It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.

The first movie is Weekend at Bernie's. This 1989 comedy stars Andrew McCarthy, Johnathon Silverman, Catherine Mary Stewart, and Terry Kiser.

Two friends are invited for a weekend to a luxury island with their boss. The boss gets assassinated and nobody seems to notice, except for the two friends. In order not to become suspects of murder they treat the body as a puppet and make people believe he's still alive. The killer wants to do his job so when he is informed that the stiff is still alive he's got to kill him again, and again, and again ...

If you liked the first one, the second movie is Weekend at Bernie's 2. This 1993 comedy stars Andrew McCarthy, Johnathon Silverman, and Terry Kiser.

In a continuation of the story in "Weekend At Bernie's", Larry and Richard are wrongly accused of Bernie's fraud and are promptly sacked. To clear their names, and to get some compensation, the two set out to track down Bernie's hidden loot. Their plan requires Bernie, who's dead - but not as dead as the pair think.

The third movie is Cold in July. This 2014 crime thriller stars Michael Hall, Sam Shepard, and Don Johnson. This is a different film, a good film, and a personal favorite. It's a wicked blend of comedy, strong violence at times, and wondering what will happen next. How Many Men Can One Bullet Kill? is an apt introduction to this film that was well-received at both Sundance and Cannes film festivals.

Cold in July is a Texas neo-noir set in 1989. A man kills an intruder in his home one night. The victim's dad subsequently turns up and starts hassling Dane and his family. The police get involved but things begin to take a turn for the unpredictable when it soon becomes apparent that the dead man isn't who he appears to be. This leads to a spiral of dark, brutal secrets.

The fourth movie is Cahill US Marshall. This 1973 western stars John Wayne, George Kennedy, and Gary Grimes.

J.D. Cahill is the toughest U.S. Marshal they've got, just the sound of his name makes bad guys stop in their tracks, so when his two young boys want to get his attention they decide to rob a bank. They end up getting more than they bargained for.

The fifth movie is Ben Hur. This 1959 drama stars Charlton Heston, Jack Hawkins, Haya Harareet, and Stephen Boyd. This is the one with the chariot race :) and a bunch of academy awards.

- After a Jewish prince is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge.

Judah Ben-Hur lives as a rich Jewish prince and merchant in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 1st century. Together with the new governor, his old friend Messala arrives as commanding officer of the Roman legions. At first they are happy to meet after a long time but their different political views separate them. During the welcome parade, a roof tile falls down from Judah's house and injures the governor. Although Messala knows they are not guilty, he sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. But Judah swears to come back and take revenge.

The sixth movie is Hitman. This 2007 action film is based on the Hitman video game. It stars Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, and Olga Kurylenko. This is an entertaining action film even if you know nothing of the video game. He has lots of cool toys and tricks for the expected high-octane situations. He also carries a pair of very nice 1911 45acp pistols. :)

A gun-for-hire, known only as Agent 47, is hired by a group known as 'The Organization'. He is ensnared in a political conspiracy which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Russia and Eastern Europe. But even 47 couldn't anticipate a "random equation" in his life: the unexpected stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a mysterious Russian woman.

The seventh movie is The Lost Weekend. This 1945 noir-drama stars Ray Milland, Jayne Wyman, Phillip Terry, and Howard Da Silva. This is a classic film about the powerful effects of alcoholism. Ray Milland was a master of his acting craft. He also was the director, lead actor, etc. for the 1963 atomic classic Panic in Year Zero. This film won 4 oscars and many other awards.

Writer Don Birnam is on the wagon. Sober for only a few days, Don is supposed to be spending the weekend with his brother, Wick, but, eager for a drink, Don convinces his girlfriend to take Wick to a show. Don, meanwhile, heads to his local bar and misses the train out of town. After recounting to the bartender how he developed a drinking problem, Don goes on a weekend-long bender that just might prove to be his last.
