The Return of Christendom
Demography, Politics, and the Coming Christian Majority

Are we seeing the revitalization of Christian civilization?

While it appears that everywhere we look, the secular left celebrates another victory lap, what if it turns out that brewing beneath the surface, a renewed Christian age is rising?

The Return of Christendom In this thought-provoking book, Dr. Steve Turley argues that there is in fact two revolutions concurrently taking place: a demographic revolution and a political revolution, both of which suggest a significant conservative Christian resurgence. Drawing from scholarly studies and current events, Dr. Turley's study will inspire you to reject the naysayers predicting the twilight of the West, and instead embrace a hopeful vision of cultural renewal and the coming Christian majority.

The guy is a Pollyanna... In my opinion he's naive and is not paying attention. My pastor told me about statistics he's seen that show that half of New Christians in America leave the church within two years.

To me, his book title is out right "Click Bait"....with no basis in reality.

I seem to remember something.... hmmm... something about bearing false witness? Please prove to me Turley is a fake Christian. Site examples?

There has been a "Great Falling Away" here in the US and most of Europe. I haven't heard Turley deny it. Watch a few of his videos on the resurgence of the church, the faith, especially in Poland, Hungary and Russia. Then we'll talk.

“Do not stop him.” Jesus replied, “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me."

The United Methodist Church recently held an international conference in St. Louis Missouri. The members, despite objections from the American representatives, resoundingly rejected a pro LGBT agenda and supported traditional Christian views. A significant part of this support was coming from a growing church membership from South America and Africa.

Excuse me? I did not call Turley a fake Christian. I said there were a lot of fake Christians on the rise. They are everywhere. Christian in name only who think they have hit the mark, but instead they have been deceived. I have no knowledge of Turley, and know nothing about him, so I don't have a clue as to whether he is a true Christian or not. My statement was based on a general sense, not on a personal one.

Matt. 7:21-23 should be a reminder that everyone who does miracles is not of Christ, when He declares that he never knew them, even though they called him Lord. Do you have a reference for your verse? The book of Mark, maybe. Yes, I'm also familiar with that verse, too.

I meant no offense.

I don't believe Steve Turley is a "fake Christian" and would not leave an inference to that on a thread especially where I was totally unfamiliar with the OP subject matter and author. Some Christians may find it a misleading implication. No offense taken.

Mark 9:39 - 40

“Do not stop him.” Jesus replied, “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me."

Be careful what you quote, because context is all important.

Mar 9:38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
Mar 9:39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

He was CASTING OUT DEVILS (demons). Since they accused Jesus of doing that.

So in context is Steve casting out demons? If so, we won't speak of ill of him, since Jesus did the same thing.

It should also be noted:

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

2Th_2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Who should we listen to?

No where have I ever seen reference to Dr. Steve Turley casting out demons. Unless you think supporting and reporting on developments in international conservative views and traditional Christian religious practices somehow demonic and in need of exorcism?

Does that cut both ways?

Stephen Richard Turley is an American adjunct instructor of world music and aesthetics at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, New Testament scholar, and former classical guitarist. He also teaches theology and rhetoric at Tall Oaks Classical School.

Early life and education[edit source]
Turley grew up in New Haven, Connecticut.[1] He attended college at the Peabody Conservatory where he studied under Ray Chester and Manuel Barrueco, and has had a minor career as a performing artist.[1][2]

In 2013, Turley received his Doctor of Philosophy from Durham University.[3] (note: not theology)

According to William Scheick, who teaches early American literature at the University of Texas, in a 2008 article about the Jonathan Edwards sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, Turley argues that in the notable sermon, widely understood as emphasizing the afterlife, Edwards was actually speaking about a quotidian (meaning everyday) evangelical intensity he shared with his listeners.[9][10]

A 2015 doctoral dissertation analyses a 2014 Turley essay on immigration in which Turley argues against cosmopolitan commitment to globalization and on the grounds that it deviates from traditional forms of religiosity, and national and local beliefs and practices. Drawing on the interpretations of Deuteronomy 10:18-19 by theologian James K. Hoffmeier, Turley draws a sharp distinction between legal and illegal immigrants, arguing that churches should aid, comfort, and "in effect adopt illegal immigrants and their families, help pay for lawyer's fees to make sure they get a fair hearing in the courts, and then provide the resources needed to help them fulfill the court’s decisions" (p.230)

I swear, Christians can be the most pessimistic, doubtful people around! GOD IS OMNIPOTENT! If He chooses to offer Earth one more chance and let a revival sweep the world... it will happen.

Yes, I believe we are in the end times, but i have to acknowledge that other generations before this have also believed that they were living in the last days. I could be wrong...

Thanks for the link. I'll read the book with an open mind, after praying for the Spirit to guide my discernment...

Yeah about that... Still not one single sited example of such by this author.... Not a single example of where or how this author has "watered down", lied, deceived or mislead anyone.

Hmmmm sounds almost suspiciously like when I ask a progressive liberal to justify their opinions with verifiable facts.

Of course this board doesn't have any trolls who would:
Post multiple long meandering or empty text to distract from the OP.
Post multiple long meandering or empty text to bury more positive posts.
Post demands for information totally unrelated to the subject of the OP.
Post unfounded innuendos that could be construed to discredit malign the author and subject.

I'm sure there are no progressive liberal trolls here posting with the intentions:
of hiding, disparaging or marginalizing reports of the resurgence of the Christian Faith in the specifically reported areas of the world?
Provide personifications of the most self-righteous, ethnocentric, worst possible Christian stereotypes reminiscent of the Westboro Baptists designed to discredit the subject and Christians in general?

No offense meant. Any resemblance to posters here is purely coincidental. :trl:

Remember the verse that says “In the last days I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh”?

I do in fact remember that verse.

Do you remember what I said about context?

Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
Act 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,
I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Act 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

It should also be noted:

On 15 October 2006, McKean published in the Portland church bulletin the first of a three-part series entitled, "Partners in the Gospel."[15][16][17]

Though the names "Portland Movement" and "Sold-Out Discipling Movement" had been used for over a year, these three articles were the first formal announcement of the birth of the International Christian Church. It was only after this October 2006 date that any church affiliated with the Portland Church changed their name to ICC.
Since 2006, the congregations under McKean's leadership have been called the International Christian Church.[18]

In April 2007, McKean and his wife Elena left the Portland International Christian Church to plant the City of Angels International Christian Church in Los Angeles. McKean and his wife were accompanied by 40 other leaders from the Portland ICC.[19]

The International Christian Church is a break off of the International Church of Christ. And that the ICC is preterist in their view of prophecy. Meaning those prophecies in Dan. pertaining to the last days, and those in Rev. were fulfilled no later than 70 AD. You can double check that here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preterism

Nearly all preterist view, as a mission, to convert the world, and present the evangelized world as the Bride of Christ, to Him at this coming. Therefore they will always view the future as a revival, since it hasn't happen yet.

BTW building a big building doesn't represent the body of Christ, The Church. If one believes that, then they should be ecstatic over the Munster's in Germany.

The world of evangelical Christianity was rocked recently with the announcement that Hank Hanegraaff, host of the Bible Answer Man radio broadcast and President of the Christian Research Institute, converted to Eastern Orthodoxy. He was received into the Greek Orthodox Church through chrismation this past Palm Sunday, the day of the terrible terrorist murder of Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Now, Hanegraaff’s move from Protestantism to Eastern Orthodoxy has gotten pretty mixed reviews. For the most part, it’s just treated as a news worthy item. But some bloggers have expressed their concern that Hanegraaff is turning away from evangelical biblical theology; in fact rather extreme blogger has gone so far as to accuse Hanegraaff of actually leaving the Christian faith.

Now I see such reactions are completely myopic. I made a similar change over 10 years ago, when I was received into the Greek Orthodox Church. And I know several people who have also made the switch. And I think that what Hangegraaff is doing is actually very predictable. He of course has his own personal reasons for making the change from the Protestant church to the Orthodox Church, but his conversion is actually part of a trend that is going on worldwide; and this trend involves nothing less than a return to traditional ways of life and belief, what scholars call retraditionalization.

What we have to understand is that decades of secular globalization have actually detraditionalized cultures and societies, replacing traditional ways of life with more globalistic and consumer based lifestyles. So while traditional societies believe that every person born into the world is born into a moral obligation to conform their lives into a harmonious relationship with the divine meaning and purpose inherent in the world around us, globalistic secular societies reduce the human person to a sovereign individual who has no moral obligations apart from that which one chooses for oneself. And so globalistic secular societies tend to be very hostile towards traditions, since traditional conceptions of say religion, gender, and sexuality are now considered unduly oppressive, intolerant, and unjust.

Now the fact is that decades of this secular globalization has reignited and reawakened a hunger and a longing for traditional ways of life and society. It’s not just a matter of Farmers Markets being set up to counter the anti-communal effects of the local mall; globalization provokes similar sentiments that create a groundswell of support for a return to far more traditional and religious ways of life.

For example, we’re seeing nothing less than the re-awakening of Byzantine-inspired Christian civilization in Eastern Europe. Not only has Russia rebuilt over 15,000 churches since the end of communism, but a recent survey found that 30 percent of Russians would like to see a return to some kind of monarchical rule comparable to the Tsars.

Just a few months back, the Catholic Bishops of Poland, in the presence of President Andreiz Duda and many Catholic pilgrims, officially recognized as the King of Poland and called upon Him to rule over their nation, its people and their political leaders. You have Hungary reincorporating Christianity into their constitution. You have the president of Moldova saying that his country has no future without Christianity. You have polls that indicate that the Orthodox Church is the single most trusted institution in nations such as Georgia and Bulgaria.

And we’re finding that this retraditionalization is particularly evident among young people. When Pope Benedict brought back the Latin Mass, also known as the Tridentine Mass, it was expected that the congregants showing up for its revitalization would be people over 60, who are old enough to remember their Latin from before the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s that replaced the Latin Mass with vernacular worship. Instead, to everyone’s amazement, the majority of congregants showing up were Catholics in their late-teens and early twenties.

And when asked about this, priests such as the Rev. Christopher Smith in South Carolina, who conducts a Latin Mass, note that young people see a great sense of beauty and reverence and devotion, and also a sense of historical continuity. They’re enamored with praying the same prayers that saints from 1,500 years ago were praying when they went to Mass, in the same language. And Fr. Smith has further noted that attendance at his parish’s Latin Mass has grown from about 60 to more than 300 worshipers.

Moreover, you have the renaissance of classical Christian education throughout the nation, which of course involves the revitalization of Latin and Greek as well as theology as the queen of the sciences and the reading of the literary classics. You have a mass boom in homeschooling both here in the States and in Russia. You have a return to big families, where it’s no longer an anomaly among conservative Christians to have 6, 7, or 8 children. In fact, the Amish are doubling in population every 20 years. You have the advent of Prayer Book Presbyterians and churches rediscovering the liturgical calendar and practicing things like Ash Wednesday. And the hottest thing in Christian circles right now is what’s called ‘The Benedict Option,’ a communal lifeworld modeled after the tradition of St. Benedict.

Now this retraditionalization is not only going on in formerly Christian civilizations; we’re seeing the advent of Sharia councils in the U.K. that arbitrate between conflicts among Muslims, the revival of imperial Shintoism at the highest levels of the Japanese government, a revitalization of Confucian philosophy among Chinese officials, Hindu nationalism in India, Islam in Turkey, and on and on and on.

And of course, we have a tsunami of nationalist populism sweeping throughout Europe and the U.S., all of which involve some form of reawakening localized traditions, customs, languages, ethnicities, and religions as mechanisms of resistance against secularizing globalist tendencies.

So in many respects, I see Hank Hanegraaff’s conversion to Orthodoxy as par for the course of the re-traditionalization that’s going on all around us in response to the virulently anti-cultural, anti-traditional dynamics of secular globalization. I think we have to understand that for many Christians, Protestantism doesn’t really cut it when it comes to satisfying this craving for traditionally grounded expressions and experiences of the Christian faith. There are certainly evangelicals such as Robert Webber who have recognized this impoverishment and have sought to reintroduce historic liturgical practices back into the lifeworld of Protestant churches, particularly those centering on the Eucharist. But for many, such as Hank Hanegraaff, those efforts are not quite enough and so they’ve turned to those very churches that serve as the resources from which such liturgical renewal is being drawn. That was certainly the case when it came to my decision to leave the Protestant church, as was the case with many of my fellow converts.

And so I do think that Hank Hanegraaff’s detractors are highly myopic in how they are interpreting his conversion; I think they fail to see that this is in fact indicative of a worldwide conversion away from a secularized vision of life and toward a more traditional vision of society, culture, and faith.

The above and this is only for informational purposes only: Take it for what it's worth, or dismiss as you see fit.

Steve Turley is Eastern Orthodox, what does Eastern Orthodox believe concerning eschatology (the study of end times)

[Eschatology[edit]
Main article: Christian eschatology

Last Judgment: 12th-century Byzantine mosaic from Torcello Cathedral

Orthodox Christians believe that when a person dies the soul is temporarily separated from the body. Though it may linger for a short period on Earth, it is ultimately escorted either to paradise (Abraham's bosom) or the darkness of Hades, following the Temporary Judgment. Orthodox do not accept the doctrine of Purgatory, which is held by Catholicism. The soul's experience of either of these states is only a "foretaste"—being experienced only by the soul—until the Final Judgment, when the soul and body will be reunited.[104][105]

The Eastern Orthodox believe that the state of the soul in Hades can be affected by the love and prayers of the righteous up until the Last Judgment.[106] For this reason the Church offers a special prayer for the dead on the third day, ninth day, fortieth day, and the one-year anniversary after the death of an Orthodox Christian. There are also several days throughout the year that are set aside for general commemoration of the departed, sometimes including nonbelievers. These days usually fall on a Saturday, since it was on a Saturday that Christ lay in the Tomb.[105]

Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Patmos, where the Book of Revelation was written
While the Eastern Orthodox consider the text of the Apocalypse (Book of Revelation) to be a part of Scripture, it is also regarded to be a holy mystery. Speculation on the contents of Revelation are minimal and it is never read as part of the regular order of services.[citation needed] Those theologians who have delved into its pages tend to be amillennialist in their eschatology, believing that the "thousand years" spoken of in biblical prophecy refers to the present time:

from the Crucifixion of Christ until the Second Coming.

While it is not usually taught in church it is often used as a reminder of God's promise to those who love him, and of the benefits of avoiding sinful passions. Iconographic depictions of the Final Judgment are often portrayed on the back (western) wall of the church building to remind the departing faithful to be vigilant in their struggle against sin. Likewise it is often painted on the walls of the Trapeza (refectory) in a monastery where monks may be inspired to sobriety and detachment from worldly things while they eat.
The Eastern Orthodox believe that Hell, though often described in metaphor as punishment inflicted by God, is in reality the soul's rejection of God's infinite love which is offered freely and abundantly to everyone.

The Eastern Orthodox believe that after the Final Judgment:
All souls will be reunited with their resurrected bodies.
All souls will fully experience their spiritual state.
Having been perfected, the saints will forever progress towards a deeper and fuller love of God, which equates with eternal happiness.[105]

The only question now is does Steve believe that.

I guess it all depends on what you call the Eastern Church. If it isn't biblically based, what is it worth whether it fills a void or not.

I'm not sure they can fill the void left by those abandoning organized Christian religious sects thru out the entire world. Maybe they can. I'm not going to underestimate the powers of the Lord.

I do believe from Dr. Steve Turley's videos and other sources theses Eastern churches are working hard to fill the spiritual needs for the citizens of their own countries and are growing in numbers and influence. This is one of the reasons I'm interested in reading “The Return of Christendom: Demographics, Politics, and the Coming Christian Majority”. I want to find out why those areas of Christendom are doing so well energizing their church congregations while here in west, not so much. DH downloaded the free .PDF. After I've finished it I plan to put up a critique.

This book must have something seriously important in it for the trolls to be hitting this thread so hard. In the years I've been here I never remember any free download thread being trolled. Ever.

I'm beginning to wonder if the reasons for the trolls is these same countries have rejected the EU and their immigration quotas. They are resisting the take over of their county's government, economies and destruction of their cultures by the global elites. These county's are fighting to retain their sovereignty, unique identity, cultures as well as their Christian faith and religion. Coincidence?

Brief review so far: “The Return of Christendom: Demographics, Politics, and the Coming Christian Majority” has 67 pages. almost each text page has footnotes siting references and sources. How credible those are? As of yet I don't know. They will have to be verified. I may spot check a few out of curiosity. Dr. Turley's writing style is very similar to his speaking style on his YouTube channel videos. Links to a few of them can be found in prior posts on this thread.

From what little I've read so far I can't fathom why or on what grounds anyone with traditional Christian values would object to this. I was raised Pre-Vatican II Catholic and so far haven't found anything that doesn't fall in line with religious teachings I was brought up with. So far he's basically objecting to how the modern secular world has strayed so far from those teachings.

When I posted the above it sounded to me like woo. The trolls on the thread were just over zealous Christians... Right? Now after watching Patriot Nurse and her take on the communist infiltration and take over of organized church leadership in the US and the US Methodist Church pushing a pro LGBTQ agenda, it doesn't. While I don't want to see the the LGBTQ community persecuted or discriminated against I believe it is wrong to forcibly imposed their agenda on the church.

In this informative video, Patriot Nurse discusses the coming civil war and the influence of communist infiltration into the American church, as well as the obvious signs of impending conflict in the United States. The Left has steadily shown that they intend to continue taking away the rights of citizens, all the while attempting to soothe and placate them with the siren song of antipathy fomented even now in the Church.

Summation:

Basically this book destroys the progressive liberal/globalist argument that: there must be mass immigration due to a falling birth rate in first world countries.

From what I've read so far the book deals in demographics not dogma or doctrine.

So far the summation is: Conservative Christian and Jewish sect woman are having more kids than secular liberal woman even in countries with progressive liberal governments (including France and the US). In countries with conservative governments actively rejecting the globalist agenda the numbers are significant. The author sites sources if you want to verify. In some countries where Christians do not make up the majority religion conservative Christian women are still reproducing at a higher than replacement rate.

It makes the argument that provided the children remain conservative Christians, liberals could be out numbered in a generation. I think it's naive in that at least so far I haven't seen projected reproduction statistics for non-Christian immigrants.
