CHAT Time Wounds All Heels (My Last Watch)

The most attention grabbing one of my watches is my $179 Timex, which is “inspired” by the Rolex GMT Master.

This too shall pass.
One of my great-grandmothers couldn't wear a watch -- they quit working within hours whenever she put one on. And this was way before electronics -- she died almost a hundred years ago (stories got passed down by my grandmother). I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on why some people affect watches the way they do?

I put the Rolex in the safe a long time ago... now after a whole gob of Seikos and such I bought a Wenger 1000m diver, that and a nitrile rubber band and I'm set... I also bought another of the Wenger 1000m diver with a metal band for backup... both are battery powered, but there's always the automatic Rolex...

With so many fakes out there, and a major portion of the world doing cells for time, I would say half the 'expensive' looking watches aren't and you have people with ridiculously expensive watches walking around not attracting any notice except tby other watch aficionados.

I have Suunto Core watches I paid 30-60 dollars at junk shops that run 200+ new attract more attention than one of my $3k manual/autos.
Yeah, the bling young gang members and wannabes seem to care about are flashy rims, and huge gold chain necklaces. I dress in shabby old clothing, and carry a battered canvas satchel. The last thing anyone is going to look for is a nice watch under long sleeves.

Re: phone as a watch. I leave my phone home or in my car as often as possible, so a watch is necessary at times.

I have Tracfone, something else no one is really interested in stealing.

For those people with mechanic watches losing or gaining time, read your Rolex manual. TLDR, depending on which way around you place it on your night stand you can adjust the watch:

Interesting!

I'm a one watch at the time person, not a watch a day guy. At 45mm this one is bigger than any I've ever had before, but I'm more blind than I ever have been too (even if the date window is kinda small). And it's shinier than I would have preferred, but it is what it is. At least it's stainless steel. I just hope it is as bulletproof as it is said to be, and it outlasts me. I tend to be hard on watches.

I haven't worn a watch since I was on active duty.

The only safe band was full velcro with cover flap.

A regular band wasn't safe for crawling around on tracks

th

I probably need to get another watch and tuck it in a safe place.

Even today, it would be a hindrance and safety hazard with work.

Design of This Watch

Every rescue mission in Germany to which emergency doctors are dispatched is a race to save lives and against time. For the 'golden hour' and 'platinum ten minutes' are decisive in determining the course of action taken.

This means that a patient should arrive at the hospital within an hour of an accident and that a critical patient should be treated and transported within the first ten minutes.

A count-up inner rotating bezel allows emergency doctors to constantly keep an eye on the specified time frames, while a countdown outer rotating bezel enables the exact times for administering medication to be monitored.

The seconds hand is designed in the shape of a rotor and features an integrated pulse scale which enables easy recording of the heart rate every 15 seconds. The EZM 12 is designed so that emergency personnel are equipped with a high-performing tool that will contribute to saving lives.

Another special feature of the EZM 12 is the easy to clean watch bezel and strap. The silicone strap can be removed without the use of tools, while the rotating bezel may also be removed using a large screwdriver for cleaning.

Finally, Sinn has integrated the copper sulphate capsule into the crown and has incorporated orange ceramic on the outside surface area of the crown.

Other Features of the Sinn EZM 12

  • Case made of fully Tegimented bead blasted stainless steel
  • Bezel with black PVD/DLC coating which is Tegimented
  • Ar-Dehumidifying Technology enhances reliability and prevents fogging
  • Magnetic field protection to 80,000 A/m
  • Count-up inner rotating bezel for quick reading of the 'platinum ten minutes' and 'golden hour'
  • Countdown outer rotating bezel
  • Pulse rotor with pulse rotor scale for measuring heart rate
  • Sapphire crystal glass
  • Functionally reliable from -45 to +80 degrees Celsius
  • Water resistant to 200 meters
  • Hours, minutes, seconds, date and day displays
  • Brand new crown system which incorporates the copper sulphate capsule
  • Completely flat case back with no ridges to facilitate cleaning

My everyday was a 17j Seiko 5, which I still have, but after having a few close calls with it I sort of upgraded back in the 00s with a Casio Tough Solar Waveceptor that after all of these years I need to replace the band on, otherwise it's still good to go.

About eight years ago I picked up a Casio Duro on sale. I just got the battery changed for the second time a week ago. I've had it mistaken for a Submariner on more than one occasion even though it's on a resin strap (2nd one). One particular time at work, a visitor who was sporting a Tag Heuer Aquaracer was looking at it on my wrist with some confusion that went into full WTF?!?! overdrive when I just slipped it off and handed it to him to get a good look at.

My non-daily watches are an old gold filled 17j Omega I picked up at a pawn shop long ago and a Tag Heur 2000 Professional I picked up in the mid 90s on sale at a closing jewelry store I was walking by. I've also got a 17j steel cased Benrus from the 1960s I picked up, again at a pawn shop, long ago that needs to be serviced.

DH has Casio G Shock that has worked well for years. One day in the sun and it keeps a charge for ages.
I bought one of those a few years ago. I'm one of those who can get years of use for any battery operated watches. So I'm expecting this one to last for quite a while. Let's hope so because that was the most I've ever spent on a watch.

For Thursday, we’re going tactical black plastic: G-Shock and Walther PPS. Light weight, black and sturdy:

The Sinn EZM 12 has spent a lot of time as my daily wear over the last two years. It was a birthday gift from the wife. I try to rotate which watch I wear to give even love to mostly the ones the wife has given me. Neither of us are jewelry people with the exception of watches since they have a practical application to them.

Threads like this give me a good reason to poke in the corners of my collection and rediscover some old friends.

I don't wear a watch anymore. Not since my near miss with the grim reaper. I have all of my old watches in a box.

Time just doesn't seem to matter to me much anymore.

With a Guttersnipe, too. Cool to see one again!

That one was a hell of a find. The gunsmith at the gun store I frequent asked if I was still looking for one, they had one come in on a trade. Three of the ASP mags, the leather mag holder, and the original lexan translucent grips. I asked him hesitantly what damage it would do to my wallet.

since there is no actual “ASP” marking, the shop bought it from the owner as a S&W as it started out life as. So they probably paid $300, and I got it from them for $500 out the door. The magazines usually go for $150-200 at the time.

Only ever had one watch that lasted more than a few weeks-don't even remember the Brand. Just some Modern Digital-faced plastic thing that had backlight. Band broke afte three days of pocket carry-I was on a Motorcycle and did not want to risk it coming off when riding.

Had it when I was homeless and doing rent-a-drunk work so it spent a lot of time in my jeans pocket wet and dirty or at camp in the heat/humidity and rain.

Had to have something with specific time in order to notoversleep for work.

Otherwise I just go outside-generally I can tell what the time is by the Light.

Otherwise I just sing.
