BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Avondale Brewing Company has canceled Ted Nugent’s upcoming concert after receiving public backlash from Birmingham’s LGBTQ+ community.

The brewery and concert venue posted the statement regarding the cancellation to their Instagram story Thursday afternoon, days after the announcement of the hard rock singer-songwriter’s stop for the summer.

“We have heard the concerns of the Avondale community, which is so important to us, and in conjunction with our partners, have taken the necessary steps to cancel the Ted Nugent concert scheduled for July 18,” the business stated.

Several patrons of Avondale Brewing Company spoke out against hosting Nugent’s concert due to his history of homophobic and transphobic remarks, such as stating that “there is no such thing as transgender” via his Twitter account.

Al’s on 7th, a gay bar in downtown Birmingham, took a stand against Nugent’s show by boycotting purchasing beer from Avondale Brewing Company and its partner company Good People Brewing. The bar’s owner Mark Cummings praised the brewery’s cancellation via social media following Thursday’s announcement.

“It’s a great day. We’re glad the people at Avondale are doing what’s right,” Cummings stated on Al’s on 7th Facebook page. “They said loud and clear that hate doesn’t have a home there and I’m proud of them!”

Avondale Brewing Company’s concerts and events page has been updated to remove Nugent’s tour date listing. However, Nugent’s official website has yet to remove the scheduled July 18 show at the time of this article’s publication. Tickets for the show were scheduled to go on sale Friday.

Seeing this a lot lately but did the Crack Live and Local News Team at CBS 42 even attempt to get the other side of the story from the Nugent camp?

My question is: Why? Why would the sponsor a brewing company be so afraid of that tiny community? Cancel culture? Is their customer base more LGBTQ and sympathizers or Ted Nugent fans?
:chg:

Birmingham is a woke mixture of Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis, and San Francisco. It has ocassionlly ranked in the top 10 most dangerous cities in America. Mayor Woodfin is running a criminal political gang of thievery and destruction. Not a good place at all.

Who was that said two separate systems, one for the commies and one for everyone else?

Dennis something as I recall.

Neither here nor there.
Why are so many black men transgender?

Well, between prison life and black women, what else they got but each other?

(note: in the background, from the other room, I heard the voice say "Oh god, you did not just say that!")

I think there's a lot of truth to this though, throw in no father figures to look up to in their lives.

okay had to go reread the OP, I saw Avondale and immediately thought we were talking about some place in the UK, I see it's Alabama.

There are some towns, cities, and nations that live in darkness, and revel it their sin. Those, shake the dust from your Tony Lama’s, rebloc your Stetson, and turn your horse’s ass to them, and go where you’ll be welcome….

They cancel a concert for a very small population?

Our population is bigger. Time to cancel Avondale.
Never heard of Avondale before so no big loss personally. Let them sink or swim on their own beliefs, and hope that the mentally ill community pulls them through.

Locals will probably start calling Avondale beer as " queer beer ". What ever beer sales they have had will very likely shrink greatly. !!!

The queer beer crowd will regret they got into this battle !!!!!!

Bud regrets it, and they are much more well heeled than this piss ant Avondale. PLUS, Teds fan base is much, much larger than the queer beer crowd !!!!!

Yes, I think Avondale shot themselves in the foot. I also predict the musical artists will increasingly add steep cancellation clauses in their contracts, tied to non refundable deposits.

Also, I would suspect Uncle Ted will do something. I would imagine he will find a good venue locally and put on his own show. He will put on a hell of a show, and embarrass the queer crowd. Uncle Ted will not be out done !!!

:D :D:D

GO TED GO !!!!!

IIRC B'ham proper is 250K± population; just how many LBT_Confused folk are there in that 1/4 million?

And how big is this Avondale venue any? Anywhere near the old Gillie's Bar? It was over 50K sqft seating and held 5 or 6K people. I doubt there's any comparison.

My point is the minority, because they whine and snivel, are dictating what we can participate in. I'm not likely to rush to B'ham for a Nugent gig but lots might. Now, because some snivllers whined about his mouth, nobody gets to go.

I bet Ted will be happy about cancelling. Of course, the venue pulled out so i guess they have to pay him. I don't think there's enough beer sales coming out of that population to offset the losses.

"Bud regrets it,"

Just heard one of the execs at Anheuser-Busch said its no big deal. They've only lost 1% of their total beer sales.

Time to make the percentage larger.

Ted's playing here in Beaumont, Tx in August. I saw him here back in the 80's. Put on a good show, starting by swinging off the main speakers on stage with a rope, wearing a fur loin cloth and fur caveman boots.
Same thing in Terre Haute back in the day!
