5ft 11, 240, no significant orthopedic issues except bad knees, occaisional lower back ache - probably normal for age.
I spend about 8 hrs or so / day in my chair but sporadically
Any suggestions?
Anything to avoid?

A place you mIght consider is a State Auction. I got several filing cabinets and my current office chair for under $50 total. They are not Ikea Cabinets either. The chair is/was fine-I've had it for ten years and t was used-time to replace it now but you can find some good stuff with a bit of diligence. We have the actual auction warehouse locallish and they have a website as well. Trust me-you are a flyweight compared to some of the Cows that sit in them "working" for the State.

I have found higher chairs help a lot. i have 3 stepstools i sit on a lot and an office chair that has adjustable height.

When I was younger, I watched the movie 'The Over the Hill Gang'. Now, like many of us, I am now living it. It's an enjoyable movie if you haven't seen it.

Bravado, via typed messages, appear to be the only thing us 'oldsters' have left. I'm trying to remedy that, but can still see the crest of the hill up close and personal no matter how hard I try to stay on the younger side of the crest.

That's why I'm trying to pass on my 'knowledge' to those younger in my direct vicinity.

Griz,

Some of the gamer chairs are very durable due to the amount of use they are subjected too.

I buy big men's chairs from Staples or Office Depot being 6-3 and in the 230's and wear a size 54 coat. I use the chair hours and hours per day. These chairs have higher backs and more padding in the seat and back. Always try the chair before you buy one for each chair will fit you differently.

There is a used office furniture place near me. I went over there mid last year and they had nothing. I said to the guy wats up? He replied the public found us during the Rona and they sold out of anything that would fit in a home office.
They only had massive office pieces, huge lateral files and cubical walls left.

I still have not gotten a new chair, I'll have to run over again, mine is toast and crippling me.
I refuse to pay high prices for crap.
