I’m sitting out on my porch right now drinking coffee and watching the hummingbirds around the feeder on this gorgeous sunny morning. In my neck of the woods (SW Missouri), it’s supposed to be 80 degrees today. Cases of COVID-19 have not increased here, and the state is set to open up on Monday.
I think (here at least) summer will be much of a nothingburger. Not much will change, I’ll still be watching the numbers hover around the status quo around the country, other states will begin opening up, and summer will bring a lull... maybe even a sense that the worst is behind us. Economically, things will continue their downward trend with stories of shortages and job losses, but people will still go about their business gardening and camping and enjoying the R&R that summer provides. Maybe even more vitamin D and sunshine will reduce cases and increase positive moods.
Yet I can’t shake the feeling that fall is going to bring a resurgence of everything. I imagine K-12 schools and colleges opening back up in the fall and people will be once again confined indoors, only to bring about round 2 of the virus. Not unlike the flu pandemic of 1918.
While other sheeple are likely going to enjoy their summer and revel in the end of the quarantine, I’m going to be here continuing to stock up, continuing to save money, continuing to prepare with a fervor that feels even more urgent than it did a few months ago. I have a bad feeling, and wish I didn’t.
Is it just me??? What are your thoughts on what autumn will bring?
