PLAY Tim Burton's Dumbo remake bombs

Hollyweird just can't resist making PC based propaganda movies. Thus, Dumbo becomes a rant on circus animals, and all the charm of the 1941 original is buried under layers of PC based drivel.

the reviews are here.

Dumbo gets a 56 rating which means half the people didn't like it.

Dumbo doesn't fare any better among reviewers either.

The live-action remake of the beloved 1941 animated film hasn't gone down particularly well with the critics

Film critics have been having their say on Disney’s remake of Dumbo, with the movie receiving a large amount of criticism in the first raft of reviews.

Tim Burton’s new live-action/CGI version of the beloved 1941 animated film of the same name is set for release on Friday (March 29), with the likes of Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito and Eva Green all starring.

Reviews of the new Dumbo have been surfacing over the past few days, with the film failing to please a number of prominent critics. The Guardian‘s Peter Bradshaw said that the spirit of the original film had been “painfully de-tusked” by Burton’s new version.

“Tim Burton’s new Dumbo lands in the multiplex big top with a dull thud,” he writes.”It is a flightless pachyderm of a film that saddles itself with 21st-century shame at the idea of circus animals, overcomplicating the first movie, losing the directness, abandoning the lethal pathos, mislaying the songs and finally getting marooned in some sort of steampunk Jurassic Park, jam-packed with retro-futurist boredom that had the kids at the performance I attended talking among themselves.”

The Daily Telegraph‘s Robbie Collin also wasn’t a fan of Dumbo, writing: “The problem with this latest entry in Disney’s ever-expanding range of recycled classics isn’t that it hews too close to the studio’s original animated masterpiece, but that its many departures only muddle the original’s nursery-rhyme simplicity and neuter its famous sustained emotional wallop.”

The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney expressed his disappointment in the film. “The actors all do what they can, but mostly get lost in the shuffle and end up with too little to do, like Alan Arkin’s cynical New York banker… But when that visual leaves a more captivating impression than a baby elephant spreading its ears and getting airborne like a glider, something is definitely off in the balance. The new Dumbo holds the attention but too seldom tugs at the heartstrings.”

Writing for The Wrap, Alonso Duralde said that Burton’s version “lacked the heart and innovation” of the 1941 original. “What we get instead feels more like a lesser 1970s Disney live-action comedy about an animal who can do an extraordinary thing, and the mean people who want to steal him. Burton and his collaborators took the beautiful and moving Dumbo and somehow managed to turn it into a throwaway kiddie adventure like Gus or Million Dollar Duck.”

A shame, really. The live-action Jungle Book, despite departures, was really good. The upcoming live-action Lion King ought to be good as well. Of course, on the other hand, the live-action Beauty and the Beast was Meh at best.

I didn't like the original that well. I'm sure that I'd dislike the remake.

Due to recent negative reviews generated after watching the new Dumbo remake some
movie theater owners are cheerfully offering compensation to all who request refunds.

Glad to hear it. Brain dead hollyweird.

When I was a little girl in elementary school each student paid a dime and we all got to go into the auditorium and watch the original movie it was a real treat.

The newest one on Netflix? The Jungle Book: Legend of the Jungle (2018) is probably the closest to the Rudyard Kipling tale. It had much less departure (like a Gigantopithacus Christopher Walken from the 2016 version) until the third act and was probably the best I've seen. They didn't try to redo all of the songs like in 2016, and I think it was much better.

Most of what Disney puts out anymore is crap.

Beauty and the Beast was the best cartoon movie Disney ever made. Head and shoulders above the rest. No interest in the live action at all.

No, I was referring to the Disney one. I tried to watch the Netflix one specifically because it was supposed to be close to the original Kipling, but I couldn't get past the horrible character design. Kaa had the same head as Shere Khan, and big constrictors do not have binocular vision.

I give up.

Hmmm, don't think I ever saw that one. But I do remember seeing Bambi, Cinderella, and Snow White. The wicked queen in Snow White scared the crap out of my little 5-year-old self, and Bambi's mother dying in the forest fire upset me no end. But Cinderella? That was awesome. I remember reading Dumbo, but I may not have seen the movie.

Beauty and the Beast is hard to find. It sells at a premium, and almost never turns up in used dvd racks. I made a game of looking for it, and it took about five years to find a used copy.

Wow. Dumbo made $45 million on its opening weekend. This is the lowest open EVER for a Disney movie. the link is here

Box Office: ‘Dumbo’ lands at no. 1 with soft $45 million

March 31, 2019

By Rebecca Rubin

LOS ANGELES, (Variety.com) – Disney’s “Dumbo” had an underwhelming liftoff at the domestic box office. Tim Burton’s live-action remake debuted with $45 million from 4,259 North American theaters, below expectations heading into the weekend.

While that was easily enough to top the domestic box office, it marks the lowest start among the studio’s recent live-action remakes of Disney classics. To compare, 2017’s “Beauty and the Beast” debuted with $174 million, 2016’s “The Jungle Book” opened with $103 million,” and 2015’s “Cinderella” launched with $67 million.

Heading into the weekend, “Dumbo” was expected to surpass $50 million in its first three days of release. Part of the reason for the softer opening is likely because the original “Dumbo” cartoon came out 80 years ago, making the lovable elephant seem slightly less relevant than classics like “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Jungle Book,” which both became huge successes for the studio.

“Dumbo” carries a $170 million production budget. The high-flying elephant will have to resonate overseas should “Dumbo” not pick up steam at the domestic box office. The movie launched in most international territories this weekend, amassing $71 million from foreign markets for a global start of $116 million.

Audiences were more receptive than critics to Tim Burton’s take on baby elephant with inconveniently large ears. Moviegoers awarded “Dumbo” with an A- Cinemascore. It holds a 50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. As expected, families made up 54 percent of opening weekend crowds. It also skewed slightly female: 53 percent of patrons were women.

IN OTHER NEWS, GOOD NEWS, THE MOVIE UNPLANNED, DESPITE THE VICIOUS ATTACK ON IT HAS ALREADY RECOUPED ITS ENTIRE PRODUCTION COST OF $6 MILLION.

Dumbo cost $170 million, so it is down $125 million in total.

The $350 million domestic gross for the PC based Marvel movie is also hundreds of millions below the other Marvel movie domestic revenue.

New release “Unplanned” will battle with romance drama “Five Feet Apart” for fourth place. Both titles earned roughly $6 million this weekend.

“Unplanned,” which tells the true story of a Planned Parenthood employee who has a life-changing experience, doubled expectations that pegged an opening weekend around $3 million. It cost $6 million to produce.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was OK. Nothing special but not bad. But I went in having heard the bad reviews so probably had low expectations. I did not feel like it hit me over the head with PC until the very end.

That's good to know. I may end up having to take several children to it.

Poor Sambo was knocked down by angry blacks because he was wearing a MAGA hat
given to him by his mother to wear with pride at a Young Republicans For Trump rally
held in Trollop's Three Onion Ring Circus. His hat was torn apart and burned, and then
poor Sambo had cayenne pepper peanuts stuffed up into his trunk-- such outrage and
hatred displayed against a young pachyderm who held no grudge. It's just not fair. Oh
look, here comes the ringmaster with a cat o'nine tails to entertain the donkey clowns!
