‘This is too much’: News of Natalie Portman as female Thor divides film franchise fans
21 Jul, 2019

"News that Natalie Portman will star as a female Thor in an upcoming Marvel film has sparked debate on social media as some fans reacted in anger to a woman being cast as the titular role in the popular comic book franchise.

While a female Thor character does appear in the comics, some fans were angered by Marvel Studios’ announcement on Saturday, saying it was “too much” and claiming it was another example of PC madness messing with a beloved series to score diversity points. The casting revelation prompted some critics to ask if we should expect a man to play Wonder Woman, or female versions of Batman and Superman films.

A female Thor? Is Hollywood making EVERYTHING female nowadays?

Some drew comparisons with the recent rumors that the next Bond movie will see a female black actress take over the ‘007’ codename from Daniel Craig. Others simply said they had no interest in watching a female Thor movie.

However, many more fans of the series were quick to point out that the comic books feature a story arc in which Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster, who Portman played in previous Thor movies, takes up the hammer and becomes Thor, the Goddess of Thunder.

So... all of you dumb@sses that decide to bash a female Thor... There have been a bunch of different Thors, YES INCLUDING JANE FOSTER! Thor dies, Jane Foster picks up the hammer and is worthy, so yeah... it's canon.

Portman appeared as Foster in the Thor movies in 2011 and 2013, but wasn’t in the most recent movie, Thor: Ragnarok."

Just NOOOOOOOOO, why in the world does jerkwood have to ruin just everything?

Funny thing...Thor was briefly a woman back in 1978. I thought it had happened at some point so I checked this out; Jane Foster briefly became Thor during an issue of What If, Marvel's speculative comic series.

And another What if had X-Man Rogue as Thor, and another round of XMan had Storm as the Goddess of Thunder

Does the skull on her dress have anything to do with Thor, or is she just signalling something. It's rather grotesque.
The video is non stop hillarious, thanks.

Ragnarok

On and On, South of Heaven
In the comics Jane Foster did become the new Thor...

The comics did not sell because the fans hated the idea ( and, I believe the same will happen with the movie ).

Thor is now a man, again.

Ragnarok

On and On, South of Heaven
Really. I didn't know Rogue served a round as Thor. That position's been all over the map, I guess.

"What If" is a comic series that tells a story in a single issue and deals with alternate realities such as, "What If... Rogue was Thor?"

Kind of like the whole Riri Williams thing, huh?

"Excuse me, white boy, but I seem to have dropped my soap. Would you be so kind as to bend over and pick it up for me?”

“Yes, of course, noble soul of color. I would be most happy to bend over for you.”

“Call me massa, you pasty-ass cracka. And squeal like a pig.”

“Yes, massa.”

And then … Pete Buttigieg awoke.

“Damn that alarm!” he spat bitterly. “I was just getting to the good part!”

Imagine the next Thor as still being a white male -- but a gay bottom, especially one who prefers body-builder black men for his doms.

In the actual Norse Sagas, while Thor is not gay, Loki does talk him into dressing up in drag to impersonate Freya in order to get his hammer back.

It is one of the most hilarious stories in ancient literature and was almost certainly performed as a sacred play with the biggest, ugliest guy in the village playing Thor.

I don't understand why they are trying to make Thor be a woman - it isn't a title its a name and besides if there were a Goddess of Thunder (it is a comic book, not religion or folklore) her name would be THORA, that is the female Thor name.

Even in a comic book, I'd prefer it if she perhaps got Thor's Hammer for a time and maybe even became Thora, again even in the Sagas we know that Thor can have his hammer stolen and then he has to get it back.

I probably won't be nearly as interested in this movie as I was in the first three and I don't watch many movies to start out with.

We know this already, Melodi...

I don't understand why they are trying to make Thor be a woman.

It's because feminists want men to have no places of their own, that pathologically envy-driven covetous feminist-directed women MUST invade every space that men have that feminists see as desirable. They see no converse obligation to open up any traditionally-female spaces to men, though. It's like the blacks that just HAVE to immigrate into Western countries, and once here, MUST be preferentially admitted to anywhere they want to go. (Both inevitably displace more capable whites/white men en masse in the process.) Yet, neither is much good at founding and growing large complex organizations like Fortune 500 corporations or U.S. military branches; they're more like locusts that come in, drain the life out, kill it, wear the skin as a coat, expect all the same performance and earned plaudits the organization gathered previously. They then act indignant that the skin does not act as the talisman they thought it was, not understanding that it was merely a symbol of white male achievement that must be maintained to continue existing.

There are still a number of female-only colleges, but not ONE male-only one of which I'm aware (surely no public ones). Likewise, I don't believe there is one large male-only fraternal order yet, and most of us know about how there are female-only exercise clubs, but no declared (have publicly stated they won't accept any females) male-only ones. The college FRATERNITIES are in the process of being forced to admit women, for crying out loud; think that there'll be 1/10th as many frank, non-PC discussions about the nature of dating women in them after that (which plenty of college guys find useful)? Me neither.

WELL, at least she won't be anywhere NEAR as wooden as the only Thor I've been forced to watch, on one or another pizza shop's tv. she actually has a few acting skillz.

Thanks Melodi, I had forgotten that from the Sagas. Time to reread.

I can’t boycott Hollywood or celebrities any more than I am now. Coincidental timing this announcement right on the heel of Berkeley changing the name of anything with ‘man’ as party of the name.

The biggest problem with this is that in the comics, Thor was a persona that a worthy person could take on by being worthy and lifting Mjolnir. You didn't just get the power of Thor, you became Thor with some of your characteristics.

In the movie Thor is a person with a multi-millenia long life. They can't make a "female Thor," even if Jane Foster gets the power associated with Mjolnir.
Did Cap "become Thor" in Endgame? No...

This is just SJW pandering by Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios.
I hope that is sells as well as the Jane Foster Thor comics......

I have never, ever, watched any of the ":comic book movies", except the very first Iron Man/Person. I see nothing in them worth my time.

Oh, I watched a couple of the X-Men films, but that was because Picard was in them - lol.

I didn't care for Portman as Foster, I doubt she will make a decent super hero...... I agree this is just more PC crap out of Disney......

Everything I've seen in the press about new movies is abhorrent. Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers? Yeah, I want to see that. I actually muttered to myself that just when you think you have seen it all...... I'm a fan of Thor. I like his character. Although ALL the actors in these Superhero Movies are very left of center. I don't want to be preached to. I want to be entertained. This is not entertaining. I say make the chic flick with Thor as a woman. It will draw nothing.

Agreed. As a STEM major in college, I always referred to them as "fraternity majors". I further broke it down into "students and Greeks". Like the football majors, they should have been moved completely off-campus, not even bothering to have to take any classes or otherwise set foot there.

I sat next to Portman on a flight to Paris several years ago.

Smokin hot and whiney. She had several script binders open in front of her cramming for a gig.

With her little tits? Nonfat, sure. Good skin, okay. Often has long hair, I'll give her that. But, still; have some standards, man.

i dunno guys.... sounds like a severe case of gender appropriation when a female takes over a traditional male role or is it male appropriation? vice versa too. . is that legal these days? will she have to pay Male Appropriation Fees for this crime against nature?
