Ok, this is just wrong.

As Glenn Beck would say "Blood was shooting out my eyes."

NBC Local news in the DFW area did a report on Tom Joyner who is kicking off a 14 day campaign to send in the US Census.

Here is his quote:

"It's crucial in our country to be counted because we need our share of the hookup. Government has a lot of money and the Government says to our people this is your share of it and they determine your share by the count."

Now it's not enough to be an "ENTITLEMENT CLASS" you have to compete against other "ENTITLEMENT CLASS" people to get your share of the hookup.

The Government has lots of money? Give me a break. Talk about a disconnect from reality. Where does he think the Government gets that money?

Hookup....Entitlement.....Something for Nothing.....No work ethic.....No Motiviation for improvement ........ just need me a hookup.
We could do with a lot less of that attitude and a lot more of the American "Can do" attitude and "receiving the Benefit of what you work for."

This doesn't surprise me. Tom Joyner had a syndicated morning show in Cleveland that I would occasion to listen. I remember when they had a big he-haw over some white girl surfer having an arm bitten off by a shark. They did a catchy little number vis a vis "Mac the Knife" except it was "Shark bites White". I remember listening to it on the way to work that morning (circa 2004).

Then again, I remember living in So Cal in spring of 2000, and the R&B/Rap stations were going on and on about the census and saying "even if you're only 1% black, you gotta send in, cuz we all be gettin da benefits".

Glad I didn't hear it, it's bad enough reading it. I am surprised your head didn't explode. It is really unbelievable what some people believe is their right and by damn they expect it.

kind of on the same topic...

after school today..my boy ran off to play with neighborhood kids...after an hour or so I went looking for him...I walked up to a yard he plays in sometimes and a 4 year old was standing there...I said..

"hey, is Dominick back there?"..

he said "no"

I said "do you know where he is?"

he said..."how the hell should I know"...

blew my mind..I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...

Even if the entitlement freaks stop to think about where the money comes from, they think it all comes from big business, which they despise. There is no connection there that it's business who gives us workers jobs. They truthfully can't make the connection that little peons like you and me are also taxpayers, paying their way.

They think they deserve it.

I have tried and tried to get inside their heads to figure out why they think the way the do. I can't. I just can't. I am so grateful my parents didn't raise me that way.

hookup or 'hook' also means the connection of information or lead.

such as "my friend has the hook on a good hunting spot" I use "hook" to mean lead, even in business.. "yeah I just got the hook on a better place to buy bottles.." etc. not making excuses, but literally the census is for the 'hookup."

I guess I am relating more to the way my son has used it.

Can you hook me up with a $10 or a $20. That means give it to him, not consider it a loan.

I was at a convienence store and the clerk hooked me up with a six-pack. - Means he didnt' pay for it, got something for nothing.

I hooked up with this girl last night. - Again, he got something for nothing.

I went to apply for a job, I didn't really want it but I knew the guy there. I said hey, can you hook me up?

Basically it means get something for nothing. You lucked out by knowing someone and you got something without having to work for it.

It is sad but a person with that mentality would rather have someone give them something than having to earn it.

WORK ETHIC - Where did it go?

Working for what you obtain - What's wrong with that goal?

America - Land of Opportunity or Land of Entitlement - What value would you rather see in someone?
