I grabbed the video from youtube, isolated the bit with Summer and stabilized it. I really don't get any information from it. She could be asleep. The scene isn't long enough to see that she isn't shaking with car movement, for example, or breathing. Just no data there.

Why milk jugs? Did they stop at a store on the way home? Were they full and cold, or were they empty and happen to be white? It appears to be white plastic. So if it's not fresh from the store, it might not even be cold. Maybe water or juice carried along for the swimming trip. As said, kids will sleep anywhere.

I don't know what a drowned kid should look like. To me, that just looks like a sleeping kid. Her face is composed. Mom might have put the zippered jacket on her if she was still in a wet swim suit.

My kids were always wrapping up in a towel after swimming and cold and not sure if they had AC in the car.

Sleeping on milk cartons in a car with a jacket does not seem weird to me. Who said she went underwater for a minute? There is a thing of kids silently drowning. Who said she went swimming the day she went missing and who said there was a teenage boy drinking with the mother. As a mother, the alarm going off for me if that is a teenage boy and not the grandmother, is why is he filming her or even caring about her and why would a teenage boy go swimming with an old lady and little kid and is he well known to the family and there is the danger, boy around your daughter.

I have been following this case since it happened. Some observations….
1. Estimated 12-20 dogs on the property, yet a perp came in the back door and snatched her? Dogs would have been alerted and barked.
2. Candis the mother is suspicious as hell. And her story has changed several times. But that being said if Summer Wells went into the house and the boys saw her, and she was gone a few minutes later then that rules out the mom and grandma.

lots of videos on YouTube.

If you listen closely, whoever is videoing asks (weirdly?) If "her arm is still up", and when told "no", then says (quietly), "that's the shot I wanted to get" (or something similar).

I don't really see anything in the video to be alarmed about, but I don't believe a word the parents have said.

Kind of on a tangent, but when this case was first posted here, a huge flag went up hearing that her name is Summer and she disappeared right before the summer solstice. I saw someone on y/t refer to her as Summer Moon. Is that her full name? Just watched the Sloan lady in the video above, and she's picking up "elite deacon" All kinds of horrible things going through my mind. :( Sure hope this case can be solved quickly.

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – It’s been nearly a month since a statewide AMBER Alert was issued in Tennessee for 5-year-old Summer Moon-Utah Wells. Wells’ parents reported her missing the evening of Tuesday, June 15 when she disappeared without a trace from their Hawkins County home in rural Northeast Tennessee.
From family members to investigators, here’s a look at some of the people in Summer’s story so far in the search for the five-year-old Rogersville girl as the investigation into her disappearance continues.

The five-year-old Rogersville girl was reported missing the evening of Tuesday, June 15 when she disappeared from her home on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek community.
Summer is 3 feet tall with blonde hair, cut short, and blue eyes. Her parents say she loved to play princess but is very much a tomboy who keeps her brothers in line.

Her mother described Summer as “the boss of the family.”
The five-year-old was reported to be barefoot and wearing a pink shirt and gray shorts before she went missing.

Wells has stated he was at work on the afternoon of June 15
He first spoke with reporters on June 18, sharing what his wife, Candus Bly, told him their daughter was doing before her disappearance.

“She was planting flowers with her mother and her grandmother and she wanted to go into the house, so my wife watched her go into the door and she went into the house,” Wells said. “And the boys were on the internet of course, and she wanted to go downstairs and play with her toys. So, when her mother [came] in and she says, ‘Summer’ and she went down into the basement and she didn’t answer. So, she went down there, and she was gone.”

Wells believes his daughter may have been kidnapped
“Some bad person grabbed her, but we have no idea,” said Wells. “The FBI and the police have covered every single place, everything that anybody can think of, they’ve covered.”
He reiterated that belief in a June 28 interview, “I knew right away that she was abducted.”
Wells said his biggest fear is that Summer is being tormented somewhere.

Wells had a protective order filed against him in 2020
In October 2020, Wells’ wife Candus filed for a protective order against him, stating in court documents that she was “afraid for my children and myself.”

An arrest warrant obtained by News 2 states that a Hawkins County deputy had responded Oct. 14, 2020, to the home where Donald Wells lived with his wife and four children, including Summer, for a report of a domestic assault.
| Subscribe to News 2 emails for updates on the Search for Summer Wells

He was arrested and booked into the Hawkins County jail on multiple charges, including domestic assault, possession of a handgun while under the influence, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The Hawkins County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office confirmed Wells pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a handgun while under the influence but added the domestic assault and unlawful possession of a weapon charges were dropped in April 2021.
Wells spoke with Nexstar’s WJHL about the charges and protective order, saying that he had been in Utah and that he and Bly “weren’t on the same page” due to lack of communication.

“We worked it out, she’s apologized to me. She went to the district attorney, she even talked to the judge and told him that she made a serious mistake and, you know, that’s the end of it,” Wells said. “She didn’t get hurt and I never hurt nobody, so.”

Wells’ previous charges date back to 1990
In addition to Tennessee, Donald Wells has faced previous charges in Utah and Arkansas.
In Arkansas, Wells was charged with possession of controlled counterfeit substances without a prescription and burglary between 2006 to 2007.

Information obtained by Nexstar’s KTVX shows that Wells faced multiple charges in Utah from 1990 to 2001. He was charged with attempted aggravated assault, interfering with a public servant, forgery, burglary of a dwelling, and theft.
When asked by WJHL if he would like to address his criminal history Wells said, “It’s in the past, and we’ll leave it there.”

Candus Bly: Summer’s mother

Bly was planting flowers with Summer before she disappeared
On June 28, Bly spoke about her daughter’s disappearance for the first time on camera, nearly two weeks after Summer was first reported missing.

“Me and my mother and her were planting flowers, and we went in after we got done washing our hands, and [Summer] got a piece of candy from grandma,” Bly said. “[Summer] wanted to go back over and see her brothers, and I said, ‘OK,’ and I walked her all the way over to the porch, and I watched her walking into the kitchen where the boys were watching TV.”

Bly said she asked the boys to watch their sister and that she would be right back. “Within two minutes, I came back, and I asked the boys where their sister was, and they said, ‘She went downstairs, mom, to play with her toys in the playroom.”
Summer’s mother recalled yelling downstairs for the 5-year-old a few times but never heard back from her, which Bly said was unusual for her daughter. “I went down there to check, and she was nowhere in sight.”

Bly also believes Summer was abducted
Bly has stated she is certain Summer did not wander away from their home, “I feel in my heart that somebody has came up here and took her, has lured her away from here.”

She said she’s scared that somebody is hurting her daughter. “Whoever has my daughter, I pray and hope that they have not harmed her and they bring her back to us safe and sound.”

Bly says she, Summer, and a family friend went swimming on June 15
She posted a video of Summer swimming to her TikTok page on June 15, the day her daughter was first reported missing. Bly said they, along with a family friend, were swimming for around 20 minutes while waiting to pick up a prescription for her mother.
Bly added they then returned home in the afternoon but was not certain how many hours passed from the time they returned home and when Summer disappeared.

“You know, I really can’t tell you all the time details, because time gets away from you when you’re trying to enjoy yourself,” Bly said during a June 28 interview.

Bly passed a polygraph test, according to Wells
Donald Wells told WJHL, on Tuesday, June 22 that Bly had passed a lie detector test after going to the district attorney’s office.

Bly, along with Summer’s grandmother and two of her brothers, attended a prayer circle organized by the Kingsport community on July 6. They did not want to be interviewed but said they are thankful for all the prayers and support.

Candus Harer: Summer’s grandmother
Harer was also planting flowers with Summer
Harer stays in a camper on the property. According to Bly, Summer’s grandmother was also planting flowers with them on the day of the young girl’s disappearance.

In a written statement released on June 25, Harer commented on the night of Summer’s disappearance.

“Bring my grandbaby home. She is a lovely baby, and we’re so thankful for everyone looking for her. We yelled and looked for her as much as we could. She’s just gone. It’s devastating.”

Josie, Wyatt, and Waylon: Summer’s brothers
All three brothers were home the night Summer disappeared
Josie (12), Wyatt (11), and Waylon (9) were in the house the night of June 15, according to their mother.

Bly said she played with her brothers all the time, especially Waylon. “He misses his sister so much because he played with her all the time,” said Bly. “He was, I think, one of her favorites.”
During her June 28 interview, Bly said the last few weeks had been “devastating” and “heartbreaking” for her sons.

Investigators in Summer Wells search
Leslie Earhart: Tennessee Bureau of Investigation

Earhart is TBI’s Public Information Officer. She has stated during media briefings that the circumstances leading to Summer’s disappearance remain unclear.

During a June 24 briefing, Earhart said they couldn’t discuss everything in the case. “In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, we can’t discuss everything we are doing, and have done, to find Summer.”

Tim Coup: Incident Commander

The Incident Commander of Ground Search in the Summer Wells case is Church Hill Rescue Squad Captain, Tim Coup.
In a June 27 release, Coup stated crews are “scaling back search operations.”

Coup said the search efforts would continue on a more specialized team basis as needed and directed from local, state, and federal agencies.

Ronnie Lawson: Hawkins County Sheriff

(Source: WJHL video)
At a June 24 briefing, the Hawkins County sheriff has addressed the mental, emotional, and physical toll the search had been taking on the crews, but that they would continue. We’re gonna find Summer.”

During the same briefing, he stressed reaching out to officials with important information, rather than relying on social media, “I know there’s a lot of social media [posts] going on out there – but they are absolutely useless unless these people, that are 100% positive, call 1-800-TBI-FIND, that means nothing.”

Though operations have been scaled back, Lawson said Hawkins County detectives and agents of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are continuing to check every possible lead.

Others
David Dotson: Family friend
david-dotson.jpg
Photo: WJHL
Dotson attends church with the Wells family and told WJHL he was called to their home on the night Summer went missing.
He also described a nightly ritual that he does as he prays for Summer’s safe return, “I sit out at night as the sun sets, and I play a song for Summer.”

Dotson took Summer’s brothers to play putt-putt late last month to help lift their spirits.
“I took them to the putt-putt golf course here in Kingsport, just to try to let them have a peaceful day away from the search and rescue teams going on their property and the agents coming up.”

He was also in attendance at the July 6 prayer circle. While the family didn’t speak that night, he did.

“The family, they need that support…a lot of negativity has been said and it affects the mother, the father, and the children and we just want to focus on getting Summer back. That’s the main thing,” said Dotson. “From speaking with Candus and Don, the boys…obviously they just want Summer back and they just want her safe…returned back and just keep on praying.”

Timmy Etherton: Prayer circle organizer
Etherton is a member of the Kingsport community and is the one who organized the July 6 prayer circle members of the family attended.

“God put this on my heart to bring the community together and pray as a team. I know people on Facebook have been praying too but I just don’t feel that’s enough,” said Etherton. “I also want to pray for her family as well. Just pray for Candus, and the boys and Donald because they need it too, just as Summer does.”

Etherton said he is planning to host another prayer circle soon and hopes more churches and people can become involved.
“We all should come together because it says in the Bible, in Matthew 18:20, Jesus said himself where two or three are gathered in his name, there he is also.”

Rose Marie Bly: Candus Bly’s missing sister
Rose Marie Bly: Missing Person

Candus Bly’s sister, Rose Marie Bly, has been missing since 2009, but investigators say there is no evidence that indicates the two cases are connected.

According to the FBI, Rose Marie was last seen leaving her residence in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, on Aug. 21, 2009. Five days later, her vehicle was found in a tractor-trailer parking lot 30 miles from her home.

Bly said she was between Arkansas and Tennessee at the time of her sister’s disappearance, “I don’t know all of what happened or what did happen. But I hope that they find her too and bring her home safely, too.”

Donald Wells also spoke with WJHL about his sister-in-law’s missing person case.
“She disappeared without a trace, they haven’t found anything, they haven’t found a body, nothing. When you see cases like that, that’s why I lose hope in Summer, you know, I want to keep hope, but sometimes I just…lose hope and I think, ‘well, maybe we’ll never see her again.”

‘Potential Witness’
Investigators are still looking for the driver of a red or maroon Toyota Tacoma with a full bed ladder rack that was in the area around the time Summer disappeared. The TBI stresses that the driver is a potential witness, not a suspect.

“The pickup is possibly a 1998-2000 maroon or red Toyota Tacoma, with a full bed ladder rack along with white buckets in the truck bed,” a June 26 TBI release states.

Bly spoke about the search for the truck at the end of June. “I wish they would come forward and explain themselves. If you’re not a suspect, at least come forward and say what you’ve seen.”
While Summer’s parents believe she was abducted, TBI maintains the circumstances surrounding the girl’s disappearance remain unclear and investigators have not ruled out foul play.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office at 423-272-7121 or the TBI at 800-TBI-FIND.

Wells said his biggest fear is that Summer is being tormented somewhere.
Someone kidnapping your child is not the first thing that runs through your head when you can't locate your child, especially in an area where there are woods nearby. That he brings up "Summer being tormented" is laying the groundwork for 'explaining' any injuries if/once Summer is found.

“I feel in my heart that somebody has came up here and took her, has lured her away from here.”

She said she’s scared that somebody is hurting her daughter. “Whoever has my daughter, I pray and hope that they have not harmed her and they bring her back to us safe and sound.”
Same for the mother.

This doesn't ring true. Wonder how far from the house they were planting flowers. Who at home walks their child anywhere? If the child can handle verbal instructions, you just tell them they can go.

The cops are giving them rope. There's someone else involved, perhaps, and they're waiting for the perps to refresh the connection. I'm betting the cops know the story pretty accurately.
I know, but jeez! At least you know she's in a much better place if they killed the little tyke. At least she didn't grow up to be a predator herself. This stuff just rips my heart out.

Paulides brings out an interesting thing about these three missing girls and that is if you map out where they went missing it is in a straight line; one was 1957, one was 1962 and now Summer in 2021. The one in '62 was five miles away from Summer's home and the one in 1957 was fifty miles away from Summer's home. Odd, huh?

Watch now: 'I'll see her in the resurrection': A month later, Summer Wells' dad has little hope for her recovery
ROGERSVILLE — Nearly a month after 5-year-old Summer Wells disappeared from her rural Hawkins County home, her father has all but given up on ever seeing her alive again.

Wells spoke with the Times News on Monday about how his family has been coping with the loss of Summer over the past four weeks, outside influences such as social media and the need to continue living their lives.
Wells was at work at the time of Summer’s disappearance on the evening of June 15.
Summer’s mother, Candus Wells, and three brothers reported to police that Summer was last seen on June 15 around 5:30 p.m. going into the basement of their home on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek community of Hawkins County.

Donald Wells has believed since day one that Summer was abducted from their home.

He said that belief was confirmed fairly quickly by search dogs that picked up her scent in the back yard and followed a “dog trail” through the woods that ended at Ben Hill Road.

“We’ve had several people sneaking around there, but we’ve had them sneaking around at night,” Wells said. “We’ve never had somebody up there at 5:30 in the afternoon that we know of. They didn’t come up the driveway. They came up a dog trail from the woods. The (police K-9) dog that they used, that’s where the scent took them. Down through the woods, not the driveway. At Ben Hill Road is where the dog’s scent ended. I already knew all that, but that just confirmed it for me.”
Wells added, “It’s real discouraging. Only God can turn this around at this point. … The police can’t come up with anything. All these people on Facebook all over the world can’t come up with anything. Nobody can. Only God can. Somebody was either hiding in the weeds there waiting for her to go in the basement. They (her mother and brothers) weren’t 30 feet away when she got gone.”

KTN: How is your family coping a month later?
Wells:
“My wife isn’t doing too good. She’s pretty upset. She has some anger issues, and all this stuff on social media. … Right now she’s so tore up, and it’s just getting worse for her. It’s bad for me, too. I’d do anything to have my baby back. I’ve got to put my faith in God. If it wasn’t for that, I’d have lost it a long time ago

KTN: How are your three sons doing?
Wells:
“They’re coping with it OK. I don’t know why, but they’re dealing with it OK. They’re doing a lot better than me and Candus are. Maybe my kids are looking at it like, maybe God will bring her back. I don’t know. Statistically speaking there’s a good chance she’s already dead. I hate to think that. I love her with all my heart. If nothing else, I’ll see her in the resurrection. As long as I keep the commandments and do what I’m supposed to do, I’ll see her.”

KTN: Any concerns about sending your sons back to school?
Wells:
“We don’t have a choice. We were sending them down to the school bus (stop on Beech Creek Road) by themselves, but I don’t think we’ll ever do that again.”
Wells stated that the family is attempting to return to some semblance of normal life. He said, “I’ve made up my mind not to let Satan win.”

KTN: How do you do that?
Wells:
“Not let him get me down. I could be down and not go back to work and let it affect me in every way. But I can’t do that. I’ve still got to move forward. I’ve still got to go to work. I’ve still got to try, even though I miss her. We live in an evil world. I’m not the first one to lose a family member. All sort of tragedies have happened since the beginning of creation. There’s been all kinds of bad stuff going on.”
He also stated that despite past issues with alcohol, “I’m not going top let Satan convince me to go drinking.”
Wells: “I’m not going down that road. I choose life. I choose God. Before in my life I was weaker, and just the least little thing would be an excuse to go get drunk. Not no more. This is the most horrific thing I could have even thought of happening.”

KTN: Has your theory about what happened to Summer changed?
Wells:
“No. She’s been abducted in my mind, 100%. I know Candus wouldn’t lie to me about any of the facts. She has no reason to, and she wouldn’t lie.”

KTN: How did lie detector tests play into the investigation?
Wells:
“At first I didn’t get no sleep for two days. I couldn’t sleep for two days. It was the worst misery and pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I wasn’t able to take a lie detector test. They made me wait a little bit, but when I did take it I passed. They made Candus wait five days longer to take hers. She just wasn’t able to. She tried and she wasn’t able to. People are saying we failed and we took another test. That’s not the case, so when we did take them we both passed.”

KTN: Did they ever do any questioning of your sons?
Wells:
“They took them into specialists because they couldn’t come out and question them. But yes, they have questioned them. They also gave my mother-in-law a lie-detector test, and she also passed.”

KTN: Is social media still affecting your family?
Wells:
“Somebody made a fake (social media) account with me, and then they put on there that I buried some other woman’s body at the lake. So the TBI has been at the lake looking for her body. It’s just ridiculous what people are doing. And these psychics, and what they’re saying and doing whatever they can to get their story out there. The Bible says clearly it’s an abomination. When you’re with a psychic and you think you’re talking to your dead relatives, that’s untrue. Jesus made it clear that when you die you sleep until the resurrection. You have no conscious state whatsoever. So if you’re talking to somebody, it’s an evil spirit.”
Wells said the past month has been like a bad dream, but he is hanging on to his memories of Summer
Wells: “We had such a great love for each other. She loved me, and I don’t know why. I’ve never had someone love me that much in my life, and it’s been awesome between me and her. It really has killed me since she’s been gone. At first it was so horrific knowing that someone abducted her, and the cops are looking all around our house knowing that she’s not there. I wish the cops would have blocked off both ends of Beech Creek and contained our area because I’m sure she’s hundreds of miles away. I can’t blame them, but I’m really upset. It’s too little too late now.”
Summer stands 3 feet tall, and she is 40 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing gray pants and a pink shirt and might have been barefoot.

Anyone who has seen Summer or has information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office at (423) 272-7121 or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

“Afraid for my children,” Summer Wells’ mother states in dismissed order of protection against child’s father

On April 21, 2021, investigators said the charges of domestic assault and unlawful possession of a weapon were dismissed.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Officials with the Hawkins County Sherriff’s Office said the father of missing 5-year-old Summer Wells was arrested in 2020 on domestic assault charges.

According to police reports, Donald Wells was arrested on October 14, 2020, and charged with domestic assault, possession of a handgun while under the influence and unlawful possession of a weapon following an domestic incident with Summer Wells’ mother Candus Bly.

Deputies were dispatched to Ben Hill Road in Oct. 2020 after receiving reports of a domestic assault. When deputies arrived on the scene they located Donald Wells behind the wheel of a vehicle.

A stop was conducted in the driveway and Wells was detained. Deputies said Wells was stumbling and had a strong odor of alcohol. Wells told deputies he had a black powder pistol in the vehicle and revealed he was convicted of a felony in Utah.

Deputies spoke with Candus Bly who said Donald Wells came home drunk and saw a man in the house. According to the police report, Wells started to argue with the man and had a “struggle” with Bly. According to reports, Bly was pushed down during the incident causing damage to her knee.

Bly said Wells then began punching himself in the face and left the home.

Deputies took Wells into custody and booked him into the Hawkins County Jail.

One day after the incident, Candus Bly filed for an Order of Protection against Donald Wells.

In the order of protection, Bly stated that Wells, “drinks and throws things.” She went on to state she was, “afraid of being hurt” and claimed Wells was abusive mentally and physically.

“I am afraid for my children and myself,” Bly wrote in the order of protection. “My mother fears he is going to hurt her.”

Four days later, on the date of Donald Wells’ hearing, Bly asked for a dismissal of the order of protection.

On April 21, 2021, the charges of domestic assault and unlawful possession of a weapon were dismissed. Wells did however plead guilty to possession of a handgun while under the influence.

About a week after this happened, having seen photos of the family and watching a couple of YouTube videos, I became curious about the brothers' ages. I wondered in a comment of a YouTube video about their ages (I now know the oldest boy is 12) and if they had any friends in the area that were two to three years older than the brothers that might come by from time to time to play video games. Just looking at those three brothers, I felt they had an older friend or neighbor, still a relatively young teenager under the age of 16, that might be involved -- and then we hear about mama's boy toy.

I also am wondering if Summer actually ever left that house after she went down to the basement playroom to play with her toys. I know there is a backdoor she could have left from or been taken out of, but that backdoor may have also let someone in, either just before she went down or shortly after she went down. I am assuming they have checked out that basement and the substructure very well, but I keep thinking she never left that house.

Praying she is found and whoever the culprit or culprits are that they get their just rewards.
