THAT’S A LOT OF GUNS
Posted on December 3, 2020 by laststandonzombieisland Leave a comment

One of the best indicators of firearms sales, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System logged 3,602,296 checks in November, an increase of 41 percent over the figure of 2,545,863 for November 2019. In fact, it was the biggest November in the NICS program’s 21-year history.

However, when checks and rechecks for carry permits and the like are subtracted from that figure by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, leaving a more concrete number for over-the-counter checks on gun transfers conducted through federal firearms licensees, it yields 1,949,141 checks, which is an increase of 45.2 percent compared to the November 2019 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,342,155.

When added to the rest of the year, the 2020 running total stands at some 19.1 million adjusted checks, dwarfing the 2016 annual record of 15.7 million checks, and the year still has another month to go before the books are closed. Of those checks, NSSF estimates that a whopping 7.7 million came from new first-time gun buyers.

Oof.

Wasn’t me...I didn’t do it. Honest. Do hate to walk into my local gun shop and walk out empty handed. I just try not to visit these crazy days. Hope more good guys than bad guys are getting equipped. I do so love that Colt D-frame in the pic above.

Have you seen the stores. There are no more guns to buy.... rather very few.

The McAlester Walmart had centerfire rifles and shotguns in the display cases, but no rifle or handgun ammo on display.

God bless us, America and President Trump.

With all those literally millions of first-time gun owners, the demand for ammo will continue to negatively impact the supply of ammo.

I need to reconsider what I’m willing to pay for 9mm. My guess is that most first-time purchases were in that caliber.

My supply is good, but future availability and price is a concern.

My current price cut-off has been 50 cents a round ($25 a box). Part of me still thinks that is crazy high (Cost was $12 just a few months back). Yet, I wonder. Future could easily hit $50 a box (or more).

I’m thinking about maybe buying any available 9mm I find that is below $1 a round. Ouch.
Thoughts?

wonder how many states are like Nebraska, we dont use the NICS system, we get a state permit to buy, good for one 5 years, we get 1 NICS check, when we get that permit, thats it, OR you can buy with your CCP permit, also good for years. could buy as many as you want without another check

How ya gonna feel when your firearm goes, "BANG, BANG, click" in the middle of a firefight? For a fleeting moment, a buck+ a round would look pretty good. But that thought won't last long.

My local Walmart has emptied the shelves of all ammo and sells a meager selection of shotguns and small caliber rifles. I bought a laser boresight to sight my deer rifle because large caliber centerfire is hard to find and very expensive. My twice monthly trips to the range to fire off a box of 9 mm. and 38 cal. has stopped. I set up an airsoft mock in the basement to keep my muscle memory alive but its not the same. I bought a 22 LR target pistol as rimfire is still affordable but harder to find. All in all it's getting bleaker for the sports/competition shooter. One small plus is that you can walk into a gun shop wearing a mask and not get shot straight off.

I paid $1.00 per round for a box of 50 240 Gr SJHP 44 Magnum today, the .380 FMJ right beside it was over .80 a round and the 9mm ball not much better. .22 Hornet is available and at the same price as usual. .22 Mag is not much more than normal.

Sometimes it pays to have odd calibers once you have plenty of the "Standard" stuff.

hiwall,

That chart is an eye opener. Obviously the production/supply isn’t going to keep up with the current demand; therefore, Economics 101 tells us the price is not likely to drop.

Not for 9mm or 5.56 (assuming those are the calibers that the new folks have been buying, which is a reasonable assumption).

The S has HTF.

In Maine, local WMart today had ONE shotgun and ONE bolt rifle in their display case. Ammo case totally empty except one box of .300 WM

Also thinking that the new gun owners may not yet have awakened to the value of having extra magazines. At some point, we may see a startling run on those. Fortunately, we have not seen any serious shortage yet here in central PA.

Perhaps time to add a few more “fun sticks” to the collection.

The time to buy it is when you see it

The shelves have been bare for many months in my AO. We've ran a net of friends who check out the different sources around the AO and when anything is found suddenly showing up on the shelves lets the rest know. Back in June I passed on some 40 because I thought it was too high. Haven't seen a single box in the AO since.

If the limit is two, buy two, if it's 4 buy four. If you can only find off brand buy it, at least when all your "good stuff is gone" you'll still be able to go bang-bang, instead of click-click. All types of guns make very expensive and poor clubs.

Yeah , still some guns around at the local stores but very little ammo...mostly anything bought now would be an expensive stick.

I am very glad I panicked early and avoided the rush :-)

I don't know how this is even possible. We've seen this byline repeated month after month for how many years now?

Wondering why the Swamp isn't very, very nervous? If I was guilty of stealing a Presidential election from over 70 million potentially armed individuals I might have a little trouble sleeping at night.

Why for? TX LTC means I can buy a gun without having to go through the NICS check. If anything, it’s a safe bet to ADD to that initial number instead of subtracting from it.

Time to break out the bayonet collection?

The ones who really need to be shot for treason consider themselves safe in DC.

They don't care about state level, commie peons when it comes down to it.

The real criminals are far enough removed that they are probably safe from anything but a military action.

The wife told me I have enough of everything, she’s better now, had some mags come in today not a word. Might try a rifle next week.:)

About that. It's not 1986. The world is a much smaller place. It might be a little harder to hide and continue to live in the style they've become accustomed.

What will the Puppet Masters need with the DC crew after the "Great Reset"? Wouldn't they be replaced by a few technocrats like China? Corrupt politician for republic that no longer exists would be as useful as screen doors on a submarine.

Maybe they didn't think this thing through?

I'm surprised the gun companies can make the guns that fast, month after month.

And many of those sales were new gun owners, i.e. Progressives/Democrats.

I love when they start feeding on themselves....

The thought of some SJW's each buying a gun and box of ammo and suddenly being under the delusion they're a cross between Lora Croft and Captain Marvel should scare the left more than the right.

One of my DI's back in Army basic, said you can never have too much training, or too much ammo. I think he was on to something. :arg:

(slapping self) It all becomes clear, now! The creature in your avatar is your first DI!!! How did I not figger that out earlier?

All those poor little starving guns and little to feed them.

Maybe Sally Struthers can do a commercial about it?

Anything beyond one or two basic loadouts per could be seen as superfilious since in the worse case, if you aren't competent with what you've got by now it will be OJT when the balloon goes up.
