Either that or he’s holding a plastic toy gun.
Go ahead, grab your AR and try to hold it like the guy in the pic... See how long you can hold it level..

That did occur to me, and I did look closely at the pic to see if that would be enough, but I decided no. He‘s incredibly strong in that one hand.

Is that thing up front a sling loop? Looks like it's around his hand in that pic.

And here-

Dunno if this comes from a video, but could be he's in the process of letting the weapon drop after letting go with his left hand to point at something.

It looks like he's bracing it against his body a bit. It kind of helps support the weight if you're just taking your hand off to point for a few seconds.

I was thinking though: if he had to shoot from the hip as a lefty, the hot brass and gas might mangle his pink shirt.

Plus both are barefoot, which means they were rushed, excited, maybe afraid, but
I won't fault them with anything they did.

Speaking from combat experience. When the adrenaline is flowing, your body position, holding your weapon or anything physically necessary is not even thought of. After action reviews conducted on the site of the fire fight become comical as fire team members describe what and how they did things. Same goes for jumping or climbing. For instance the BOULDER they took cover behind when discovered afterward is a large rock providing little or no cover. The same goes for trees or rock walls.
I have seen men sprint and move so fast I would have swore it was a joke or video while at the same time everything seems surreal.
Saving Private Ryan's battle scenes are the closest to how it feels and sounds. I am glad they cannot incorporate smells or the feel of all the different shock waves peppering your body from every direction.
If you have ever thrown a hand grenade you will know exactly what I am talking about. You spend all day on the grenade range throwing practice dummy grenades. The targets used have known distances and all of your class can barely hit mid range. Then you go to the live range and throw the real grenades. Everyone will exceed their farthest throw by at least ten yards.
Adrenaline is amazing.

My dad was a mean old school USMC type still bar fighting at 65 years old and he had a pink shirt that he would wear from time to time, he loved it. Me and my Bro would give him shit about it just to piss him off.
He would always tell us Keep it up and your nose is going to turn your shirts RED.
