TRANS Tesla ‘mod package’ allows Cybertruck to double as a boat

Points for awesome, minus points for the level of irrationality required to make an electric truck into a boat.

Fair use, meanwhile, cited so on and so forth.

tesla ‘mod package’ allows cybertruck to double as a boat

In a recent tweet, Elon Musk stated that the Cybertruck is set to double as an actual functional boat. Tesla’s CEO announced that the company plans to offer a ‘mod package’ that enables the vehicle to traverse at least 100 meters of water. ‘Mostly just need to upgrade cabin door seals,’ he added.

The announcement comes just weeks after the highly anticipated Cybertruck delivery launch, which finally commenced on December 1st, 2023. For those who are unfamiliar with the project, Tesla claims that the Cybertruck, an electric vehicle, is faster than a sports car and, depending on the model, can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds with a tri-motor variant.

Elon Musk’s Teases Cybertruck’s Amphibious Capabilities

The announcement didn’t catch Tesla enthusiasts off guard, given Elon Musk’s hints about the Cybertruck’s amphibious capabilities dating back to 2020. In response to a 3D artist’s rendering depicting the Cybertruck as a boat, Musk’s initial tweet hinted at the possibility, stating, ‘I think we could make that work.’ Over the years, Musk continued to tease the truck’s water-friendly features, affirming that the Cybertruck would be ‘waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren’t too choppy.’

While Musk’s recent tweet appears more specific, public skepticism persists, a common response to many of Musk’s statements. Nevertheless, numerous enthusiasts have expressed excitement, showcasing their enthusiasm through Cybertruck-boat hybrid renders and AI-generated images depicting the Tesla vehicle effortlessly navigating through waters. The announcement also brnigs to mind the Cybercat and Cybercat foiler, components designed to quickly transform cybertruck into a high-performance amphibious catamaran (see designboom’s previous coverage here).

Friend was chief of underwater rescue for a neighboring county. With the advent of electric and hybrid vehicles, they quit entering the water with any submerged vehicle until they knew for sure it did not have the new fangled batteries. Unknown or electric powered vehicles were only approached in a dry suit.

So... since I'm clueless about this, IS there a risk of electrocution from a submerged electric vehicle? And if so... would a drysuit provide enough protection?

Seems like long odds. Tesla already noted that it pressurized the battery compartment specifically so the Cybertruck could go through rivers.

But if that's breached, well, could be different.

Danger of electrocution from electric vehicles is both understated and over sensationalized at the same time. If you come in contact with exposed terminals on an EV that are live and it manages to shock you it will most likely be bad. That said there are a variety of safety systems in place to make sure, even in the event of an accident that the contacts inside the battery will be closed and it will be virtually impossible to cause a human fatality... now a runaway fire after a battery pack is physically damaged is a slightly different story...just stand back and don't breathe in the fumes (After you figure out how to get out of a car with electric latches and no power).

In reality the degradation of the components through the life of the vehicles will be increasingly the cause of scrapping entire vehicles as cascading fault codes and safety stops make it virtually impossible to keep older EV's running correctly as the safety systems start to think every change in resistance of the moving components is a problem and the systems stops and locks out to 'protect' us from a failure of electrocution.

ex: how many cases are on the news about a child being killed by electrocution on a Tesla or Prius can we find on the news? ...if the problems were rampant then someone would have made the news by now, Elon isn't universally liked, even in the media...

How Far Can a Tesla Cybertruck ACTUALLY Tow? We Compare It To a Diesel Truck!

Rt 27:38

They had to disconnect the trailer in order to get close enough to the charger so they could plug it in and after just under one and a half hours of charging, they were ready to go. Also was cheaper to tow with a diesel truck. In the end, they don't recommend long hauls using a Tesla.

the real story on these trucks is not good at all......... i passed one on the road yesterday and felt sorry for the owner but happy he wasnt close to me......

I doubt this will work. The amount of energy required to push all that weight through water would drain the battery quickly. Combine the weight plus the resistance of pushing through water this won't work. You would run out the battery just towing the pontoons to the lake.

Thanks to this thread I now know that that really weird-looking vehicle I followed the other day was a Tesla Cybertruck. I will say that the thread improved my life a whole lot more than Tesla.

Sodium is even more reactant than lithium. It will actually draw moisture from the air and eventually burst into flame. It has to be kept in kerosene to avoid exploding. My jr. high school chemistry teacher dropped a dime size chunk of sodium into a coffee can with a couple inches of water in it. The explosion was intense.
