week in the hospital w/o it wasn’t good!

I was on a Dilaudid drip the first 2 days, so I didn’t notice it. The 3rd day they took me off of it and in the middle of the night I started shaking badly and I kinda remember one of the nurses and the doctor saying, “it’s like he going through withdrawals!”

They put me on a morphine drip and after another 2 days, it was over.

I knew it can be addicting, but on the Kratom boards I frequent, many there are former addicts who’ve used Kratom to get off of opiates, Heroin, OxyContin, Suboxone etc.

Many of them have said that the withdrawals from Kratom is much easier than the opiates…But I’d rather use a natural pain killer than synthetic, highly addictive opiates…especially when/if I’m ever forced to get off of it cold Turkey.

I also take it for 2 other medical conditions rather than the synthetic alternatives with all of the documented side effect they have…with Kratom, I don’t have any…so :shr:

Bev... I don't know how much you are taking, but a couple of capsules won't do it. I've taken 4 grams as an effective dose for at least 5 years..l hubby finds 3 grams works for him. Too many people think of it like taking a couple of pain pills, but plain kratom powder is just ground up leaves- it's very weak, and takes quite a bit of volume for effectiveness.

I think every one is different. My mother is very hypersensitve to meds and is allergic to sulfur meds. My dad has the opposite problem, he builds up a resistence so quickly that he might as well not be taking anything yet he still have the side effects, especially gut related ones.

I never know which way I am going to swing. I have a high pain tolerance but as I age I've discovered that it is not always a good thing because when the pain does hit, I'd rather take a nap on the other side of the cemetery sod.

There has been some discussion of my parents using Kratom or similar. They are concerned that it will exacerbate my father's dementia symptoms and they just don't know how Mom will react and she'd have to get off her other meds before she can start something new.

Man this stuff sucks Bigfoots left big toe.

Just reading back through this thread...wondering if any success reports back from people trying kratom for first time? I live rather rurally, don't have a shop to go to to check it out and talk with sales person. This thread mentions a few websites, are there any other recommendations for best sources? I am wanting to try this for chronic shoulder pain and would appreciate where my best options to buy might be, thanks

I use the Red Vein have for 8 years. Just received my capsule maker today and 5000 gel caps. I am buying up the powder now. Have bought premade capsules for years but its too expensive now when powder is a fraction of the cost.
I use KratomUSA.com and have for years.
See last sentence in quoted post. Happened to be reading this thread because you bumped it.

I took physical delivery of my silver yesterday. On the other side of the shop is a kratom/CBD seller. I decided to ask about their kratom, and why the stuff I got a couple years ago did nothing for my pain. So after engaging in a 15 minute discussion, I decided to buy an ounce of a strain they recommended for chronic pain. I took it this morning before leaving for work and I feel fantastic! Still have stiffness but no pain. It’s the first time in five years that I’ve been pain free. I think the strain was maeng da or something like that. The green one.

I just had to share.
Told you so. The red ones are awesome for pain too. If you find a tincture source let me know.

Good to know! Thanks Dennis. I've got some in the medicine cabinet for "just in case". Need to take a look and see what one I have. Trying to stock up on things I think I'll need in the "future"....just in case.

I ended up trying Red Maeng Da while I was waiting for the Dr's meds and it worked quite well. The taste was absolutely awful, but between tea and lots of sugar I was able to choke it down.

I bought it in capsules, about a penny each more. No taste. Pleasent Green Bali Supreme and Red Relief blend.
Bought twice from greenleafkratom.com It has been a while since we used it. Summerthyme's ouch ointment minimizes that pain now.
