CHAT The mask wearing cracks me up

OK, we have those that wear masks while driving alone in their vehicles. Yeah, idiots.

I mean, WTF do they think is going on in their vehicle?

That's one thing...but after visiting many west coast beach areas this week, I see people wearing masks on the beach! Alone! No one is even around!

The fresh air literally blows in from the ocean. That fresh air mixed in with sunlight is like a super power.

I told my kids, these are the people we have to watch out for. They are VERY dangerous.

To top it off, while on our way to the river today (no masks) we saw a guy rolling by in an old chevy, 1950's, convertible, alone, wearing a mask.

I told my kids, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM PEOPLE LIKE THIS.

I used to think that some barrier was better than no barrier (have probably posted as such). But, these things get damp quickly and people are constantly adjusting them. That has changed my mind. I suspect they spread more germs than they stop.

I am suspicious that is the reason why their use is ever more stringently enforced.

Gov. Pooper here in NC ordered masks in public as of last Friday evening. Lots of people coming into the store this week wearing a mask. They look around and see America the normal. One guy in the fanciest high tech mask I have seen so far asked me, "can I take this thing off?" My answer was, "hell yeah."

He pulls the mask off and said, "Thank God."

95+% of our customers that come in wearing a mask take it off within the first 5 minutes in the store. Even the LEOs that come in. Old, young, white, black, hispanic, asian, off they come and they all smile.

The reason that in some places it is more stringently enforced has nothing to do with disease, it is all about "You shall comply!" I have no problem with folks who are scared, I have a dear friend battling cancer and other issues that is terrified of Covid, I get it, and support her wearing it. But if you are healthy and do so just because they told you to, then you are an idiot.

I wore an N95 once . . . a few months ago . . . when I was finishing off some drywall.
Then then corona happened and I took it out of the sanding bag and wore it to the WalMart.

And then you could not buy any more.

SO sweetie went to get her hair done once we got back to Texas and the little shop required one (they were selling em for $5).
She went in to make the appointment, they told her she needed a mask, so she cupped her hand over her mouth and just kept talking about making an appointment. They finally gave her one of those paper ear masks.
She gets back in the car, complains she had to wear a mask. I says "you DID NOT pay $5 for that mask".
She "no, they just gave it to me". I says "SCORE" and gave her a high five.
Got two more free masks at the HEB.

These masks . . . useless . . . the toilet paper sweetie buys is thicker and has more layers . . . softer too . . .
they are not going to prevent anything

Yes, our know-bettern-U gov in NC has decreed that us iggnert yokels will wear the mask when out of doors. I had one in the truck when I went with DW to the dentist yesterday but since I didn't go in, the mask stayed over the visor.

Where my absent minded self left it the couple of times I DID get out of the truck at other places. Fortunately my lawlessness escaped the notice of the Mask Poleece, and no one really cared. I got not so much as a second look.

Here, masks are not required, but suggested, for now. I continue to choose to wear a good one in grocery stores, wal mart, and other indoor enclosed areas. Sometimes, it is easier to leave a mask on than to carefully remove it and carefully put it on again at the next stop. It doesn't bother me to wear as it has an exhaust valve. If you see me going store to store and have a mask on in my vehicle, now you know why. Not everyone in a mask is an idiot, communist, or fifth columnist like some here think.

I wear a one layer fabric mask. It's comfortable. Doesn't do much as far as protection. I wear it because it hides my wrinkles and neck. I look much younger with it on then off. I'm not vain but if I can look better with little effort I will do it.

Those surgical masks they are only mean for sterile environments. They also state clearly on the box or container they are not rated to prevent exposure to airborne bacteria and viruses. They are just for show. We'll thus far, despite the county's demand that masks be worn inside businesses and the business being held responsible if their customers don't (to the tune of $250 to $500 per incident), I have not worn a mask.

My son that has to wear one for his job volunteered to do the grocery shopping. I've done the rest of my shopping at outdoor produce stands. I'm not wearing a dang mask. I'll travel a few counties up the interstate and shop before I give these rat bastards my obedience.

I've yet to wear a mask since the beginning of this fiasco. I won't be starting up regardless of what the idiots in charge demand. I can hold out a hella lot longer than they can. They've already screwed the pooch. I'm not following their lame example.

Was im Perkins the other morning. All staff required to wear a mask. ALL employees were wearing them wrong when they approached the tables. As soon as they walked away off with the mask and the bare hand face rubbing began.

I don't care if other people want to wear masks. If it makes them feel safer, that's fine. But don't try to dictate to me to wear a mask that I know full well from my education and work experience offers little to no protection. I am completely symptomless - no coughing or sneezing that might spread germs and I wash my hands often, which is normal for me.

Rhetorical question: if a person had COVID back in March and fully recovered, no longer shedding the virus, they have no reason to wear a mask, correct? I am thinking herd immunity is more and more common, especially with recent research that shows the virus is way more widespread than we originally thought.

While I'm not as hard core as some on the freedom issue, I don't wear masks because I can't breathe in them.
Just got off the phone with my doctor.
They require a mask.
But, I can wear a face shield and use a different entrance.

However, there are quite a few on here that try to guilt us for not wearing a mask.
I'm not having that.
If you are afraid and want to wear a mask, that's fine.

You are correct. I just laugh at the people poking fun of others that they see wearing a mask in the car. They must be ignorant of the fact that the more times you touch/ readjust your mask the more likely you are to infect yourself. They just Assume that the person they see wearing a mask in the car doesn't have to make another stop in 2 minutes. I remove my mask when I get back to my vehicle, unless I have to stop again a few miles down the road. It's foolish to keep taking it on and off every few minutes.

Masks have become the dividing thing now between woke and un-woke. Trump doesn't wear a mask...therefore people WILL wear a mask to show they are woke. They will do what Trump doesn't do. Act civilized, not wear a mask, you know...the normal things. The crap about old people and being kind to them by wearing a mask. Hmmm. BS. No one EVER talked of this when flu season came around every year. Old people will catch anything and die.

No masks here. I quizzed a worker at a big chain food outlet here about the masks and whether she was worried about catching the Wuhan. Her mask was brown where she had been breathing through it. Just a huge Petri dish strapped to her mouth. So disgusting. THEY DON'T WORK!

Sahara Dust Cloud mask is why I wear outside. HEB (its a Texas thing) as of midnight requires customers wear mask now after the re-openings.
Our company was well stocked with mask, sanitizers wipes and cleaners before any of this started because of the raging flu season in out area this spring.

IMO herd immunity with this thing is just another myth.

Do we know this for sure, yet? I think there are different strains of this beast, and some herd immunity might be possible in the same season.

Interesting take From Judge Naplitano, I know, I know, must everyone dislikes him here for his Trump bashing But...

Interesting interview with Judge Napolitano on Fox today about masks: He said that the 10th Amendment to the Constitution reserves matters of public health and safety to the states, but even they lack the authority to mandate masks anywhere but state property.

“The federal government certainly can’t do it because the federal government is not charged with public health or public safety,” Napolitano told Fox News’ Melissa Francis. “That is an area that is reserved by the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution for the states.” “And that brings us to whether the states have the authority to do that, and the answer again is no,” said the judge. “If a person is known to be contagious, the state could require that person to be quarantined or wear a mask, but anything short of that, the state cannot interfere with that person’s freedom of movement or freedom to wear or not to wear a mask, so the government’s authority is really rather limited here no matter how aggressive the pandemic may become.”

“So let me modify slightly what I just said,” he said. “The federal government could compel wearing masks on federal property. A military facility, the post office, government buildings, and the state government could compel wearing masks on state property. The DMV, state colleges, things like that. But on property that the government doesn’t own, the feds have no authority to compel wearing a mask, and the states can only compel it when people are sick.”

Napolitano said that “force of public opinion” could do “what the law cannot do” if the vast majority of people in an area shame those not wearing masks.

“But in terms of police stopping you on the street or giving you a summons or a court imposing a fine, absolutely not,” he concluded. “First of all, these mayors and gubernatorial edicts are just suggestions. They are not the law.”

I literally said nothing about the situation you posted? Why would you feel like you needed to twist my words to fit your mask wearing choice???

Someone on the beach, alone. I said.

Someone in their car, alone, I said.

Someone on the beach, west coast incoming ocean air, I said.

Where did I say "grocery stores, wal mart, and other indoor enclosed areas "??

You are an idiot. Period.
