Just a note that the movies are hosted at archive.org so no embedding is possible, but you can download the movie files or watch them on the website.
The website viewer is similar to watching on youtube. Just click the start arrow once, maybe twice, then expand it to full screne and watch the movie.
Each is higher-quality video.

-------------------------------------------------------

First up is The Grapes of Wrath. This 1940 John Ford classic is based upon the Steinbeck novel about desperate share-croppers from Oklahoma going to California in search of work and life during the 1930's Depression. It has big stars of the era including a young Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell, and John Carradine. This book is worth reading and the movie is good.

- The Joad clan is looking for a better life in California. After their drought-ridden farm is seized by the bank, the family loads up a truck and heads West. On the road, beset by hardships, the Joads meet dozens of other families making the same trek and holding onto the same dream. Once in California, however, the Joads soon realize that the promised land isn't quite what they hoped.

Next up is Mel Gibson in The Patriot. This 2000 Revolutionary War era movie is the extended version at almost 3 hours long.

- What would you do if they destroyed your home, threatened your family. Where would you draw the line?

- Peaceful farmer Benjamin Martin is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution when a sadistic British officer murders his son.

The third feature is Zombieland from 2009. Stars are Jesse Eisenburg, Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Emma Stone, and others. This is a funny, but bloody, zombie flick.

- A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.

Thank you! Downloading the grapes of wrath now. Zombieland is next, it looks like fun.The mp.4 links are a big help too!
Woody Haralson is a great actor; he's the lead in my favorite movie, Natural Born Killers. Great acting job!

On TB every waking moment
I remember that the ambush/tomahawk scene is refreshingly brutal,

Please recall that most colonial participants of the Revolution were veterans of the French and Indian War as well. They were no strangers to brutality, either received or meted out.

1911, you have the knack for posting MUST SEE films. No, of course, my eveningstonight and tomorrow are going to be watching these.

Thanks for bringing these to us. It still feels like a treat to watch any thing. Also, any excuse for sweet tea & popcorn is welcomed.

How neat! I'll be watching"The Grapes of Wrath", tonight......read the book, which made such an impression on me. I hope we won't be facing a similar scenario, with the crop losses and the threat of a recession...or worse.

Thank you, 1911user!

Special thanks for posting the link to The Grapes of Wrath! We homeschool our youngest grandchild and the book is next up on our reading list. Whenever possible if there's also been a film made we like to watch the film and compare/discuss differences and why those differences might have come about (aside from length/complexity of the book). The last one we did was To Kill A Mockingbird and we had to wait on the library to locate a copy of the film.

This is the list so far. I know you asked about last week, but I'd been thinking about compiling a list of past movie postings. Hold your mouse over a link to see the complete link.

Watch Natural born killers-he was a great actor in that movie. Great movie and a good social commentary on making serial killers celebrities.

Ah ok, it's added to the movie section of the official DOOMAGEDDEN ™ book.
...which reminds me I need to find out if "3 days of the condor" is supposed to be on the list.

Lots of homework on this site! (Luckily for me!)

It's just a file download. If you use one of the links at the very bottom of the first post, that will be a mp4 format file that should play on almost any media player. Just do the right-click, "Save Link Target As" on the link you want.

EDIT: on archive.org, the download link I normally select is the one labeled "mp4" or "h264" or "x264". That's almost a guarantee of .mp4 format which would be best for most since it is very commonly used. Sometimes they have an option for "mkv" which is a good, but different, file format and not as common. It requires different viewing software than the common windows media player. I normally use VLC as a media player since it plays almost any format. I use windows media player for audio especially if I want to use SRS sound enhancement.
